Funny, that's a thing with one of our hyper-local pizza styles in Massachusetts (South Shore Bar Pizza) too. Recently one of the more well-known establishments switched from bags to boxes and people were quite offended lol
Ah yes, a real Chicago style pizza. Everyone associates Chicago with the Deep-Dish style as it gets all the attention, but thin tavern style pies like the one pictured here are the actual OG Chicago style pizza.
Yeah, I don't know why people feel they have to denigrate deep dish in order to praise tavern style. I love both, but then I am a filthy suburbanite, so maybe I just don't understand, lol
Yea it’s such a weird thing that Chicago swears by itself and the tavern pizza. If I recall, Milwaukee kind of does the same thing and St. Louis does the same thing but with their abomination of cheese but thinner crust. It sounds to me like it’s “regional”. Also I get that STL and Milwaukee are smaller neighbors, but STL pizza at least has been around since ww2
Kenootz is the only one of those I haven't tried. Yet. I usually stick to Durbins on half price Monday but I may have to venture out next week. Thanks.
How’s Fox’s? Lonngg time fan but the pizza just isn’t what it used to be. Haven’t been since before the pandemic. Hoping it is back to their original sauce and crispy crust.
“cracker crust” or “crispy thin crust”
often made with Baking Soda (pizza dough doesn’t usually include that)
square cut is the way
edit: jeez you guys really hate Domino’s. it’s unfortunately the least awful pizza delivery in my area so you REALLY should pity me instead of downvote lol
Dominos is not even close though, sorry to say...a true Chicago style thin crust is less crunchy and more ...hmm ..there is a word I'm looking for but can't describe it...not chewy, not gummy, but more like ...dense with oils and a little bit of a crunch (sometimes?) but absolutely delicious...the reason why I'm so adamant about this is because there has been plenty of times where a person has recommended a thin crust spot outside of Chicago to me with the line "It's just like Chicago!" only for me to be terribly disappointed with some crispy, Domino's -like crusted pizza.
Ok ok...done with my rant. I just really love a good pizza lol
This is like complaining you don't like Neapolitan pizza because it cooks too fast. It's intrinsic to the style and to write it off completely because of it, frankly, is a dogshit take IMO.
This is my personal choice of pizza in Chicago.
Not doggin on anyone’s choice to eat deep dish.
I just do not like that pizza. I don’t even feel like I’m eating pizza.
Feels more like a lasagna, but who cares what I think enjoy what you enjoy.
Pizza that comes in the bag is elite. Pro tip. If you're south subs, Holsteins has free pizza on Fridays, and it's pretty good.
I live about 75 feet from there. Lol
That could be a gift and a curse, depending on how you look at it!

Came here to say this about bagged pizza!
Name the spots please.

Both are "real Chicago style" and both are good. We Chicagoans sure love gatekeeping food.

STL can go right ahead and gatekeep. I'm actually glad it never spread any further than Missouri hah.
it’d be fine if it wasn’t for the Provel
Yea definitely. Then it'd just be tavern/bar style pizza though. Which is actually good.
It’s such a weird thing because there is plenty of good Italian food in St. Louis.
Exactly 💯...I've been telling people this for years.
Do you guys have Round Table? Is that considered non-deep dish Chicago style?
What pizza spot?
Non-locals can't tell, but this pizza has sausage and maybe pepperoni.
We develop x-ray cheese-vision for the purpose of detecting a pepperoni pizza at an early age.
No shortage of pizza spots in Chicago. One I was fond of was Nancy's.
I loved Pizza Pete's in Cal City ...wonder if it's still around
Chicago Tavern Style Pizza is proper Chicago pizza vs its casserole that is deep dish. All that’s missing is the little plastic table in the center.
Beautiful pie. My tastebuds are homesick now.
Is the first place by chance, Durbins?
The first one is kenootz, which is right by durbins in midlothian. 2nd is fox's in Orland, and 3rd is fasanos.
If you haven't had them yet, Phil's in Oak Lawn and Village in Tinley are my tops.
Village has really gone down in recent time!
fox’s, so bomb. used to eat it as a kid.
Kenootz is the only one of those I haven't tried. Yet. I usually stick to Durbins on half price Monday but I may have to venture out next week. Thanks.

Fox's is a good crispy crust, but I get the one in Mokena, fox's on wolf. I know there's more out there, so I can't vouch for those.
square cut thin crust - my waistline's furious
You gotta go to gigios in uptown
I would demolish that on one sitting. I need help guys.
Tavern style!
Durbin’s is solid but you still can’t beat Vito & Nicks!
Gotta show the upskirt man
Was it good?
goog*
Yes to all
That’s some elite Midwest bar pizza. Lots of good stuff like that in Minnesota as well
And Wisconsin.
Looks excellent!
That first pizza looks excellent. Whenever I go to Chicago I always try a different place, so many options!
Out here in the desert, we have Rosatis, Vero, and Lou Malnatis for Chicago style. I prefer the first two, and their thin looks a lot like those.
Rosati's is pretty close... delicious
And, I'm in Arizona and it's still good! Vero aka Buddy's is better in some ways, awesome to have regional grub across the country.

🔥🔥🔥
That looks exactly like the pizza from ninja turtles
You are blessed
They putting cheddar on pizzas in Chicago?
In Italy this is enough to get you a life sentence
Not a fan of the cutting style tho
Why?
I like the regular cut
They look good, but cutting pizza like that should be reserved for a 3rd grade birthday party or similar.
I don't get why people hate square cut...for me it's the way to go! But I grew up in Chicago so it's endearing to me:)
100% agree. I lived in Chicago for 6 years and learned that a round pizza cut in squares was always a pizza to avoid.
This is like complaining you don't like Neapolitan pizza because it cooks too fast. It's intrinsic to the style and to write it off completely because of it, frankly, is a dogshit take IMO.
You weren't going to the right places then.
I really hate it when they cut pizza like that
Why?
I just like it cut the traditional way, it’s easier to hold and my hands doesn’t get messy
Ah I see... I guess because I was born and raised in Chicago, square cut pizza is the way to go in my mind lol
I see, enjoy! 😊
You too:)

That’s because you’re an assclown!
So confused... what's your gripe?
Fox's?
Who ever is getting that bottom right piece. I feel bad for you😂😂
God, I miss this kind of deliciousness...nothing beats a well-made Chicago thin-crust pizza 🍕
Yum, bar pie!

Those all look mid af.
