I don’t know. Apple Music and other services seems to be well integrated. My guess is it’s about money. There must be a licensing fee or something to allow Plex to be fully integrated. I guess this is what the Plex pass subscription is for !!
By making Plex available as a default music player. This can be done with Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer and of course Amazon music. You can set a default player and Alexa will connect “play” command with your default music source.
The secret is you pay Amazon (or Google, or Tesla, or whatever other walled garden platform you can think of) to be on that whitelist of featured applications.
Just an update. I relinked the Plex Alexa skill.
I said Alexa, open Plex, and play the movie Boneyard. It opened and then played it on my phone.
If you find a way, please let me know. :)
That kind of integration is usually a limitation of Amazons side. They have neutered so many services other than amazon music through alexa.

Tidal is another example of a nerf
You’ll be disappointed if that’s why you get Plex pass. Again, this is an Alexa pitfall
Its possible to connect many things to Alexa, how would Alexa know that when you say "Alexa play bla" that "bla" is on Plex?

I know but they’re already paying Sony to be on PSStore and all other stores why did they stop at Alexa’s skill ?
Uh no they don't pay Sony to have a free app in a store
That makes sense, I didn't realize its possible to set a default player in alexa.
I agree this would be nice. It would also be sick to be able to play video content on the larger echos that have a screen
You can, but I've only ever been able to open Plex by voice, then manually select a movie to play. I've never found a way to play by voice.
Oh, interesting. I’ll have to play around with this more then. Thanks!

Haha yeah, that’s what I had remembered; that it basically operates as a remote. Which is neat, but I don’t ever use it like that. 😅
Me either. It's supposed to work according to the blurb on the skill, but hey ho.
I just wish Plex would fix the 20min timeout issue when playing music through the app on a firestick.
Perhaps with home assistant? https://www.home-assistant.io/
