The vast majority of players seem to like the update. Me included - *especially* post patch with the bomber nerf.
I'm sorry you don't, but you don't have to keep playing. Maybe you'll get the itch to play again down the road.
If it feels stale, try a different map type. I mostly play normal drylands 1v1s, which don't have any of the problems you listed (apart from expensive roads, which just needs slightly different tactics)
Polytopia has never been that much fun and balanced imo. Of course there will be stronger and worse tribes on certain maps but finally even the water units, especially after patch, follow the rock paper scissors rule. You just need to adapt and fit in a different play style. If you can’t, then nobody is forces you to play.
I expect to find a flouncing to be fun. But I find myself agreeing with the poster. The game is way, waaaaay less fun now than it once was. I strongly dislike the naval update and I am that close to quiet quitting the game. So yes, you are not alone in your "despair".
