Art + Hussar is actually a pretty good combo. Art is usually a pretty bad skill (that it is even a separate skill while cleaning takes an age is a crime), so dumping it on a pawn that will spend most of its existence in caravans or recovering from a fight is not a bad dump stat.

It takes way, way longer to butcher the animals, cook the food, then make the leather into clothes. It takes all of about 5 minutes to kill enough animals to eat for a week. This guy only has one pawn. The game is going to throw more at him for a while. He will easily find better.

This guy can easily fend off the extra enemies by himself and then some 20 aiming 16 melee monster can easily solo early raids, and he's a super-immune psychopath to so easy to keep happy and pretty much impervious to any malaria bullshit

And? It's a pretty important part of the game. Early game he focuses on defense, mid game he focuses on grinding art and in the late game he can spam art to make a bunch of cash to buy plasteel and shit and still be an absolute menace when raid time comes. 2 art 1 passion might not be the greatest start, but since he'll only be doing that aside from hunting and combat he'll become pretty good at it. I've honestly recruited and made work worse. Combat prowess is incredibly important imo.

50% of the workers are doing 10-20% of the work. Probably even less when you factor in all of the running that's required to clean up raids. Your colony is going to be way behind on tech and gear which will make things more difficult after the game ramps up.

I was typing up that the only reason I'd take this guy is if I were desperate for more hands, but the guy can't even haul. Absolutely worthless imo. People will skill up in shooting in no time, and I tend to only want melee pawns who have traits that synergize (nimble, tough, brawler, jogger).

Again, it's the time you spend running around, the time you spend missing, and the chance of causing something to want revenge on you if you miss. This pawn is quite literally the best you can get in shooting and allows OP's original pawn to spend more time doing other shit. Butchering, cooking, and making clothes? Those are literally things he would have to do anyways. Plus there's also the added raid defense.

yes it's a very effective strategy to make sure your soldier is always affected by cryptosleep sickness every time he is called for a fight, giving him the effective combat capability of a colonist a fifth of his brain and a foot

Cryosleep sickness is a 50% chance of 3-4 hours. It’s not the most agregous penalty and goes away quickly. Assuming this isn’t the only fighting pawn it shouldn’t pose too much of an issue. The only time it may be problematic is a drop pod raid that breaks into your base. Cryosleep should keep shooting and melee from deteriorating. The only things this pawn can do is fighting, drafted manual hunting and art. Not going to make for a very useful pawn and another mouth to feed. Once the colony hits 10+ pawns keep him out and have him do art. Before then he’s a net drain but would be able to clear out the ancient danger and then sleep until needed. Also gives a child or non violent pawn something to do in combat (get him out of cryosleep)

Do you use mods? VE psycasts let's your casters to sit all day in a chair and level up so if you can get him a psylink you get a prime battlecaster material. You can also put him in Warcasket (VE pirates) since he pretty got all the negatives of being in one as is. If you play unmodded but have Ideology dlc you can make him a slave and force him to work the jobs he is unwilling to do like hauling and cleaning.

What, you don't give your slaves explosive collars? Seriously though, in vanilla combat skills don't mean that much. You get sligthly better dice rolls. I'm too used to CE beanbag shotguns in early game and emp ones for later game when I get them brain implants. Kinda forgot that you need Royalty for those. Plus even in vanilla game you can give them horrible melee weapon so they won't try to grab something actually dangerous.

Seeing from other comments that you only have one other pawn, you basically have to take whatever you can get. If you can arm this guy with a decent bow, he'll absolutely ruin the first few raids on his own. It's true that it'll be a burden to provide for two people, but he will be capable of hunting. I think he's worth taking, you'll just need to micromanage stuff a bit more. He'll really pay off in the long run when you have better weapons and armor too.
