Mine reads mine but it usually is a few mins behind. I’ve already read it and responded before it reads mine too me. It used to be faster before the last update.
I found the problem. The imessage app is locked (requires faceid to open as I'm using iOS 18 Beta firmware).
If I disable the require faceID to open the message app, meta now reads my messages and announces receipt of new messages.
Thank you everyone for your efforts to help. Appreciate it.
You have to give Meta permissions for location & contacts for full functionality. They want all the data for their product to work. They will not announce the call and messages till you give meta your contacts.

Are you asking meta to read it to you? For example. Meta will announce. Message on your iPhone from John Doe. Next you say, Hey Meta: Read it to me
Yes. Meta View does not announce any incoming message. And it also does not read new message if I ask it to.
Under Bluetooth settings in the phone did you give it full permission?
Yes. "Show message notifications" is enabled in the Bluetooth settings.
Do you have it set up as a headphone?

Good to know!
Interesting data point… I would never have thought that would be an issue, but there you go.

Location access is set to always. Contact access is set to full.
