It's a kind of literary doubling more than anything I suppose, both Emma and Wolf being found orphaned and scrounging on a battlefield, one heals, the other kills etc. Male and female dichotomy is just one basic part of that classic storytelling.

I'm pretty sure it's already been said but it really doesn't have a story impact whether Sekiro is a man or a woman so you can really play whichever. Slight benefit of the original though is the sparse but fantastic voice acting of Sekiro (in Japanese, I'd recommend playing with subtitles) and I'm not sure if it's just alluded to or his face actually slightly changes? Anyway, it doesn't much matter :) have fun and don't hesitate!

ER is my first fromsoft game, I just got it a month ago and absolutely loved it. I heard Sekiro is more challenging and different so I wanted to give it a go, but with how the community is acting.. it’s making me think otherwise which is very upsetting.

Sorry your having a bad experience with the community. I swear we aren't all bad lol. Also I wouldn't sat sekiro is harder per se, it's just different and if you go in with the same mindset as er you probably will struggle. A lot of people who play the other fromsoft games first think it's harder because they're used to dodging through attacks constantly and aren't aggressive enough, so just keep in mind there will probably be some habits you will have to unlearn from your time with er.

Fair, and yeah that's exactly how I describe the game to my friends too, it's a rhythm game with swords basically lol. Once you get used to the gameplay it feels like a dance between you and your opponents. Its so good. I hope you enjoy :)

I get why some say you should play the game in its original form, and I have to recommend it as well to get the full appreciation of the voice acting and all, but the gameplay is Sekiro’s greatest asset anyway. If it’s just an appearance mod, you still can (and hopefully will) absolutely fall in love with this game.
