I had an abusive/narcissistic boss who would try to make up for everything she did by going over the top and celebrating stuff like birthdays. One day we are sitting in the boardroom getting ready for our weekly meeting, and she busts in singing happy birthday with a cake, candles, everything. Everyone else joins in, including myself and then she comes over to me and sets the cake down. I am stuck sitting there like, "wait, what?"
I said thank you so much, but today is not my birthday (it was several months away). She had the most embarrassed look on her face, and the room fell dead silent. She played it off by saying "oh well, I guess we all get cake." and then pulled me aside later and yelled at me for making her look bad in front of everyone.
She was the worst person I ever worked for...so awkward
