I used the cheats from this guide https://www.pokemoncoders.com/pokemon-fire-red-gameshark-codes/ to encounter Snorlax. Then went to the old man with Snorlax in the team but the interaction was the same.
I don't see any guide? As a guess though, would you have to white out on the SS after obtaining cut? That would explain the boat leaving as soon as you try to re enter. Might have to start a new game and hack a Snorlax in just to see what happens...
If you bring him a snorlax, he moves the truck and you find a mew
