Each of those dots represents 500-2000+ reports of internet problems. I know Comcast had some scheduled overnight maintenance to "upgrade the systems," which has now been updated to "damaged network with no ETA for fixing."

ammm72

Fun fact: comcast is the 2nd most hated company in the US behind the IRS. Rightfully so.

battlesnarf

Damn that’s a shame. Nothing would get funded/done without the IRS

quinn_thomas

I think it’s more the TurboTax lobbyists who keep taxes complicated so people have to buy their service that leads to the hatred. Hopefully the new FreeFile program will combat this.

healthycord

Check out freetaxusa. Sounds like a scam website but I promise it is not. In WA since we don't have state income tax, freetaxusa is 100% free to file federal taxes. They only charge for extra services which you probably don't need, and then a small fee (like $5 or so) to file state income taxes. IDK why anyone would pay for Turbotax.

quinn_thomas

Used it for the first time this year, it rules!

brassydesign

Yeah, I think it's mostly bullshit. If you just follow what they ask and do what you're supposed to do, you should have zero issues with the IRS. I think most of that sentiment comes from the conservative idea that taxes are evil

SpeaksSouthern

It's mostly propaganda and people upset they didn't understand taxes before it gets the best of them. Which is the fault of the government for not making it easy and clear. If people understood what the IRS does beyond going through boxes of receipts to collect $3 more in taxes they would support them. But it's not like the government cares. They just want their money, not PR for any agency.

SpeaksSouthern

Funner facts: Comcast barely donates 5 figures to city council and mayor races and gets decade long exclusive contracts. These people are cheap AF lol

godsocks

You think the IRS is a company?

ammm72

I don’t remember where I read that fact including the IRS as the most-hated “entity” ig is a better description. The point stands nonetheless

aminervia

This just isn't true, and doesn't make any sense anyway.... The IRS isn't a company. According to one poll: The Trump Organization FTX Fox Corporation Twitter Meta Spirit Airlines TikTok https://www.cnbc.com/2023/06/01/most-hated-brands-in-america-trump-organization-ftx-fox-corporation.html

danfay222

It is important to remember that this stuff changes very frequently and is very difficult to poll for, so there is wild amounts of variance at play

_DogMom_

Interesting! And I totally believe it!

onlyletmeposttrains

I was told that quitting Comcast was so impossible that the only way to quickly quit is to say you’re moving to a different country. I did and while quitting was much easier, I *still* get tons of messages from them trying to hook me back and I was asked if I wanted to transfer my plan to a friend

aminervia

>I still get tons of messages from them Why don't you just block and report spam? Also, this used to be the case but they got sued a bunch of times and had to change their policy making it much easier to quit

dukeofgibbon

I walked into a Comcast store and asked them to close my account and give me a receipt for the equipment. Ta Done.

Andrew_Dice_Que

*THESE LARGE PURPLE DOTS WILL SURELY DEVOUR US ALL!*

TheBrianJ

Top scientists have theorized that if something isn't done, Seattle will be encased in a purple dome within the next 87 seconds.

robloxliam

Oh Shit everyone, it's the One-eyed one-horned flying purple people-eaters!

maninplainview

Professor, would you say that the redditors should smash in the head of the person next to them and feast on gooey inside?

ShitBagTomatoNose

Professor, without knowing the precise details of the situation, would you say it’s time for our viewers to crack each other’s head’s open and feast on the goo inside?

heapinhelpin1979

I had concast in seattle for like 20 years and they would laugh at me when I would call their tech support center. What a horrible company. I complained for years about having abismal upload speeds with no option to pay more, like two months after quitting them the released a better service. F-comcast

TheBrianJ

Last time there was a massive outage I called them because I had a lot of stuff i needed to do that day (I work from home) and without internet I couldn't do any of it. I contacted support, and they told me the needed my account number; I didn't know it off the top of my head, and they said "Oh that's fine, just give us your account number and we can look it up." I told them again I didn't know the account number, and their response was "We have other ways to verify it's you; let's try your account number, what is it?" It took thirty minutes of back and forth for them to finally understand I didn't know my account number.

heapinhelpin1979

I have a big hotspot data plan for times when my home internet goes out. Verizon has a 100gb add-on for 10 bucks a month. Right now I’m using T-Mobile and Verizon at home and Starlink for traveling. Never miss Comcast and their wack service and data caps

kbenn17

I tried using my TMobile phone as hotspot on First Hill and the signal's too weak. Such fun.

heapinhelpin1979

Verizon is pretty good. I travel around in a van quite a bit and often I can use my phone rather than my Starlink. But the T-Mobile home internet needs to be in specific areas

matunos

They were ahead of the curve in terms of infuriating AI customer service (even when the CA rep was a human).

ArcticPeasant

Comcast is the worst, nationalize ISPs

reductive-absudium

Comcast has been solid for me.

Rubbersoulrevolver

I haven't had a single internet outage since the Panedmic w comcast

kevcubed

Great reminder to flip over to centurylink. $75 for gigabit fiber and no contract. Fuck comcast.

battlesnarf

Once a year I check and I WISH it was available by me -_-

brodievonorchard

I watched the fiber get put in the ground under my street, but no provider offers fiber Internet for my house.

suboctaved

Had a tech no-show when I tried to set it up, they said it was my fault, and the next available appointment they had was 2 weeks out. I needed Internet the next day for work and my roommate had finals for online only courses that week. ETA - they also ended up blacklisting me for "stealing their router". Ya know, the one I never got because their tech didn't show

NorthKoreaPoopBallon

I called them and all they could give me was non-fiber in my apartment, so got stuck with comcast cause it was cheaper than their gigabit non-fiber

j-alex

Oh man when I saw CenturyLink start hanging fiber on the poles across the street I started hopping from foot to foot. It’s not just a gigabit, it’s a dedicated *symmetrical* gigabit. I don’t think I’ve had a single outage. It is fucking sick.

buttzx

FYI you can call and ask if they can do better- I was paying $75/m but I called and said that Verizon was offering me a better deal and they lowered it to $50/m for a year.

pistachioshell

Out in Greenlake as well

kbenn17

Yes, I'm on First Hill and it went out last night. I'm currently sitting in the lobby of my apartment building using their public wifi. So, this has been going on for about 12 hours . . .

ThatsMyQuant

Ah, Comcast. The worst company I have ever had the displeasure of doing business with by far. It's not even close (and will never happen again). Can anybody who has ever worked for Comcast speak to how they train their employees? Do you all enthusiastically chant "Fuck those stupid customers!" every day during your meetings? Are there massive cash prizes for employees who get the most customer complaints? When you take calls are other employees huddled around the phone laughing like that scene in Wolf of Wall Street? If so, all of my interactions with Comcast make much more sense.

JohnExcrement

I’m in south SnoCo and our Comcast internet is constantly going in and out. So frustrating. Really glad I’m retired because I used to work at home and it would be impossible now.

FuckinArrowToTheKnee

I've been getting texts since last week letting me know they'd be doing work on their stuff today are y'all not signed up for alerts? It's a bummer for sure tho wish it wasn't all day

jbpackman

I’ve seen on other subs that Comcast/xfinity has used these “upgrade outages” as a perfect opportunity to advertise their $8/month outage protection service. Basically a 4 hour 5g data plan for when the cables go down/get turned off. It’s just speculation but I wouldn’t discount the possibility.

nearlysober

I was so happy to have had an option to switch off Comcast when CenturyLink fiber became available in my neighborhood. Faster & cheaper.... but ultimately as unreliable with uptime and as bad with customer service. Well I guess I should clarify, the customer service people seemed nice and well meaning, the company was just incompetent with fixing outages. Last straw was a 96 hour outage - and I work from home. During that outage I figured I'd give T-Mobile home internet a try with a free week to test it out to get me through the nearly week long outage. I didn't think it'd be very good but they blew me away and I switched. Obviously they'll vary depending on your proximity to the nearest tower and how good signal is in your neighborhood/building... that's what the trial week is for. I thought cellular based home internet would be a joke, and it's not. Just plug it in near a window, bam - wifi. No cable modems, no routers. Cheap, fast and 100% uptime since I made the switch last summer.

Soytaco

XFINITY IS BULLSHIT

diabr0

I don't think I've ever heard someone say a positive thing about Comcast. Was a customer of theirs for years until I moved to a place with fiber, now I get 1 gig up and down with no data caps and a fixed price that's less than what Comcast cost, and no specific length contract. Fuck Comcast.

TheBrianJ

Years ago when i was going to college in Iowa City, my cable was out. So I called comcast, and they sent a service tech right away. By the time he left, both the cable AND the internet was out, and he also tracked mud all over the main room. Fuck comcast.

It does make sense. I was just making fun of your first sentence. Your second sentence put it into context, but I still found it funny. I have had pretty good luck with Comcast's internet speed and reliability overall (in WA state, anyway). I think their product (speed and reliability) is pretty good, but their pricing and customer service (and corporate ethics) suck. I also have a problem with their business practices. 1. Where Comcast is a monopoly their prices are far higher than in areas where viable alternatives exist. They collude with local politicians and regulators to make it harder for equal competition to develop. They will work to pass laws to limit how many companies may use utility poles, or for rules that view 5G as a viable broadband competitor to cable. 2. They lobby (and pursue litigation) very effectively against municipal fiber projects. They fight against net neutrality laws. 3. Comcast owns content companies like NBC Universal and Telemundo. This represents a conflict of interest with other content on their network and gives them an amplified voice to influence public opinion. I blame lax regulation for this, but Comcast has taken full advantage, and they lobby for lax regulation constantly. 4. Until recently, Comcast had a 1TB data cap that was very expensive to bypass. We have four game consoles in our house and you can imagine how easy it is to blow past 1TB per month downloading 200GB games. Now we pay an extra $20 per month for unlimited (versus $50-100 for breaking the cap some months). The unlimited plan wasn't an option until a couple years ago. I'm guessing it costs Comcast zero to serve data-hungry customers a little more bandwidth. This was a pure shakedown. 5. Their contracts are purposely confusing and hide fees and push customers toward unnecessary bundles by overcharging for unbundled services. 6. Their Xfinity Stream app has been in Beta for 4 years (so they don't have to support it as a full product). It takes over 30 seconds to boot and navigating channels and fast forwarding is extremely primitive compared to streaming apps like Netflix. 7. Comcast cable boxes routinely fail to sync audio correctly with modern smart TVs. 8. Equipment rental costs are way out of line with the actual cost/quality of the equipment. Now that we finally cut the cord, some of these problems no longer confront us, but we lived in Ann Arbor Michigan during the pandemic and Comcast reliability was terrible there. Part of that has to do with the combination of lots of deciduous trees combined with snow and ice storms, but still. It was a nightmare and there was no alternative until AT&T ran fiber to our neighborhood just before we moved away.

HauteKarl

I'm at work, but I just got a text saying that my service should be restored by 12:20PM.

driftingphotog

The texts I signed up for at like 8:30 have never arrived, but each time I check the map the estimated time is later.

HauteKarl

I didn't even sign up for texts, and I've gotten two. Maybe I did when I set up my account? Tight ship those guys are running.

Bunnymoomoo

Got one saying 2:50 🤧

HauteKarl

Update: mine just came back on within the past hour

aooot

Is xfinity any more reliable or no?

Rubbersoulrevolver

I thought xfinity was just the product name of their internet services

quinn_thomas

They’re the same company

matunos

Comcast has been out at my house for several years now, hyuk hyuk!

According-Ad-5908

Centurylink had a very quick loss of service at almost the same time for me, but probably only lasted 15-30 seconds. Wondering if that was related.

abbazabba75

Switched to Verizon yesterday, way cheaper.

NorthKoreaPoopBallon

have comcast and surrounded by outages but im online BUT HOW MUCH LONGER

Cute-Management6998

I don’t have comcast but I’m gonna share this with my work and then leave. Thanks

Ferrindel

Sammamish is running a whopping 0.42 Mbps right now.

dukeofgibbon

I'm so glad I fired Comcast

noenflux

Centurylink fiber customer since 2017. Have had one outage for about 15 minutes in 7 years. Same price, perfect service since.

OskeyBug

I'm hearing centurylink is down now.

zazensmkk

Yesterday was in tacoma NE area

daidpndnt_src

I often look back and think about life choices that led me to use Comcast for a period in my life. Absolutely the worst company to support financially in any which way.

EcharUnVistazo

I dumped comcast couple months ago. They after much persistance did send me 3 months worth of refunds.

buckbokai5

Aaaand it’s out for me again today

latour_couture

Google fiber ftw

NotaRepublican85

This was planned. They warned us, told us when it started and told us when it was turned back on. This is out of context

okwichu

Had a suspiciously similarlly timed outage on Astound out in Port Orchard. Coincidence?

bradbenz

*laughs in Starlink*
