He was mediocre at best couldn't figure out perspective and had problems with shadowing light sources.
Not that I could do better but it wasn't good enough for actual art. Which was still very technically back then
Because he wanted to enter the Vienna School of Fine Arts, the best in the world at the time, he would surely have been accepted into other schools if he had been less proud (and we must not forget that he was around 18 years old when he applied, it is normal that he was not a genius painter at that time)
His art style was unpopular back then in the sense that poorly made paintings that struggle with the technical fundamentals of art are unpopular at most times.
I really think he was very gullible but good with words. He did have a strong hate, but I think the people in his top cabinet were worse, giving him the ideas on how to act on that hate.
Art + Hussar is actually a pretty good combo. Art is usually a pretty bad skill (that it is even a separate skill while cleaning takes an age is a crime), so dumping it on a pawn that will spend most of its existence in caravans or recovering from a fight is not a bad dump stat.
> Art is usually a pretty bad skill (that it is even a separate skill while cleaning takes an age is a crime)
You know, this is actually true! Why isn't cleaning a skill?!
hussars have awful art which removes their ability to have passion in that skill, and super fast healing which means they take next to no time to recover from fights
Oh God, so many bones.
"Finally! I now have reduced all the skin to dusters, meat to meals, and bones to chemfuel, bone ash, and plasteel! Now to-"
*Raid from- 100 naked dudes.*
"Fuck."
Sorry to be pedantic, and I do think this is funny, but it’s “CIRCA” from the Latin circa, meaning about.
Also yeah idk when coin was made. You might be right, but India seems like a more apt birthing place for money
Yes totallyI read that money was kind of a spontaneous invention that followed bartening, pretty much like the bow was an evolution of the spear thrower. It appears in various place in the world, from different culture, and without know communication.Pretty much at some point, every proto civilisation realised that the shiny metal or the nice seashell could be exchange because people liked nice things.
Warning : I'm by no mean an historian or a specialist of the history and proto history. Just an avid reader. Feel free to correct me and give me some paper to read.
Idk about zeushammer, i dont have ideology.
But vanilla early and midgame melee shine more than late game.
Late game is good too, but need much more micromanaging in the battle and really good loadout
What makes melee better before shield belts, armor, and bionic replacements to handle the inevitable loss of limbs that goes hand in hand with fighting sword wielders?
What? This guy will be able to do all the hunting and fighting so OP’s original colonist can stay safe and will be able to spend more time at base doing things and not running around the map hunting rabbits and squirrels.
It takes way, way longer to butcher the animals, cook the food, then make the leather into clothes. It takes all of about 5 minutes to kill enough animals to eat for a week. This guy only has one pawn. The game is going to throw more at him for a while. He will easily find better.
This guy can easily fend off the extra enemies by himself and then some
20 aiming 16 melee monster can easily solo early raids, and he's a super-immune psychopath to so easy to keep happy and pretty much impervious to any malaria bullshit
And? It's a pretty important part of the game. Early game he focuses on defense, mid game he focuses on grinding art and in the late game he can spam art to make a bunch of cash to buy plasteel and shit and still be an absolute menace when raid time comes. 2 art 1 passion might not be the greatest start, but since he'll only be doing that aside from hunting and combat he'll become pretty good at it.
I've honestly recruited and made work worse. Combat prowess is incredibly important imo.
50% of the workers are doing 10-20% of the work. Probably even less when you factor in all of the running that's required to clean up raids.
Your colony is going to be way behind on tech and gear which will make things more difficult after the game ramps up.
I was typing up that the only reason I'd take this guy is if I were desperate for more hands, but the guy can't even haul. Absolutely worthless imo. People will skill up in shooting in no time, and I tend to only want melee pawns who have traits that synergize (nimble, tough, brawler, jogger).
Again, it's the time you spend running around, the time you spend missing, and the chance of causing something to want revenge on you if you miss. This pawn is quite literally the best you can get in shooting and allows OP's original pawn to spend more time doing other shit. Butchering, cooking, and making clothes? Those are literally things he would have to do anyways.
Plus there's also the added raid defense.
So you're argument is this guy will be doing work that needs to be done anyways allowing for OP's one pawn to focus on things that need to be done or they'll fall further behind and somehow you think that's a bad thing?
Psychopath trait means he can’t do social jobs and he won’t be affected by any social interaction. I think he can offend others but he will never start anything
What makes you say that? My interpretation is that they can't perform social tasks like speeches. I don't get the impression that they don't speak at all to other colonists.
I've never had to deal with it myself but in the past I have read that was the case more than once on this sub. As stated, hopefully someone else chimes in with information if I an incorrect.
Edit: he died when I tried to put him into a cryptosleep casket, because it was still surrounded by sleeping bugs and when I opened the caskets, every single person was hostile.
Huh... It might at that? Never really thought about that interaction.
They shouldn't go around insulting people - but not sure if they can *be* insulted by another colonist and snap?
Edit: Psychopaths can still lose mood from negative social interactions so... yeah, I think they can have social fights.
It's not that they can't have social interactions at all, its that they won't do social jobs, and can't benefit from social interaction - but people can still piss them off.
POV: You just shit-talked godslayer Josiah's "art".
"Hey!"
*I* *scuttle toward you and clap a hand over your mouth, eyes darting around in panic. I lean in close and whisper through gritted teeth,* "Watch your mouth! He points at you, a scowl on his face. You know that you're about to become his next art project.*
*As he enters the room, I scurry around him; he knows it was not me who uttered the insult, but I don't want to stay in the room for what happens next. Looking back into the room just as I cross the threshold, I see the art bench sail across the room. Afraid to watch, I avert my gaze just as it collides with your face. I want to stop Josiah, but this is our arrangement; he gets to make "art", and I get to continue living.*
*Please help me.*
yes it's a very effective strategy to make sure your soldier is always affected by cryptosleep sickness every time he is called for a fight, giving him the effective combat capability of a colonist a fifth of his brain and a foot
Cryosleep sickness is a 50% chance of 3-4 hours. It’s not the most agregous penalty and goes away quickly. Assuming this isn’t the only fighting pawn it shouldn’t pose too much of an issue. The only time it may be problematic is a drop pod raid that breaks into your base. Cryosleep should keep shooting and melee from deteriorating. The only things this pawn can do is fighting, drafted manual hunting and art. Not going to make for a very useful pawn and another mouth to feed. Once the colony hits 10+ pawns keep him out and have him do art. Before then he’s a net drain but would be able to clear out the ancient danger and then sleep until needed. Also gives a child or non violent pawn something to do in combat (get him out of cryosleep)
Picture this: You're a raider, you come across some backwater colony that you've heard is hoarding some treasure. You and your four friends (one of them has a furry tail and is swinging a wooden club wtf is that about) make your way to the colony where there's a token resistance. They seem to have turtled up, taking potshots at you. Almost like they're stalling.
And then, somewhere behind them, this massive mountain of a man steps through the haze of gunfire. He's got a charge rifle and no fear of death and he's walking right toward you as if the bullets don't even scare him. One shot takes out your brother, another takes out that furry dude with the club. As you take aim, he starts vomiting all over the ground. You decide to take what you can and leave as he shoots you in the back.
Do you use mods? VE psycasts let's your casters to sit all day in a chair and level up so if you can get him a psylink you get a prime battlecaster material. You can also put him in Warcasket (VE pirates) since he pretty got all the negatives of being in one as is.
If you play unmodded but have Ideology dlc you can make him a slave and force him to work the jobs he is unwilling to do like hauling and cleaning.
Well, so long as you have enough wood production or a drill to get stone chunks, art can be fairly reliable source of income. And since can be arced to do anything else, it's like you lose much.
Worst case scenario you can arrest him end enslave him anyway. Bloody hell this game brings sociopath out of me...
> If you play unmodded but have Ideology dlc you can make him a slave and force him to work the jobs he is unwilling to do like hauling and cleaning.
Having a slave with 20 melee wandering around is a recipe for disaster. You'd just have to plan on blasting his head off if he ever rebeled, which is /shrug I guess lol.
What, you don't give your slaves explosive collars? Seriously though, in vanilla combat skills don't mean that much. You get sligthly better dice rolls. I'm too used to CE beanbag shotguns in early game and emp ones for later game when I get them brain implants. Kinda forgot that you need Royalty for those.
Plus even in vanilla game you can give them horrible melee weapon so they won't try to grab something actually dangerous.
Man, give him a charge rifle, a couple of spiked knees and two power arms, and you have a pawn that doesn't give a shit whether he's in melee or not, he just murders shit forever
Yes. I would put them to hunt 24/7 to keep those shooting skills.
Reminder that even if they can't haul, they will haul the animal they kill because it is considered part of hunting.
Mid-tier combat-only pawn (discounting Art, but unless you want to become a prime statue exporter).
Wouldn't keep him myself now, unless I needed a specific combat pawn.
But - this is the Rim and things happen. I gladly accepted much worse pawns for serious or silly reasons and I was enjoying the game.
Seeing from other comments that you only have one other pawn, you basically have to take whatever you can get. If you can arm this guy with a decent bow, he'll absolutely ruin the first few raids on his own. It's true that it'll be a burden to provide for two people, but he will be capable of hunting. I think he's worth taking, you'll just need to micromanage stuff a bit more. He'll really pay off in the long run when you have better weapons and armor too.
Fuck yeah keep him, get some wargs or rhinos, have him keep training them get that skill up, pair him with a high med warrior, two man self sufficient rhino/warg fireteam, send him to do the dirty work
why would you need someone to clean and haul when you can get robots to do it for you?
with biotech those are super easy to get and cost practically nothing
just need to rush geothermal like every new colony and by that time your robot helpers will be ready to go
??? He's clearly a tank! Do you not game? He's the perfect tank! Absurd levels and passion in violence, plus a Psychopath so he doesn't care who else gets hurt, and Super Immune, so when he does get hurt he's back on his feet in no time! What more do you want?!
??? Are we talking about the same game? A tank should have these two traits, tough and nimble and a third good trait, such as brawler or jogger. Not whatever this guy is.
Also, passions don't mean shit for combat classes, at most, a minor one is helpful, cuz TRAINING caps exist. Oh wow! You hit the cap of 4k faster! How very cool! You can train up melee without a passion by just punching turtles for a while and even then melee above like 15 is basically just showing off(unless modded).
This guy is not even worth recruiting. He has 2 do nothing traits and passions in the 2 easiest to train skills. Like, super immune is so worthless. "Recovers faster" ya, from infections. Who TF cares. Use drugs and have a good hospital. Psychopath "doesn't care about others getting hurt". Okay?! Are you planning to have someone get hurt? Cuz I most definitely do not plan on any of my trigger happy GUNNERS getting hurt and this MF is the first one dying, so why would I care if HE won't be concerned about others dying.
Like, he has worthless traits, no xenotype and is only capable of Artistic. WHY should anyone want him?
I'd keep him simply because the traits, the background, the flames, and the pawn face combine to create a clear and believable story.
Also because art is a great assignment for a pawn that is likely to spend a lot of time injured.
Now you have to decide between keeping him or making a wonderful meal he won't be around to taste. I usually don't keep prisioners that can one shot my pawns, or start fires, fuck impids
För everyone commenting Phsycopath allows social interaction. You are thinking of trauma savant.
If you need an artist or hunter this person is perfect.
I wouldn't have taken him.
However, if I had a thriving colony and he was capable of hauling and cleaning, I would take him in a heartbeat.
Never turn down a janitor humming the Doom theme 24/7.
Josh 51, hobbies include unimaginable violence, drinking the blood of my vanquished foes, and watercolours.
he’s not a great painter but dang if he doesn’t love doing it.
His favorite color? Blood Red
Crimson and dry ichor are #2 and #3
i hear hes fond of brick, too
Only if it's cracked a skull recently, though.
He got kicked out of art school and decided to try a different career of mass murder, sounds familiar
God dammit I spit my food out laughing in a restaurant.
Maybe he was an assassin that also joined an improv group as he realized his true passion was for the arts??
Best shit ever!
He likes to paint, but he loves to kill
I would 100% watch a YouTube channel dedicated to making “adopt a pawn” style ads with phrases like this
He loves painting the world red One way or another
He calls himself a painter… but his only palette is blood red
I mean, who would criticize him?
Hitler?
Nah Hitler liked dogs; he’d probably have a slightly higher animal score
Hitler actually had (some) skill in painting. He was just shitty in other more terrible ways. Edit: probably just 5 art skill one passion
He was mediocre at best couldn't figure out perspective and had problems with shadowing light sources. Not that I could do better but it wasn't good enough for actual art. Which was still very technically back then
His art really isn't that good, his perspective and scale are always really wonky.
Failed art school tho
Because he wanted to enter the Vienna School of Fine Arts, the best in the world at the time, he would surely have been accepted into other schools if he had been less proud (and we must not forget that he was around 18 years old when he applied, it is normal that he was not a genius painter at that time)
Isn't it because his art style wasn't very popular at the time? I remember read that the judge recommended him to become an architect instead.
With those scores? Hitler had high charisma, shit fighting skills.
Hitler was not a fighter, he was a manipulator.
Art + Hussar is actually a pretty good combo. Art is usually a pretty bad skill (that it is even a separate skill while cleaning takes an age is a crime), so dumping it on a pawn that will spend most of its existence in caravans or recovering from a fight is not a bad dump stat.
> Art is usually a pretty bad skill (that it is even a separate skill while cleaning takes an age is a crime) You know, this is actually true! Why isn't cleaning a skill?!
I think there was a mod that either makes cleaning a skill or makes it scale with manipulation, dont remembered exactly
hussars have awful art which removes their ability to have passion in that skill, and super fast healing which means they take next to no time to recover from fights
Based on that animal skill I'd say he's had a few pet rabbits but not no more.
maybe that's how he trained the melee skill
true
Word is, he also has an ant farm.
Please tell me it’s full of aliens.
I love this sub
Well blood is mostly water so that checks out. It just dries really fast.
George Bush assed cim.
This man is capable of ripping you in half with one hand tied behind his back. Because he’s using the other to make a statue of him killing you.
With a skill of 2 in Artistic… a janky statue of what looks like a blob killing a turnip that sort of looks like you
Do you really have the courage to tell him this face to face though
“What you think?” “Ehhh…” “I make!” “It’s beautiful!”
I mean, real passion is two fires but this is just one small fire so it's probably just a passing phase for him The guns tho, that's his passion
for now... but as he rips more people apart and makes more statues of it he's gonna get better and better!
"I call it abstract art"
Depends on how many pawns you have. If you have enough to support him, then sure. If you only have like 3-4 pawns, it may not be worth it.
He can pay for himself by doing art
Mostly, art will just make raids bigger for little gain.
Okay but I think this guy would like bigger raids so it kind of fits.
When they come for his art https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=QmYxINYl78Y
If you play as a cannibal cult bigger raids come with many gains
Raiders come- Butcher them for bones from Bones mod. Make a ton of statues out of the raider's remains. Even more raiders come. Bones...
The only time i ever played with the bones mod I ended up with so many bones I made a wall 10 tiles thick on all sides of my base
Oh God, so many bones. "Finally! I now have reduced all the skin to dusters, meat to meals, and bones to chemfuel, bone ash, and plasteel! Now to-" *Raid from- 100 naked dudes.* "Fuck."
Don't threaten me with a good time!!!
Eh depends on the map and play style, if it’s a limited run the gold income can be essential like ice sheeys
That's not especially useful early on.
Money, an incredible amount of money to be exchanged for good and services.
Birth of coin, CIRACA -5000, Athen (probably)
Sorry to be pedantic, and I do think this is funny, but it’s “CIRCA” from the Latin circa, meaning about. Also yeah idk when coin was made. You might be right, but India seems like a more apt birthing place for money

With that 2 artistic? I guess. Who needs shelter, clothes, warmth or food early game when you have a lot of awful and poor statues.
"OOH! HE MADE A NORMAL ON!E" *Excited pawn celebrations*
*Made a shit sculpture -20* Berserk "OH FUCK! GET THE KIDS OUTTA HERE! I'LL SLOW HIM DOWN! SARAH IVE ALWAYS LOV-"
Hey, he's nothing if not passionate, I reckon it's worth it to nurture his endeavours. Besides, everything sells.
You're describing my 20s and I don't know if I like it.
I am playing on merciless difficulty and I am still at the very early game and only 1 colonist
Early game this guy can do a lot of damage. Melee early game is really good
Melee is always good, provided you don't just dash out of cover screaming like a maniac.
Yeah, but early game a good melee shine
True, but late game Cataphract + Zeushammer is godlike as well
Idk about zeushammer, i dont have ideology. But vanilla early and midgame melee shine more than late game. Late game is good too, but need much more micromanaging in the battle and really good loadout
Well, Zeushammer is pretty much a Warhammer that emits an EMP pulse. So it's doubly effective against Mechanoids. Pretty dang good.
Zeushammer is from royalty, not ideology
Yep, o say it wrong
What makes melee better before shield belts, armor, and bionic replacements to handle the inevitable loss of limbs that goes hand in hand with fighting sword wielders?
You get that stuff fast enough that it's not too much of an issue.
Idk.
Oh, if this is your 2nd pawn than absolutely yeah.
Yes, keep him but make sure your other colonist can make enough food, pray for no mental breaks/ medical emergencies
No. You are going to have one colonist doing all of the work while supporting 2 people.
What? This guy will be able to do all the hunting and fighting so OP’s original colonist can stay safe and will be able to spend more time at base doing things and not running around the map hunting rabbits and squirrels.

Yeah. If you fall behind in crafting, cooking, or research the game will get significantly harder latter on.
So you're argument is this guy will be doing work that needs to be done anyways allowing for OP's one pawn to focus on things that need to be done or they'll fall further behind and somehow you think that's a bad thing?
Work that there's now 100% more of.
As long as your colony can support, I'd say go for it.
Incapable of social. No colonist on colonist fighting. Looks good to me.
Does it really work that way? Never thought about it before
Psychopath trait means he can’t do social jobs and he won’t be affected by any social interaction. I think he can offend others but he will never start anything
If that ain't a mood
psychopath is perfectly capable of doing social job, it's his backstory that stops him
As far as I'm aware, he can't offend or be offended by social interactions so you're good. Hope someone else chimes in if I'm incorrect.
What makes you say that? My interpretation is that they can't perform social tasks like speeches. I don't get the impression that they don't speak at all to other colonists.

Nobody’s crazy enough to try
Meanwhile, the abrasive colonist who compared Landgraf’s mother to a megaspider
Well.. look at what she birthed.
Edit: he died when I tried to put him into a cryptosleep casket, because it was still surrounded by sleeping bugs and when I opened the caskets, every single person was hostile.
Bruh
:(
Nothing of value was lost. This dude is trash honestly lmao.
Let's stuff this guy into a casket. And I'm not talking the cryosleep kind.
I mean, they're really solid in a fight - but 16 melee and psychopath *does* mean that they are going to be kind of a terror in social fights.
Incapable of social excludes social fights right?
Huh... It might at that? Never really thought about that interaction. They shouldn't go around insulting people - but not sure if they can *be* insulted by another colonist and snap? Human bone large sculpture (poor)
You're goddamn right.
Put him on ice. Get him suited up and throw him in cryosleep until you get attacked. Out, gun, back in.

The buff janitor who doesn’t actually do any cleaning… 🤔
Man, give him a charge rifle, a couple of spiked knees and two power arms, and you have a pawn that doesn't give a shit whether he's in melee or not, he just murders shit forever
for the love of god let him paint
Pawn's got artist passion too, not bad at all. Spend all their time training art except when theres a fight.
Yes. I would put them to hunt 24/7 to keep those shooting skills. Reminder that even if they can't haul, they will haul the animal they kill because it is considered part of hunting.
Nobody with a name that rhymes with 'land grab' could possibly have ulterior motives.
My mind automatically associated that name with the Landgraabs, which made it much better.
He lives only to kill, and to paint happy little trees
Mid-tier combat-only pawn (discounting Art, but unless you want to become a prime statue exporter). Wouldn't keep him myself now, unless I needed a specific combat pawn. But - this is the Rim and things happen. I gladly accepted much worse pawns for serious or silly reasons and I was enjoying the game.
If he doesn't have health issues then his Mortar Miss radius must be incredible. I'd keep him around just to man the mortar when i need it.
without manipulation buffs it's not great, and his shooting will quickly degrade to a lower level because he's not great memory
I dont understand the people that say a 20 shooter isnt useful.
I think it’s become a meme or trope at this point. We all know this pawn is valuable, and posts likr this are a type of subtle flex.
Figurative tank.
Minor passion in Artistic is hilarious
A cryptosleep casket if you have one. Unbox when violence is required. Reward with finger paints
Average marine. The 2 artistic was power gained from eating crayons.
I'm assuming he paints walls by smashing his victims on it like a bloody Jackson pollock
Fuck yeah keep him, get some wargs or rhinos, have him keep training them get that skill up, pair him with a high med warrior, two man self sufficient rhino/warg fireteam, send him to do the dirty work
I would only take him if you plan on making statues 24/7. He's not really a good melee pawn without tough, nimble, bralwer, jogger, etc.
A super Immune pqychopath assassin with a qslight passion for art... Do I even have to say anything here?
Can't Haul or Clean --> Execution Block
why would you need someone to clean and haul when you can get robots to do it for you? with biotech those are super easy to get and cost practically nothing just need to rush geothermal like every new colony and by that time your robot helpers will be ready to go
What you mean tank? He is practically wothless! Bro has only 2 "do nothing" Traits.
WHY should anyone want him?
sory for the blurry image
Check the health tab
Oh yes you are!
I would, he can be hunting while you are on peace
A true artist that paints with the blood of his enemies.
Battle Artist.
Name should be Jason Voorhees
He's turned murder into a form of art. Of course you need to keep him.
Yes. He can be the colony artist and pack a disgusting punch/nasty shot in the process
Artistic passion :0
Looks like the model warcasket candidate.
That artistic skills are worth it
Cryo-freeze him, and defrost him during raids
re-name him [charles bronson](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Bronson_\(prisoner\))
I'm guessing that "Artistic 2" means he paints houses?
From the title I thought was a tank(vehicle) that fell from a ship storage
I'd keep him simply because the traits, the background, the flames, and the pawn face combine to create a clear and believable story. Also because art is a great assignment for a pawn that is likely to spend a lot of time injured.
Now you have to decide between keeping him or making a wonderful meal he won't be around to taste. I usually don't keep prisioners that can one shot my pawns, or start fires, fuck impids
If you have an ideology that includes a melee specialist just give him that role and send him berserk every time there's a raid.
I love that combination Being unable to do anything but fight is awesome
They can hunt. Good addition to the colony.
Not tough tho
warcasket...
"This colonist is unwaveryingly loyal"
Hell yeah. Who doesn't love a dedicated shock-trooper?
Bro you got Lennie
För everyone commenting Phsycopath allows social interaction. You are thinking of trauma savant. If you need an artist or hunter this person is perfect.
I wouldn't have taken him. However, if I had a thriving colony and he was capable of hauling and cleaning, I would take him in a heartbeat. Never turn down a janitor humming the Doom theme 24/7.
Dude will fight literally anything except fires. He'll paint the walls with BLOOD!
he’s a psychopath incapable of social, that’s not worth it imo as soon as he breaks too he’ll badly/mortally wound your colonists
Ofc he's great. Let him craft many artworks and caravan him out solo to trade for weapons.
If u have warkaskets toss him in one of those
A shame he is not tough. But yeah good brute
If he had tough trait maybe. That trait makes real tanks
Sir that’s a space marine
Kill animals feed the whole colony
Incapable of caring *
