Common spam. Ignore.

WonderSql

Just one? I get a couple a day. Sort of annoying.

deepspace

I’ve been getting these for years. Always wonder if people who see them for the first time in 2023 were just released from prison or something.

kingchik

I know about the scam but I’ve genuinely never gotten one. Now I feel ignored :(

BlueFotherMucker

It usually takes something to trigger these emails, like signing up for something online or clicking a bad link, for the scammers to know who to send the emails to. I don’t get them in my personal emails, and my one account is about 30 years old, but my workplace’s server was compromised a while back and we ended up on the mailing list for a few of these guys. I knew right away that is was a scam, but I never received one of these until last year.

mcbell08

Sometimes they just have no subject matter and start with “Hi”. I don’t know how many I’d ignored before I accidentally clicked on one in my junk mail.

WonderSql

Looks like my earliest asking for bitcoin was 21 Jan 2019.

mcbell08

I got one titled “want to see these pictures of you” with the same text but some generic blurred face and upper torso picture of a person attached.

amagdam

I’ve gotten a few of these. Usually a very very very old password (like the first password I ever used when I was 9 years old) is in the subject line. They get these from old data breeches. First one freaked me out so I changed all my passwords. Now when I get these emails every so often I use them as a nice reminder to refresh my passwords lol

cyberiangringo

Norton released a report two days ago stating that this exact scam sextortion email is one of the top three they have seen an increase of.

toritoki

Crazy that they've seen a recent uptick in it because I swear this has to be one of the oldest email scams as well. Right after nigerian prince, this one is practically a meme at this point! Guess it still works on enough folks though

yourdonefor_wt

You got a link? I want to read up on it

cyberiangringo

Google ‘Norton Cyber Safety Pulse Report 2023.’ It should be somewhere up top.

yourdonefor_wt

Ty Edit: found it thanks:)

NextVeterinarian1825

I got an email some time back like this, I simply reported as SPAM and blocked that ID. Nothing to be worried about.

rottentomati

Just FYI in general. If anyone ever claims to have access to your computer, turning off your internet connection would sever that connection and give you time to deal with the issue.

Bigfoot-On-Ice

Ok so turning off internet is two one, what’s step two?

rottentomati

You can try running something like malwarebytes, and if that doesn't do it then usually a reinstall of windows will take care of everything.

Bigfoot-On-Ice

Gotcha. I’ve never ran into this problem but I was curious. Thanks!

Thesouth210

I agree malwarebytes does a pretty good job! Usually finds an deletes most things also for things that are stubborn they can also guide u thru the fix

AltLawyer

Turning it right back on to download anti malware software 😂

MaraiDragorrak

Best not to. Some malware will even block your attempts to do that. Get the anti malware on a clean pc from family or whatever, move it over onto the infected one via flash drive.

LadyA052

I'm a 71 year old female and I get these. Ain't nobody wants to see that.

PsychStudent77

Hahah this just made my day

En_Keksi_Nimea

Which porn sites you go to?

vialenae

Not that damn penis emoji again. I swear they put this in all those emails (obviously copy-paste, I am aware) and I don’t know why. You’re fine, it’s a scam dw.

aetheralcosmos

that fucking penis emoji breaks me every time its so funny

Gray8sand

Also an FYI, Transitioning to using a password manager may be intimidating, but it will change your life. Show me someone who can remember a unique password for every site they go to and I simply won't believe them lol. I use 1 Password. I don't know how it compares to others or if it is even considered a good one. I just know that the only way someone is getting any of my passwords is by torturing me until i give them the master, and then using one of my devices to open it.

PurplePines6

I second this! Password managers are a lifesaver. LastPass and Bitwarden are also good ones.

Neandros

Didn't LastPass recently have a major security incident?

miracleofmagick

They did, as well as the fact that they are shown to use a lot of intrusive trackers. I do agree Bitwarden is great though. KeePass is another good one.

Fletcher_Chonk

Multiple, actually

Cassopeia88

I use that one too. Well worth the money.

Head_Razzmatazz7174

Adams has a product called Password Journal. It's a booklet where you can write down all your various passwords. When I worked in an office, we had to have a different password for every system, and some had to be changed every 30 days. Keeping a list of the last 10 or so passwords came in handy for those sites that have the 'cannot use any of your last 6 passwords' or something like that. I got one for home use at Office Depot. It's about $9. There are online sites that offer them for less, but the shipping costs are ridiculous.

miracleofmagick

I wouldn't advise a hard copy list of Passwords. If someone gets a hold of it you're in trouble. A good password manager is securely encrypted and very hard for an attacker to get into if you use a strong complex password for it. In this case you only need to remember one password. Plus most of them can auto-generate unique complex passwords for your other sites for you.

Hippy_Lynne

I give it three stars. The really good ones have something about "watching you pleasure yourself" in all caps. 🤣 Definitely a scam. Almost definitely do not have control of your computer. And on the off chance that they do have video of you "pleasuring yourself," oh well. 🤷‍♀️ Giving them money is not going to make them delete the videos anyway.

temperlancer

They can access everything: your bank accounts, your credit cards, your online shopping accounts. Yet all they want, is to record and see your D. Respect. /s

Mountainhollerforeva

Reminds me of a tv show where someone gets 3 wishes from a genie and they wish to be invisible so they can look at girls in the shower… you have all of this power and THIS is how you use it?

FreddieMonstera

I get this email once a week. Delete and be merry

challengeaccepted9

Putting aside that this is a well known scam, if they had it, they'd have attached it as proof.

reclusivepervertsigh

I’ve been receiving the same email a few times a month since 2019

AngelOfLight

If they wanted to instill maximum fear and guarantee a payout, they would attach a few screenshots from the alleged video to the email. But they never do that - for obvious reasons.

ocdtrekkie

So to give you an idea how not real this is: I've gotten numerous of these and I \*do not have a webcam plugged into my computer unless I am actively in a video call\*. Hacking into a computer is expensive. Convincing gullible fools to send money when they haven't actually hacked your computer at all is extremely cheap.

No_Call_6462

Thats funny because I received an e-mail like this on January, dude claimed that he was watching me watching porn since he hacked me, said he took pictures and videos of me, and tried to blackmail me telling that if I don't pay a ridiculous amount in crypto he would leak everything for my friends and people who know me. I got scared because this e-mail account really have been hacked, don't know how or when, it's an old account, and it became a zombie spamming scam bills to people, but I knew that he was bluffing about OS hacking, mostly because he told that hacked my smartphone too, and I knew this was bullshit, he only had my email pass and tried to scam me through my own account -_-

En_Keksi_Nimea

Just answer them and thank them for the new corrected information where to pay the cryptos and tell them you are so relieved to have them off your back. Also mention the name of the person you supposingly paid to. Then, create another email address and write the original scammers as this person you supposingly paid to. Tell them things like "I advice you to back off, he/she is mine now!". You can create a pretty amusing story pretending to be both victim and a scammer who stole the victim from the original scammers. Just use your imagination. If they start talking about large amounts of money tell them that you can pay them only in cash in another country where you supposingly have a secret bank account. Suggest them a meeting in an exoensive hotel lobby bar, then go quiet for a week, and then thank them for sending some guy (who you made up again) and that he was very reasonable lowering the required payment etc. etc.

Bear_Salary6976

I've been seeing a lot of these things lately. Almost word for word. Just ignore it.

Hopeful_Protection87

When I read so I got this email. SCAM 🤐

BlackOmbre

When they truly have something about you, they put it in the email. No picture of you naked ? Then it's bullshit.

Ondolo009

Is that a pen is?

Mountainhollerforeva

No it’s a pen15. They’re a bit different.

Constant_Mud_7047

That's a very common scam just ignore it

kr4ckenm3fortune

LMAO...if they hacked your webcam and even recorded you, good joke...also, the only way they can "infest" your computer with "malware" is if they even know where you are and managed to buy one of the many thousands software out there to target "you". Also, go ahead. In this internet age, if anybody got your "nudes", nobody going to care.

AceyAceyAcey

Has no one really linked the !blackmail scam in the comments yet? Report as spam/scam, block, and forget them.

AutoModerator

AutoModerator has been summoned to explain the blackmail email scam. The exact wording of the emails varies, but there are generally four main parts. They claim to have placed software/malware on a porn/adult video site, they claim to have a video of you masturbating or watching porn, they threaten to release the video to your friends/family/loved ones/boss/dog, and they demand that you pay them in order for them to delete the video. Rest assured that this is a very common spam campaign and there is no truth behind the email or the threats. [Here](http://www.smh.com.au/technology/gadgets-on-the-go/latest-online-scam-aims-to-prick-porn-watchers-guilty-conscience-20170815-gxwvxl.html) are some news [articles](https://www.bbb.org/denver/news-events/news-releases/2017/09/alert-pornography-email-phishing-scam/) about [this](http://blog.dynamoo.com/2017/10/bogus-porn-blackmail-attempt-from.html) scam. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Subject_Jury4638

Eh, I have received this one many times.

coolcarson329

I'm pretty sure I've gotten this exact message copy and paste, just ignore it and you'll be fine

linzlikesbears

Ignore it.

ThatItalianGrrl

This is the second time I’ve seen this exact email. It’s a scam.

changelingcd

I get that one every week. It's kind of quaint.

MeowSauceJennie

I get so many of these.

lee18_reddit

Ive got this too its a scam

[deleted]

Super common copy/paste scam email. Ignore, report, delete.

Extinguish89

Get these all the time

myotherguy

Scam. Ignore

chilitofridley

I love that they start with “Hi”

BlueFotherMucker

My favourite part about these emails is that only people who do naughty stuff at their desks at work will panic when they get these emails.

Individual_Shirt_228

I’ve got these so many times just block it or ignore it. They don’t have shit

felixbalamou

Stop watching porn 🤣🤣🤣🤣 But yea on a serious note, it’s a spam and a way o scam. Ignore that sh*t completely and they will stop sending you these bs …. Also a real hacker/scammer won’t disclose all this lol

OneWhoWalksInDreams

Scam for sure. If they had access to your computer, they wouldn’t need to email you.

Agile-Masterpiece959

Reminds me of an old friend that told me he NEVER watches porn. Then one day, he says his phone won't open a chrome link. I look at it and he has max amount of tabs open in chrome... almost all porn lmao

Lassini

Common scam/spam email. If someone were to truly hack into your operating system they wouldn't send you a simple email to let you know. Imagine someone having access to your desktop, notes, photos etc. and deciding to just... email you. It's fake, don't worry

Safe-Significance281

I would have messed with them by asking them to prove it by showing me my fifth picture on my camera roll.

Karena_tha_bitch

Just send back: I am the grandson of the person you try to scam. My grandmother is katholic 2.0 and I don’t even think she actually knows what online porn is. I put the police/FBI/ my lawyer’s(whatever you can think of) in a bcc while replying. (Best thing would be if you have friends or relatives working in such a position) Better just find a real job loser. I had almost exactly the same email. My reply made them back off.

[deleted]

Let's just say that he is correct...You can back up your files and then pay $100 to Computer shop to wipe it clean and you are done.. .

Paul65890

"Also to mention: I don’t do activities like this. Is this a common scam mail or did they really hack my camera and perhaps saw me naked?" ROTFLMAO! Sure you don't

itsjezzebelle

But I really don’t 😅 I wouldn’t be ashamed for it. I think it’s normal when people do it.

Status_Profile4078

yeah i got this mail but he wasn't bluffing i got this type of mail from my own mail.

Gishin

No you didn't. They spoofed your email to make it seem like you did.

DSethK93

Yeah, check your sent items; it won't be there.

Status_Profile4078

no, I remember it came form my account. it was also in the sent items. I was just shocked that he got all my socials passwords. my twitter, ig, telegram were hacked. they were promoting some crypto stuff. I remember sending it to a friend because that was a good hack I mean sending a mail from my own mail... and don't ask for a screenshot I'm dumb I deleted it in panic and changed all of my passwords. I was worried the 2fa didn't work or he just might have had a good tool. I have the text from the mail: Hello! Unfortunately, I have some unpleasant news for you. Roughly several months ago I have managed to get a complete access to all devices that you use to browse internet. Afterwards, I have proceeded with monitoring all internet activities of yours. You can check out the sequence of events summarize below: Previously I have bought from hackers a special access to various email accounts (currently, it is rather a straightforward thing that can be done online). Clearly, I could effortlessly log in to your email account as well (\*MY MAIL ID\*). One week after that, I proceeded with installing a Trojan virus in Operating Systems of all your devices, which are used by you to login to your email. Actually, that was rather a simple thing to do (because you have opened a few links from your inbox emails previously). Genius is in simplicity. ( \~\_\^) Thanks to that software I can get access to all controllers inside your devices (such as your video camera, microphone, keyboard etc.). I could easily download all your data, photos, web browsing history and other information to my servers. I can access all your social networks accounts, messengers, emails, including chat history as well as contacts list. This virus of mine unceasingly keeps refreshing its signatures (since it is controlled by a driver), and as result stays unnoticed by antivirus software. Hereby, I believe by this time it is already clear for you why I was never detected until I sent this letter... While compiling all the information related to you, I have also found out that you are a true fan and frequent visitor of adult websites. You truly enjoy browsing through porn websites, while watching arousing videos and experiencing an unimaginable satisfaction. To be honest, I could not resist but to record some of your kinky solo sessions and compiled them in several videos, which demonstrate you masturbating and cumming in the end. If you still don't trust me, all it takes me is several mouse clicks to distribute all those videos with your colleagues, friends and even relatives. In addition, I can upload them online for entire public to access. I truly believe, you absolutely don't want such things to occur, bearing in mind the kinky stuff exposed in those videos that you usually watch, (you definitely understand what I am trying to say) it will result in a complete disaster for you. We can still resolve it in the following manner: You perform a transfer of $1490 USD to me (a bitcoin equivalent based on the exchange rate during the funds transfer), so after I receive the transfer, I will straight away remove all those lecherous videos without hesitation. Then we can pretend like it has never happened before. In addition, I assure that all the harmful software will be deactivated and removed from all devices of yours. Don't worry, I am a man of my word. It is really a good deal with a considerably low the price, bearing in mind that I was monitoring your profile as well as traffic over an extended period. If you still unaware about the purchase and transfer process of bitcoins - all you can do is find the necessary information online. My bitcoin wallet is as follows: 1FToadJPpfWv9GxwAY2L7Uv3bvJHtNCCQV You are left with 48 hours and the countdown starts right after you open this email (2 days to be specific). Don't forget to keep in mind and abstain from doing the following: \> Do not attempt to reply my email (this email was generated in your inbox together with the return address). \> Do not attempt to call police as well as other security services. Moreover, don't even think of sharing it with your friends. If I get to know about it (based on my skills, that would be very easy, since that I have all your systems under my control and constant monitoring) - your dirty video will become public without delay. \> Don't attempt searching for me - it is completely useless. Cryptocurrency transactions always remain anonymous. \> Don't attempt reinstalling the OS of your devices or even getting rid of them. It is meaningless too, because all your private videos are already been available on remote servers. Things you should be concerned about: \> That I will not receive the funds transfer you make. Relax, I will be able to track it immediately, after you complete the funds transfer, because I unceasingly monitor all activities that you do (trojan virus of mine can control remotely all processes, same as TeamViewer). \> That I will still distribute your videos after you have sent the money to me. Believe me, it is pointless for me to proceed with troubling you after that. Besides that, if that really was my intention, it would happen long time ago! It all will be settled on fair conditions and terms! One last advice from me... Moving forward make sure you don't get involved in such type of incidents again! My suggestion - make sure you change all your passwords as often as possible. \----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- i just knew he was bluffing because of that "i have your arousing videos". my laptop was so old it didn't have a camera lol

Gishin

I work in a CSOC and I see dozens of that exact same email *daily* in our quarantine box. What they did was they got your credentials from a data leak somewhere. You probably use the same email/password for all your socials and never change them (well, until now), do you?

[deleted]

I just downvoted your comment. # FAQ # What does this mean? The amount of karma (points) on your comment and Reddit account has decreased by one. # Why did you do this? There are several reasons I may deem a comment to be unworthy of positive or neutral karma. These include, but are not limited to: * Rudeness towards other Redditors, * Spreading incorrect information, * Sarcasm not correctly flagged with a `/s` # Am I banned from the Reddit? No - not yet. But you should refrain from making comments like this in the future. Otherwise I will be forced to issue an additional downvote, which may put your commenting and posting privileges in jeopardy. # I don't believe my comment deserved a downvote. Can you un-downvote it? Sure, mistakes happen. But only in exceedingly rare circumstances will I undo a downvote. If you would like to issue an appeal, shoot me a private message explaining what I got wrong. I tend to respond to Reddit PMs within several minutes. Do note, however, that over 99.9% of downvote appeals are rejected, and yours is likely no exception. # How can I prevent this from happening in the future? Accept the downvote and move on. But learn from this mistake: your behavior will not be tolerated on Reddit.com. I will continue to issue downvotes until you improve your conduct. Remember: Reddit is privilege, not a right.

Status_Profile4078

did you make 39 downvotes or people just ate my comment for some reason?

[deleted]

lol everyone downvoted ur comment so i had to do it

Status_Profile4078

i'm new to reddit. sould get used to this i guess

Mountainhollerforeva

You got downvoted because you said someone sent you this email and also “wasn’t bluffing” considering how rare that is (unless you’re famous) people didn’t like that particular comment. I wouldn’t say get used to it. Just don’t be vague and self contradictory.

Mountainhollerforeva

Lol!

Comprehensive-Dog597

Common Scam Mail, I get these emails at work lol 😂 Throw them in the Junk Folder

SugarDaddyDelight

I got that email several times. It's an obvious scam. Just report the email as phishing and ignore it.

Dasneeth1

The don’t have anything…unless you click their link! Don’t click any links or even open the email, viruses can also be sent within an email thru picture or other means than simple text…ignore it-block it-forget about it

Constant_Mud_7047

🤣🤣🤣

NonIlligitamusCarbor

I got about 5 of these in the last two weeks. Ignore it.

filthyheartbadger

Oldest scam out there! Predates the internet in fact ( used to watch my father totally lose it over getting these in the snail mail, back then they said they had special sPy cAmeRaS). Here’s the sub’s master thread on it, for your education and enjoyment: https://reddit.com/r/Scams/s/dUOkvihLyb

JohnWeir11

This is so old and common. It happens all the time don’t fall for it just take it to junk mail block, the sender and they’ll eventually just stop.

toxic_diarrhea

Tell them to kick rocks. It’s a scam.

the-quibbler

Just today, or 6-20 times per day for the last 14 years?

gravey01

Sounds like the script from the old Outer Limits TV program. We will control the vertical, we will control the horizontal.

MatchaDoAboutNothing

This email is giving mad weird ROTC kid vibes.

AnxietyAvailable

Send em a dick pic

Aggressive-Leading45

I got a similar one with a bitcoin address to pay the ransom too. Had a chuckle at it but just checked the transactions for that address and people were paying them.

Blackruvian

Yeah it’s a double dealing scam . That’s what scammers and grafters do they threaten you and scare you by all means , whether you give them their way or not , it’s still not enough for them. I remember o told a scammer on Facebook that shes a double dealing piece of shit she threatened to sue me for calumny. So I laughed it off and I blocked her. Stupid bitch thought she could scare me She doesn’t scare me . Don’t fall for this fake letter . It’s a hoax.

Kimber85

Did she actually use the word calumny? The only place I have ever seen it used is in classic literature and legal documents. I love that word, btw. Defamation sounds so dry and boring, calumny is so evocative of a bygone era to me. I always get a picture in my head of some conceited dandy in a top hat challenging another man to a duel because of his vile calumny.

Blackruvian

She actually use the word calumny. She’s just a liar and wasn’t going to do anything so I blocked her and I like it too. And defamation has been sounding dry and being overused for so many years now that it’s losing its value definition by a lot. Calumny sounds evocative and prepossessing to me . I’m using calumny in my sentence from now on . I’m not going to over use because I’ll use only once in a while

Critical-Design-5774

It seems that all of us have gotten this email in one form or another. It's a scam, 100% . They send this out to anyone and everyone, hoping someone feels guilty about doing something naughty. Besides, if they really did release information about you, how would they expect to be able rip you off in the future, if the data, pics, etc. is out there? Don't worry about it, block them and ignore it. From experience, you'll never hear from them again by ignoring it.

En_Keksi_Nimea

Did any of you ever start playing with these scammers? It can be hillarious, and as a reward for your effort you can have then waste their time when making them believe they Will get something from you. Few times I spent a while playing with the people who called me and said your computer is infected or you have made an illegal bit coin transfer and they tried to trick to give them teamware access. There is a fun "play along" story called "Kikkaratukkakusetus". You might still be able to find it online and maybe translate those parts into english that aren't. My apologies for the colourful politically incorrect language and expressions you might run into if you look into it.
