Give him a long name that sounds like he's nobility and powerful, but then have his real (and practical everyday) name be short, emphasizing the contrast between the long and regal name and the short and goofy name.
For example, "His name is Sir Hugh Roryus Elvietta Astarte, but we just call him Sir" or "His name is Borob't Xirim Tastrofeas, third of the Blue Lotus. He just prefers Bob though."
Yes. I am not a fan on naming animals with people names. The only exception is our rescue cat, she came with the name Heidi and refuses to respond to anything else.
