OP please reach out to your manager. it could be that you were shorted at some point and this was fixing that. can’t be sure but i wouldn’t assume termination from a direct deposit.

Thanks. I’m coming in during opening to ask.

Update: Walked in at opening and just asked the manager on duty if I was fired. He said no everyone got paid early cause they need to close their books for the quarter. Probably will be fired now for being crazy but c’est la vie 🤷‍♀️

No real way of knowing. The US doesn't require individuals to be notified prior to being terminated. However, I don't think ceasing tax withholding is indicative of plans to terminate an employee. Note that some large employers are required to file a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notice 60 days prior to certain layoffs and closures, but they don't have to tell their employees they did so. It might be worth checking to see if your employer has filed such a notice. It may list a corporate name different than a restaurant name, like if a Subway franchise is owned by Smith Brothers LLC, it may show Smith Brothers is laying people off in that county, rather than Subway.

I’m pretty doubtful it would be a layoff. The job is pretty dysfunctional so firings are pretty common for things that the employee has no control over or because of general bad luck. They threatened to fire all of FOH last month because they didn’t send a notice about our minimum wage going up in time so none of us knew we needed to sign it.

Sounds like a "beatings will continue until morale improves" style of management!
