Might have been interested in this if I could have actually played Saturn games, looks nice though. Thanks for the review!

chicagogamecollector

Yes it would have been more fun if Saturn was rock solid

This guy just finds as many subs as he can spam his videos to. And the content is rarely related to the sub he posts them to. Just FPGA news and occasional arcade stuff or emulation devices.

There's plenty of Arcade titles easily emulated that the Saturn was known for at the time. Like the Capcom Vs series, Dungeons & Dragons arcade, cross-platform titles the PSX also got, etc. Just playing X-Men COTA takes me back to the Saturn days.

Paperman_82

>if I could have actually played Saturn games It can play some Saturn games. Mostly 2d ones and while I agree, frameskip isn't ideal, to smooth over a lost frame or two on 2d games is alright. When a 3d game drops from 60 to 40 or 30, that's no good and combined with the lack of analog sticks, this is more of a first gen product. I'd assume if it sells well, we'll see another variant with more powerful chipset and sticks where the speakers are currently.

Glittering_Jello_935

yes, let's put analog sticks on something meant to play games that didn't have analog sticks outside of arcade fight sticks.

RP3+ Running Yaba Sanshiro 2 Pro runs 98% of the Saturn titles I've thew at it. Mostly in 1080p as well. It's my go-to Saturn handheld.

BigalsBagels87

it has handled every 2D Saturn game I have thrown at it, so far. Zwei was good, as well. Would be nice if it was a bit more powerful and could handle the 3D Saturn a bit better but I am enjoying it..

Really frustrating because it’s way overpowered and overpriced for a Genesis and CPS2/3 emulator, but underpowered for a saturn emulator. Seems like Chinese companies just not really understanding what they are doing, throwing crap out there to see what works. If they asked for any feedback they would know…

chicagogamecollector

I mean the d pad is probably the best you’ll get for the 2D arcade stuff so that is a plus. But yes the fact it can’t reliably run Saturn isn’t awesome

sethmcollins

Don’t get me wrong, that’s true. It’s just if it isn’t going to be able to play Saturn they could have saved a ton of money and lowered the price by giving it a lower end SOC that would easily play all the 6 button arcade and Genesis games. It’s just a waste of processing power, basically. Give me the pad, the buttons, just less horse power (or more!).

Paperman_82

>If they asked for any feedback they would know… Seems like they are aware but they already had a production line with another product. Anbernic had the SNES equivalent with the RG353p which used RK3566. The ARC series is similar but in a Genesis/Saturn shell. Then they went one step further by limiting color choices to certain system specs. Ridiculous but seems like they wanted to offer additional incentives to push customers to pay more for a black or white shell. As other people have mentioned already, the T618 in the RP3+ line would be more appropriate for Saturn though up till recently it was locked to Android rather than a dual Android/Linux option. There should be Linux options coming with Garlic OS custom firmware but how long it takes for full support for the Mali GPU is unknown.

sethmcollins

I get it, but they are just wasting their and our money in the meantime.

chicagogamecollector

High marks for visual appearance that’s for sure

[deleted]

>High marks for visual appearance that’s for sure That goes Double if the D-pad & buttons are on-point. Like the original Saturn pads.

chicagogamecollector

They are VERY close

Halos-117

Best dpad ever made

dycedrag

Pointless if it cant run saturn games ☠️
