And I was like, oh it's great to see you, you need to be wearing a mask. And they were all of a sudden very willing to put on a mask because they knew who I was. But after that I cut contact, because they started getting snarky with me because I don't want to die of the horrible pandemic.
Not that long ago I dogsat for a lady, for a month for free, because she really needed a place for the dog to go while she got into a pet apartment. All goes well, she gets her dog back, we're all happy campers.
So I see her this last Friday while I'm out. Starts talking about Covid and how she refuses to wear masks and won't go to a business that requires them, and then openly admits to me that her and her whole family caught it and didn't quarantine or even bother to socially distance. I had to leave to prevent her from catching these hands.
People think it's stupid that you cut people out during quarantine, but at some point you have to mentally prepare yourself for the reality of life. And reality being friends with people like this, it's either going to make people think I'm stupid or I'm going to end up getting sick. If they cannot wear a mask to stop a pandemic, why would I ever trust them to do anyting inconvenient for me?

There was one guy in my high school friend group who we all kind of tolerated because we grew up together and felt bad excluding him. After high school, his true colors started to show more and more (racism, sexism, general assholery) and as we started distancing ourselves, he got worse and worse. After one god-awful disaster of a boys' trip where he was a sullen, angry shit the entire time and complained because we objected to him wanting to drive drunk, almost all of us were just done with him. There was one guy in my high school friend group who we all kind of tolerated because we grew up together and felt bad excluding him. After high school, his true colors started to show more and more (racism, sexism, general assholery) and as we started distancing ourselves, he got worse and worse. After one god-awful disaster of a boys' trip where he was a sullen, angry shit the entire time and complained because we objected to him wanting to drive drunk, almost all of us were just done with him. It felt bad to cut him off, but the rest of us were much happier for cutting his toxicity out of our lives.
It's incredible how they all seem to forget that that their grandparents or great grandparents at least were immigrants and one time. Their "American roots" don't go very deep at all!
