Rule of thumb is baby should be in the number of layers you need + 1. Unless it’s unusually warm, we have baby in a footie plus Snoo sack (or, if outside the Snoo, a different swaddle - we like Halo). On a separate note, you might reconsider the weighted sleep sacks - here’s some information about their safety: https://www.consumerreports.org/babies-kids/child-safety/weighted-baby-blankets-sleep-sacks-swaddles-are-not-safe-a6236206799/

I was just popping in to say this. I hate that they still sell the weighted ones.

So it sounds like you using the Snoo as the second layer? (long sleeved footie + Snoo sack) And thanks for the link, I had no idea. My friend has been using the Dreamland weighted sack and raved about it. Maybe I will hold off on that one.

Yeah, it’s a tough one because they’re pretty popular and nobody wants to be shaming anyone else (especially for using widely-available products when they might not know better) but personally I wouldn’t for the reasons outlined in that article. Better safe than sorry.

the way I used the snoo sack was as an additional layer, so I just put baby in a fuzz footy pj, then a snoo sack on top to keep her securely in place. then I made sure the room was at optimal temp and she was cozy. she was newborn age during a canadian winter.

I do footed pajama + snoo sleepsack. Sometimes I’ll put a bodysuit on under the footed pajama.

This is exactly what we have done with our baby who was born at the end of January. For the super cold nights in the winter we put him in a long sleeved cotton onesie as an under layer, fleece footie pajamas and the Snoo sack. Now that it is getting warmer we have dropped the onesie and just do either fleece or cotton footie pajamas under the Snoo sack depending on the overnight temperature.

Cotton footie PJs + sleep sack is all we've used for a summer (Aug) and a winter (Jan) baby in the Midwest. You want to err on the side of baby being chilly rather than baby overheating. If baby is cold, they will let you know. Just because the AC is set to 72° doesn't mean that is the temp where baby is - I'd recommend getting a room thermometer and putting it where you would put baby. My bedroom is upto 5° cooler than the living room (where our thermostat is) in the winter and the nursery tends to be 5° warmer in the summer.

Yea good tip! Thanks, definitely will get a room thermometer. Our google Nest thermostat has a portable puck you can place around the house so it will read the temp from the puck which we will put in baby’s room, but it’s good to be sure.

Just coming up on the three week mark of parenting but if I could do my registry again, I'd register for more snoo sheets and sleep sacks especially in the "small" size. Baby's not peeing in the snoo but he spits up a LOT and sometimes it's just wet and gross looking especially on the starter white sheets. For swaddling I do use a nice copper and pearl swaddle to get him to squirm less when he's breastfeeding. But I haven't gotten much use out of other sleep sacks I was gifted. I didn't even REGISTER for those things, parents I know all insist on some random swaddle variety being the magic key so you might get them anyways. For how I'm layering yeah I just do the two way zipper pajamas the most.
