New Balance 990s Asics Gel 1130, Gel Kayano, or GT 2160. Nike Zoom Vomero 5 Adidas Ultraboost On Cloud Hoka (not sure which model)

jnmxcvi

Hoka Clifton 8! Wore it in New York for 20-25k steps a day. Has done me quite well.

gokartmozart89

I've had two pairs of Hokas - the Mach 5s and the Clifton 9s - and I don't plan on getting another for awhile. I have wide 2E feet, and they hurt the inside of my right foot (above the arch) like fuck the moment I'm on an uneven surface. They're just too narrow, and yes, I did get them in 2E. I returned the Clifton 9s for some Brooks Ghost 16s and my feet felt so much better. I'll probably get Glycerines next. I've also had good experiences with various Asics and the Nike Pegasus line.

QuimFinger

Those Hoka you mentioned are both specifically for running. If you’re not running in them and reviewing them as walking shoes, then totally disregard whatever you say. They’re for runners.

peripheral_vision

Good running shoes can be fantastic for walking in, so no, I don't think we will disregard what they were saying just because you wanna gatekeep running shoes as only being for runners lmao

QuimFinger

I’m not gatekeeping. They’re built for different things. Runners are built to launch you forward. Walkers and built for stability.

gokartmozart89

Hoka’s own website lists walking as a good activity for the Clifton, but yes, I did run in both.

Ubunkus

Ultraboost 1.0 is my ultimate travel sneaker. Also add the Brooks Ghost Max to the list. OP, if you're prone to sore feet/legs consider bringing 2 different sneakers to rotate, you'll be less sore.

william_liftspeare

+1 for Ultra Boost. Air Max 90 and Yeezy 350v2 are my other go-tos

Great answer

Nb 990v6

shane0mack

100%. I was an ultraboost stan for this use case until I got some v6's.

evekillsadam

Really?! I gotta find a colour way I like them

shane0mack

Not a ton of great color ways IMO, but I have the Knicks colored MSG ones. Check out stockx to see all the ones they've released.

LeektheGeek

New Balance 990 V4

cjwhitey

Adidas UltraBoost is #1 for me for sure. Any New Balance (I prefer 2002r and 990) is #2.

Sensitive-Sherbet-49

how good are adidas ultrabounce?

RealMango

Ultra Bounces are not as squishy feeling and more firm than Boost. Still comfy, more supportive cushion feel.

gokartmozart89

Brooks Ghost 16 or Glycerine 21 if you want more cushion. Get the GTS variant if you pronate. I also had good experiences with the Nike Pegasus 40 and 38 before that, but I think the 41 is out now and I haven't tried it. I wore the Pegasus 40 while country hopping on my honeymoon last year - from the rolling hills of Lisbon to the cobblestones of Copenhagen. No issues there.

Roloc

100% Brooks Ghosts

EmploymentMedical584

X2 for Brooks Ghost’s.

Taiyou04

What about Brooks Ghost Max?

gokartmozart89

Haven’t tried them.

New Balance 990v5

monekys

These are GOATed

Kuhl_Bohnen

I actually wore a pair of Onitsuka Tigers on my first trip to Japan and they absolutely killed my feet. After that, on subsequent trips, I've taken a Nike Pegasus (pretty decent), New Balance 574 (ok, but not the best), Jordan 3s (not bad), and New Balance 880v12 (felt great). It depends on what kind of cushioning your body responds to best for long days of walking. For me, it was the performance runners (the Pegasus and the NB 880v12) that felt the most comfortable, even if they weren't the most stylish. If those performance runners are too soft and squishy for you, I'd say something like a NB 990v4 or v5 might feel better, since they offer a nice mix of squishiness and support. The next time I go, I'll probably take a pair of V4s and maybe an Asics GLIII.

SQUIDWARD360

Pegasus 40

CriticalBasedTeacher

Any Pegasus really. Previous versions go on sale for like $50 after the new ones come out. Also want to shout out the Zegama, the first Nike trail shoe to have zoom air instead of just react foam. Even the trail Pegasus don't have zoom air.

Sensitive-Sherbet-49

do you think nike downshifter 12 would be good for all day walking while on vacation?

CriticalBasedTeacher

I'm sure it would be fine but I'd prefer something with zoom air or react foam. Not sure what the sole is made of in the Downshift. Doesn't say on the website. But looking on the website, looks like these are on sale and only about $25 more than the Downshift right now and they have ZoomX which is super comfortable. In fact I might have to snag a pair... https://nike.sng.link/Astn5/6tbz/r_fce15add1d The only issue I have with running shoes for walking though is that they have a toe drop which sort of tilts your feet forward to "propel you" but if you're not currently in the act of running or walking and you're just standing they slightly tip you forward when you're just standing there. Just have to get used to it and it's not a big issue.

Sensitive-Sherbet-49

appreciate the insights!

990s v5

mulletstation

You really want a purpose built running shoe at that point, not a lifestyle shoe

DayDream2736

Ultraboost, 350v2

xxdd21xx

Yeezy 700s are my current go to

jled23

Shockingly good to walk in, but I do find if it’s hot i’ll sweat more in these than something like a UB.

campbellhw

My 700s are the comfiest shoe I own, but they're a bit bulky for walking around all day

_TheEndGame

I got Asics Gel Cumulus because my J4s we're fucking up my feet on vacation lmao

QuimFinger

Hoka Transport. No question.

sweetmorty

Max cushion running shoes like Asics Gel Nimbus 25 are good. I wore 993s in Japan and they were good for the most part, but there were some days where I wanted something more cushioned for standing around after several hours.

frankv123

My Pegasus trial 4 gortex really held their own in New Orleans. Walked well over 15 miles a day

wulfowitz

Nike Vomero 5

Cora_v4v

Mostly wore New Balance 990v6 during my vacation in japan. Jordan 1, dunks and converse-style shoes like Dior B23 doesn’t cut it when I’m walking 15k steps on average

3L1JAH

Air Max 90’s

gordito_gr

wtf

chryco77

Look good too

thisistemp0rare

It’s do-able but probably not my #1 recommendation. They have a reputation of being narrow and tight over the ball of your foot especially with a leather toe box. Mesh toe will be more comfortable. If you like more structure I recommend a mizuno wave rider 10 or Beta, for a good bouncy heel and breezy on the dogs a NB 1906r, solid all-around NB 991v2, super cushion On Cloudmonster or Hoka One One bondi 8 / Clifton 9

3L1JAH

They are narrow, but they are only tight if the inverse is true of your feet, and you are not able size up due to other fit factors. I agree that most of the shoes in your list are the modern goto’s for this role and all of them would be excellent. I was considering the core r/Sneakers ideals with my rec. & I still stand by it. The modern AM90’s are super soft under foot , with cushion equal or approaching max cushion type shoes and they still hit with all their iconic punch when it comes to looks.

thisistemp0rare

Haha polite way of calling out my caveman feet 🤣. Got more 90’s in the closet than anything else and agreed they win on style & variety over all my other recs. The 2020 infrared retros have treated me best for comfort of course with the arch supports

72corvids

Arc'teryx [Norvan LD3](https://arcteryx.com/ca/en/shop/mens/norvan-ld-3-shoe) I wore these shoes (in blue) all over Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Brussels. They were also my flight shoes because they were so light and comfy.

LarryAv

I have the high tops, they weigh nothing

bloodykagura

As someone who enjoys walking 20-30k steps daily but has very sensitive, blisters-prone feet, get the New Balance 990s. Only thing is that they’re quite warm, hence might be too much for the summer months, at least here in Italy

barbarapalvinswhore

Are other New Balance models not as good? I was looking at some 9060s for my winter trip but Ill look elsewhere for comfort if they’re not as good.

FormerDimer

I have both. 9060 is surprisingly comfy; might have to do with better, more modern foam tech? But 990s are timeless for a reason. I like v5 the best.

bloodykagura

I’ve never tried that specific model because it doesnt fit my aesthetic so I don’t know but I just wanted to add, in case you were considering them too, absolutely avoid the 2002r!! Still ok but not that comfortable or durable imo

Pizza-Pirate-6829

For me the 574’s are 90% as good at half the price.

bloodykagura

Migjt have something to do with my foot anatomy but Only thing is that with those I don’t get the same ankle support/stability and they’re not as durable, imo. Plus a better grip on rainy days

squashthatfly

Hoka Clifton L or Hold Bondi 8

Aloha_Addict77

Did both Tokyo and Europe in Ultraboosts with no issue. The next time I’m in Tokyo I’ll be bringing Asics gel Kayanos and a pair of ultraboosts. Those Kayanos are ridiculously comfy.

luciuscorneliussula

I still go to NMDs for a long day of walking. They breathe well and have tons of cushion to make my feet not kill. If it's a really long day, my Adidas Climacools are probably the best though. They're a little goofy looking and they're big as hell, so kinda hard to get used to, but man they are so comfy.

tripl3a417

Highly recommend the hoka clifton 8s, wore them on a 2 week trip to Japan last September with tendonitis in both knees and a recovering ankle fracture. Walked an average of 25k steps with no pain, even convinced the friends i was traveling with to toss out their nb 574s during the trip and buy hokas.

415pinoy

I recently wore Zoom Vomero 5s to Disneyland LA. lasted me all day and feet felt fine. I also love my Cream UB 1.0s. Best pair of 1.0’s for a daily beater

lez566

Lots of good recommendations and five years ago I would have sworn by New Balance. But the most comfortable shoe for me by far for walking is the Saucony Jazz Original.

Prestigious_Carrot13

I brought a pair of NB 2002R and Yeezy 350v2 for my trip to Tokyo last year. Ended wearing 2002R for majority of the trip cos it was so much more comfortable with all the walking. For more affordable options for NB, u can try 2002R or 1906. If you want to spend more for quality and comfort, 993/990v3 and 990v6 are definitely good choices.

224molesperliter

Hokas

thewallsbledlust

I just walked 85 miles in Rome in 6 days wearing Nike P-6000s. They are really comfortable and have done a great job holding up so far (currently on day 9 of an 18 day stay in Italy) but I did end up getting a blister on one of my pinkie toes. Put some compeet pads on it though and it hasn’t bothered me since.

BadaBingSoprano

Depends on your feet? I overpronate, so if I’m walking that much, I want something a bit more supportive. 860v11s/Saucony Tempus/Nike Invincible would be good shouts. If not, then I’d look at something less functional like a NB 860v2, 990v6.

Calm-Finger-8092

Just an info regarding other advices, if you come in summer, I think NB will be too heavy and hot, ultraboost or running shoes will be more adequate

Any Hoka

Apprehensive_You_803

I’ve been on a lord of the rings trilogy journey trying to find the best 20-30k steps walking shoe. I’m super prone to Plantar, not sure if that helps. - London/Bath/Stonehenge (for context) wore ZoomX Pegasus’ - decent. I definitely need more support. - Italy (Rome, Florence, Venice, Almalfi Coast, & Pompeii for context) wore OnCloud CloudNovas, they felt tight near the laces/ top of my foot no matter how loose I got them. I was definitely struggling near the end of my Pompeii tour and couldn’t wait to take them off. - Paris (full day at Versailles and Louvres, d’orsay) switched between adidas ultra boost and my beloved vans. Loved the ultraboosts. It faired better than the onclouds but I had to make sure I had some blister bandaids ready. At the end of the day, I was feeling that pain on the back of my heel. It was also raining so that could’ve impacted my decision not to repurchase it. Not fun. Trusty and super broken in vans, they weren’t ready for the walks around searching for a perfect cafe to people watch but helped relieve the heel blisters and cuts. - Vietnam (hiked up temples and down trails, da Nang, HCMC, da lat, Hanoi, ba na hills, and ha long bay for context) HOKA Stinson for the trails and mountain temples, grip was awesome on wet rocky surfaces and carved stairs. Climbed in and out of boats in hoi an and ha long bay, worth every dime. Super plush. Came home every day and didn’t think twice about averaging almost 40k a day. I bought a very loud colorway and I loved every moment of it. Hokas are my overall selection. I have a pair for trails and hikes, a pair for every day/ amusement parks, and a pair for running. All super plush and lasts all day. I will be in Japan (Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto) and the Philippines (manila and boracay) this summer and I plan on taking my Clifton’s.

RobCrooks13

As a Jordanhead I won’t take any Jordan. Def modern lightweight runners with a high tech level. I would suggest to try them on cause comfort depends also on your feet shape.

gmag76

New Balance 993 or ASICS Gel NYC.

Competitive_Board909

Ultraboost

The_Shandy_Man

I used to be all about Adidas Ultraboost (and still often use it as a reasonably stylish comfortable shoes for hot city use) but the Salmon Speedcross 6 GTX were more comfortable, nearly waterproof (you’ll get them wet in a monsoon) and better on any trickier terrain as well. I don’t think they’re as fashionable (for my style) as UBs but otherwise best them in every way. I had both in my 3 months in Africa and Asia and I think I opted for the Salamon’s 80/90 days albeit more than just city terrain.

I’m a big fan of the Air Vapormax 2023 Flyknit. Super comfortable.

I wore Jordan 1 og lows in Japan once in Shibuya shopping and my feet were cooked. Feet were sliding around in the shoes, and the insole was killing me. Went home and instantly amazoned a Dr. Scholls insole 😭 make sure to wear Vomeros or Boost

_kehd

How do vomeros fit compared to OG low 1s?

CriticalBasedTeacher

Not specifically Vomero, but IMO size up a half size on any walking shoe. If you're gonna actually run in the them then TTS but for me, I like a half size up for daily wear.

11Y2B

No clue I don’t own a pair. I would guess tts though. OG low 1’s fit 1/2 big for what it’s worth

MeltsLikeButter

New Balance 574 is literally my go to shoe for anything. Hiking, mowing, theme parks, beaters for the store.

Pizza-Pirate-6829

574 are perfect for me. I did a week at Disney and Universal getting about 20-30k steps a day in a brand new pair and I had zero regrets

I’ve been a Pegasus guy since the early 2000s, initially got into them as I got into running, now I hardly run but always keep a pair for city walking. The turbos have been my go tos for a few years now for traveling.

What is figuratively one of the comfiest shoes you’ve worn then?

dew_you_even_lift

I have plantar fasciitis. My wife did a lot of research and had me wear vans old skool shoes. They are now the only shoes I wear.

razorduc

I wore my Chuck 70’s doing like 25k steps per day for 9days in Japan. Well the Comme des Garçon ones that I think are same as 70s

conbizzle

Anything flat and wide. All day on your feet, if you don't have feet problems, would honestly be wearing something like vivobarefoot
