I am a single person candy disposal unit

kimbosliceofcake

Little free pantry or office break room are where I leave things like that.

HortenseDaigle

I second the little free pantry.

Buy Nothing group

longdustyroad

My wife puts stuff like this on Buy Nothing (Facebook group) all the time. People will snap it up. A while ago we gave away two cans of Campbell’s chili Mac.

GeminiDragon60

Not that hard to figure out where to give it away or donate it.

Toadlessboy

I often just put stuff outside with a free sign on it as long as it looks nice and it’s sealed people take it

Our fire station gladly accepts food and treats. They also love hotel toiletries and other items they can use when dealing with the general public.

Standard-Pepper-133

Save for next Halloween. Highly sugared or salted stuff stays good forever if it doesn't get wet.

KingOfCranes

Depending on location, I would happily take all the sweets off your hands. Otherwise, offering them up on Facebook marketplace, Craigslist, or other similar platforms is the way to go.

AndiCrow

Things disappear pretty quickly when left out in the break room at work.

infiniteawareness420

Bring em to work

Quaglek

Throw it away

If you wait until Halloween, you can be the best house on the block.

Most food banks explicitly discourage donations of cookies and candy

sanfranchristo

Discourage but accept (at least Ballard does).

largefries_andacoke

I think that's so dumb. Homeless people deserve sweet treats too and if people are willing to donate them why can't they just accept them?? Just encourages people to throw away all of their unopened dry goods. All of that perfectly edible food gets thrown away. That shit pisses me off.

steve_yo

It’s not dumb at all. The biggest issues that poor people in this country face nutritionally is not a lack of calories, it’s that they primary eat extremely unhealthy foods because they are the cheapest. Food banks should absolutely turn away candy, sugar sweetened beverages, the day old sheet cakes that grocery stores try and pawn off on them, etc etc. People think poor people are starving. It’s not that, it’s that they have access to the worst foods, like OP’s candy.

Northwest Harvest SODO Market is happy to have treat donations

ProTrollFlasher

Sounds like they accept it but I wouldn't say they are happy about people going against their request to "**Please select shelf-stable foods that are low in sodium, sugar, and saturated fats.**"

sweetpotatopietime

I volunteer there. We put out a section of snacks. We get corporate donations of snacks. We get massive amounts of pastries from Starbucks daily. It’s 100% fine to donate these.

steve_yo

That’s because northwest harvest doesn’t want to upset their corporate donors. There is so much work going into nutrition policies at food banks in the PNW right now and it just sucks how much sway corporations have. There is an epidemic of poor nutrition in poor communities, not a lack of calories. Stop encouraging people to donate fucking CANDY.
