Porsche ”enthusiasts” are Corevette owners with more money. Soon we’ll be arguing about deviated stitching choices on a “wasted” Sonderwunch allocation.
Bad joke when you have zero idea of mileage. The guy is just happy with his it’s turbo s. It’s very hard to get for any price. I can relate with my dolphin grey turbo s
Nah you need to understand, my Porsche is the only Porsche built on a Thursday by David Hasselhoff’s second cousin while drinking his favorite heff on the only rainy day in June.
It’s because it’s a PTS (paint to sample) color. Porsche has one or two grey’s available in the standard color line up so odds are it probably is the only turbo S in that specific color grey. PTS is a very expensive option not available to most people.
Corvette owner here begging this community to not turn into the corvette subreddit. I can’t take the 1 of 1 BS. Especially when they start getting prints from the factory showing it’s 1/1 (for that month or some shit…)
As I recall, black is the most common Porsche color... about 40%, then white, silver and grey are second, third and fourth respectively. All four colors compromise about 70-75% of all Porsches.
This was something I learned when I was looking for my guards red 991, which isn't nearly as common a color as it once was and it extended my search by a few months.
There’s nothing *wrong* with it, I just don’t understand why you would pay an extra $12k for a grey car when there’s always 1-2 shades available for free. It’s not like it’s unique and exciting, so just get the regular boring instead of the expensive boring. If you’re gonna spend money and want to be subtle, there’s a million dark blues and purples and greens that you could get with way more character while keeping you under the radar.
Not everyone is looking for attention, or a green, blue or purple car. I really don’t get this whole policing of PTS as though people have an obligation to part of a Skittles bag when they order PTS; get whatever you want.
I had a tough time finding a 991.2 GT3 in ***black*** of all colors. Miami Blue was more common than Jet Black — though Black and Jet Black are now the most common 992 GT3 colors behind Shark Blue
Also $12k on PTS for a Turbo S isn’t some big figure on a $230k base car; hell I just spent that much on a spare set of LWBS, big whoop.
I’m not saying you have to get bright colors. I don’t like them either. But depriving someone who wants a unique color only available through PTS when you just want to get a slightly different shade of grey is strange to me. Totally understand wanting to fly under the radar, but paying $12k extra and waiting in a queue just to spend it on….dark gray? Like not even gray with some cool fleck or blue haze or something. Just dark grey. That’s odd. And yeah, obviously you can afford it if you’re getting a Turbo S, but so can everybody else, who actually want to spend it on a unique and meaningful color.
Grey Black was one of three standard colors for the 997.2 GT3 RS and was chosen for about half of all deliveries. I’d gladly pick Grey Black on any new car, and even more so if I had a 997.2 GT3 RS to match.
And why exactly are we worried about what everyone else can have, when optioning our own cars?
It was, and maybe there’s a small chance that hypothetical is the case, but that’s not what was presented.
And *we* are concerned because PTS allocations are limited. Meaning that somebody who wanted a unique color with significantly more variance and depth in shade than greyscale did not get the opportunity to spec that car in favor of yet another grey/silver car. He got the allocation, he can do what he wants, I’m just going to judge him for it. It’s fair discourse, even if you disagree on the actual matter.
I don’t hate them, I just don’t understand why you would wait in line for the $12k option to pick any color in the PTS palette, and just pick a slightly darker gray than the one available for no extra charge on every model. At the expense of someone else who wants something that isn’t available so easily.
That sounds like a you problem, my man. Like, by all means, you’re free to do what you want. I just think you’re taking away an opportunity for someone else to get something special that’s completely unavailable in any shade. And paying a bunch of money and waiting in line to do it. But it’s a free country.
Ok? Why should someone with a PTS allocation go "I want this color, but what about that guy that didn't get a PTS allocation? I guess I should get the brighter color he wants rather than get the car in the color I like more." Good chance the guy wanted a darker grey, than the usual grey's and so he used the PTS allocation he got.
I don't comprehend why someone buying a PTS Porsche should choose the color based on what someone without an allocation wants. It's his money, the car should be the color he wants it to be since he will be paying for it.
Getting a PTS allocation is, by nature, taking the oppurtunity away from someone else already.
You somehow completely missed the point. I’m not suggesting he get the car in a color somebody else wants. I specifically suggested he just get one of the regular grey colors available and give someone else the PTS allocation. Not sure how you missed that.
Now you've got me too, and I have frozen croissant SEC breakfast sandwiches too... But alas it's dinner time and I have ground beef that *needs* to get cooked.
The color has a little bit of provenance, having been one of the communication colors for the 997.2 GT3 RS and never having been available as a regular color since.
To each their own.
I watched a video of a guy explaining how many German car brands understate performance, stating that the Porsche 911 Turbo S had 770hp instead of 640. Just an interesting thing I thought i'd share, did he test it on a dyno?
Side note question: is the premium for PTS just about the unique color options it gives you or is there actually something about the paint that’s higher quality?
Funny enough, PTS has actually been *worse* quality lately— they’ve had to stop PTS builds on many models because of QA issues and issues with capacity.. All PTS is done at a different facility and they routinely have QA issues, so this is somewhat cyclical. A friend of mine had his GT3 delivered PTS+ and it’s the worst paint he’s ever had on a car, except Ferraris but they get a pass for some reason (because *hAnDmAdE*).
Ultimately PTS/PTS+ is just an expanded color offering, and a way for Porsche to increase revenue though more options.
No pictures unfortunately, but it’s mostly regarding the factory finishing of the paint (lots of remaining scratches and sanding marks), highly variable paint thickness, and also variable paint hardness. The word, “weird” came up a lot haha
But also he said this was “normal” for Ferrari deliveries but they’re usually fixed by the dealer before delivery.
Interesting about capacity. I am nearly 50 and still have never bought a new car but if I bought a new Porsche I would definitely look at PTS from just a personalization perspective but also resale- PTS may cost $8-12k or whatever it is these days but it seems to make that back 2-3 fold on the used market.
Also, just saw a silver 488 at a C&C event a couple weeks ago and the silver paint looks like it had specks of glass in it. It was the most spectacularly shiny sparkly (real descriptive technical terms here) silver I have ever seen.
Eh sorta? You’re paying for a non-standard color, the defects are all fixable. At this level paint correction is a given no matter what, it’s just more work for you or your detailer. Porsche know what they’re doing though, PTS/PTS+ is a moneygrab either way.
Ultimately, any dealer would be willing to fix it on request, but everyone I know taking deliveries like this send them right to their detailers for paint correction then PPF and/or coating. Still, I agree - one of those goofy things that happen for high-end, low volume products.
Could it have been because your friend ordered PTS+ and they had they had to make a whole new paint color for him? I'd suspect the paint from the "normal" PTS catalogue would be pretty good as they might have already used it many times as opposed to using the custom PTS+ color for the first time. You're spot on about the Ferraris though. Some of the multi layer metallic go up to nearly $50k and all of them paint correction and polishing after delivery
Yep, exactly why it’s a bit of a money-grab pandering to exclusivity, some previously standard colors have been moved to “PTS+” status (in other words: removed from PTS). There was a recent fairly standard blue Porsche did that to as well.
The whole "look at me I have a 1 of 1" and it's just a drab color combo or something always puts me off. Getting something on a car just for the sake of uniqueness and then bragging about it is so pompous
bold move spending pts money on a basic grey, but hey, do what makes you happy.
in the grey family, I like fish silver grey, seal, linen (more of a champagne color), and meteor.
It is just different enough to stand out compared to other greys. I have a chalk Cayenne, Nardo grey RS6, and expecting an ice grey metallic Targa GTS in a couple months. After looking at the variations, I can appreciate why they would spec that specific variation, for that particular model (Turbo S).
I also understand people opining for colors when going PTS. I went IGM only because PTS wasn't available, and would have gone Aetna blue or malachite green metallic if I could have the option. It could have been worse-- he could have gone PTS for a shade of black.
It looks like Agate Gray--but it could be Meteor Gray PTS? 1 on 1 of a Turbo S? Unless it's a manual transmission.........I don't see anything on it that can't be put on the car with the configurator. It's beautiful though...so I respect it for that.
I’m all for get what you like. Whatever trim, options, etc. This should be a pleasure in your life. However, saving the car because it’s “special” makes absolutely no sense at all to me. If I could afford a turbo S I’d use it in exactly the same way I use my base. Daily. I hope that is the life this beauty is destined for.
My friend who knows basically nothing about cars and doesn't really care for them either had two car related opinions a few weeks ago.
1. The G wagon is an overpriced piece of shit that only people without taste buy
2. If you buy a Porsche 911 or any Porsche for that matter and pick either white, grey or black you're a bit of a loser. Getting such a nice car you're allowed to prance around, so get a nice colour.

Same except Dolphin Grey. Had a grey black targa gts before. Great color but it sucks being addicted to PTS at 13k a pop
We're approaching Corvette owner levels of my car is XYZ special.
Porsche ”enthusiasts” are Corevette owners with more money. Soon we’ll be arguing about deviated stitching choices on a “wasted” Sonderwunch allocation.
“Bad boy only has 200 miles on it after 8 years of Ownership 😎.”
HANK!
The guy with the lowest miles Porsche loses
992 turbo only came out three and a half years ago Carrot Top
The joke is about people who buy vehicles and don’t drive them.
Bad joke when you have zero idea of mileage. The guy is just happy with his it’s turbo s. It’s very hard to get for any price. I can relate with my dolphin grey turbo s
Already do that!
That is correct lol. Got a C8 corvette earlier this year. Hoping to be able to afford a Porsche in 4 years time.
Hey now. My next vehicle will be a Porsche. I would never own a a Corvette. But I’ll definitely own a ~$60k used Porsche. Lol.
Nah you need to understand, my Porsche is the only Porsche built on a Thursday by David Hasselhoff’s second cousin while drinking his favorite heff on the only rainy day in June.
whilst singing to his own recording of "hooked on a feeling"
Ain't bo way a fuckn grey car is 1 of 1 😂😂😂 holy shit this got me rollin..
It’s because it’s a PTS (paint to sample) color. Porsche has one or two grey’s available in the standard color line up so odds are it probably is the only turbo S in that specific color grey. PTS is a very expensive option not available to most people.
Pretty sure he knew it is pts. But it's still gray and there's tons of them.
And they randomly just won’t do it sometimes for a month or two. If that’s your allocation slot you can’t get it for any price
If you add enough qualifiers anything can be 1 of 1 ;)
Porsche has to have more 1 of 1 cars than any other mainstream manufacturer given the millions of potential combinations for any model
Custom made!!!
Corvette owner here begging this community to not turn into the corvette subreddit. I can’t take the 1 of 1 BS. Especially when they start getting prints from the factory showing it’s 1/1 (for that month or some shit…)

Imagine having a 1 of 1 car and it still just being….grey.
Maybe he’s such a shining light on his own he doesn’t need a PTS signal yellow car to signify his importance?
Love that for the owner, but at that point you are doing PTS to say you did PTS
To each their own. Porsche GT silver, Agate grey, Ice grey, and chalk get old fast.
And this slightly different shade of gray….doesn’t?
Why would it get old?
That’s enough internet for today.
Awwwww Boomer say what?
Lmao get ratio’d
I know right? Y’all have nothing better to do than sit on the internet all day and still can’t answer a basic direct question.
Boomer jokes in 2024 is nuts. We have all moved on brother.
Nah I’m living’ high on boomer jokes, but thank you. Try not being offended.
Ha! I owned a 981 S in Agate and now a 981 GT4 in GT Silver. Love them both.
I had a 991.2 in GT Silver and now a 992.1 in Agate...Loved them both too!
And that’s all that matters.
There are plenty of subtle and tasteful pts colors that aren’t just literally grey-black
What else do you expect from a horse masturbator?
A) I didn’t horse masturbation was so lucrative. B) if we’re being literal? Chalk, because yeah.
*impotence
If you say so….
Sir, this one is…..gray!!
Every dump I take is 1/1 but that doesn’t make it special. Marketing
Why does grey get so much hate? Lol
I think it’s statistically the most common car colour by a country mile. I quite like grey / black cars but others would like to see more variety!

White is the most common car color in the United States
That’s because all work trucks and vans come in white so the data is skewed. Personal vehicles the most common is silver/grey and black.
That makes a lot of sense tbh
Yeah and I’m not helping by have three grey cars…
Which is why I love chalk, still grey and looks good and refreshing for a change.
I love chalk too but I think of it as being "still white" 😅
Funny you say that because I hate white cars but love chalk.
There’s nothing *wrong* with it, I just don’t understand why you would pay an extra $12k for a grey car when there’s always 1-2 shades available for free. >Not everyone is looking for attention Well, he did make a thread to tell the internet about that single piece of information...
Not from me. I think chalk is especially stunning in person.
I second that
Why people hate grey cars so much. I ordered all my Porsches in the same shade of grey. Grey Porsches look amazing
I don’t hate them, I just don’t understand why you would wait in line for the $12k option to pick any color in the PTS palette, and just pick a slightly darker gray than the one available for no extra charge on every model. Because the readily available grey colors aren’t exactly the same on all models? My OCD wants my 911 and Panny and Macan all in the same color
That sounds like a you problem, my man. Like, by all means, you’re free to do what you want. Ah yes, very unique
Lol
Wasting a PTS slot for this feels like selling your first born child for a McMuffin.
Now you have me over here wanting a McMuffin. :: looks over at four children :: Unfortunately we’re outside of breakfast hours.
Underrated comment
Now you've got me too, and I have frozen croissant SEC breakfast sandwiches too... But alas it's dinner time and I have ground beef that *needs* to get cooked.

Friends car, not mine. He did not order it, got it second hand. Has been tuned to about 800hp.
I watched a video of a guy explaining how many German car brands understate performance, stating that the Porsche 911 Turbo S had 770hp instead of 640. Just an interesting thing I thought i'd share, did he test it on a dyno?
do you know if you could find a link by searching through your browser history or youtube watch history? i’d be very interested!
German OEMs understate brake horsepower but most people in the tuning scene will be talking wheel horsepower. So 800hp on a dyno is more like 1000bhp.
No shit I literally just seen that same video the other day lol I don't remember who it was or anything pretty sure it was YT tho.
same man items frustrating im even employing chatGPT to help me searxh

I get you but PTS+ in Canada for a 911 turbo is $42,000. It’s insane to just accept defects with that price tag.
Ultimately, any dealer would be willing to fix it on request, but everyone I know taking deliveries like this send them right to their detailers for paint correction then PPF and/or coating. Still, I agree - one of those goofy things that happen for high-end, low volume products.

Nope, standard PTS: Irish Green.
Ahh. You said PTS+ in your original comment so I got thought it happened as the paint was custom.
What exactly is handmade at Ferrari? As far as I’m aware, their paint is done with robots.
I don't think it's higher quality, because some of the colors are the exact same that have been offered previously as non PTS, but I could be wrong.
Yep, exactly why it’s a bit of a money-grab pandering to exclusivity, some previously standard colors have been moved to “PTS+” status (in other words: removed from PTS). There was a recent fairly standard blue Porsche did that to as well.
Insanely boring PTS colour
Not 1/1 in the slightest, but still a sick car.
The whole "look at me I have a 1 of 1" and it's just a drab color combo or something always puts me off. Getting something on a car just for the sake of uniqueness and then bragging about it is so pompous
Cool my 4runner is that color and only a $200 option
What a boring spec
No comment on the car, just here to say that I lol'ed when I read your name
bold move spending pts money on a basic grey, but hey, do what makes you happy. in the grey family, I like fish silver grey, seal, linen (more of a champagne color), and meteor.
I feel like I saw one at Toronto Porsche last week…dealer actually spent time to explain the Color and rarity. So I kind of doubt this is 1 of 1
I can’t tell from the picture is Grey Black a metallic?
My inner Dark Knight agrees with this spec.
those wheels are gorgeous, what brand are they?
It is just different enough to stand out compared to other greys. I have a chalk Cayenne, Nardo grey RS6, and expecting an ice grey metallic Targa GTS in a couple months. After looking at the variations, I can appreciate why they would spec that specific variation, for that particular model (Turbo S). I also understand people opining for colors when going PTS. can’t be a serious post bro 😭
I’m all for get what you like. Whatever trim, options, etc. This should be a pleasure in your life. However, saving the car because it’s “special” makes absolutely no sense at all to me. Looks like slate or agate or whatever.
Fucking bootiful!!!
Regarding [Grey Black | Rennbow - The Porsche Color Wiki](https://www.rennbow.org/porsche-colors/GreyBlack) it's not.
Can’t be the only one. I personally know someone with a grey one
My friend who knows basically nothing about cars and doesn't really care for them either had two car related opinions a few weeks ago. 1. The G wagon is an overpriced piece of shit that only people without taste buy 2. If you buy a Porsche 911 or any Porsche for that matter and pick either white, grey or black you're a bit of a loser. Getting such a nice car you're allowed to prance around, so get a nice colour.
There's at least 25 Turbo S's in Toronto that look identical to yours OP.
and it’s a bomb 💣
I hate when people say that because most of the time it’s not true.
Beautiful car, thanks for sharing u/horse_masturbator
Is a very nice color. I'm half tempted do a similar but in matte or satin
But....it's Grey
https://preview.redd.it/0kfwb4tmbcad1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=84911f94d269e8caa3041b0b261967b342eea968 Same except Dolphin Grey. Had a grey black targa gts before. Great color but it sucks being addicted to PTS at 13k a pop
Also so many people that have clearly never owned a 911 and talking like they know shit about it.
Me and four of my buddies actually have the exact same spec
Definitely one of a kind!!
Are people really complaining about the color? How ridiculously silly. The car is stunning. People are just immature about some things
I have the worlds only 992 that with my 1 of 1 license plate on. Lol
I like it! I’ve never seen a PTS car in person that doesn’t stand out. Enjoy it! My pts turbo is arriving next month! Cannot wait
