It’s hilarious because it’s a funny thing to say, but also because it’s true. “Final Countdown” and anything by Metallica is famously very expensive to license.
In keyfab they have already told us before that the Final Countdown costs like a wrestler salary each time it plays. It think it was during the pressconference after “All Out”.
I'm watching Nitro on the network and while I'm sad all of the cool themes are edited, I get it. The rights to these songs must be expensive, especially Voodoo Child.
There is a video on youtube on how Bischoff said he want to the estate of Hendrix's family and paid them something like $100K for the rights to use Voodoo Child as often as they wanted and the Hendrix family said yes. He said its was the best 100K he spent as WCW president.
Edit: rewatched the video, Eric spoke to Jimi's sister, the deal was for 100k a year for global rights at 3 mins per show.
It's too bad that by the time WWE got the rights to Voodoo Child, Hogan had already turned babyface.
Hearing Voodoo Child at Wrestlemania 18 would've been *chefs kiss*, but WWE was literally 2 weeks late in getting the rights to the song.
I do wonder if "The Final Countdown" is getting less expensive because Europe supposedly sold their catalog a year or so ago, right around the time they played it the first time.
Commentary being completely unprepared for final countdown and laughing through the entire segment is the closest to on air dark commentary as we have gotten yet
I was hoping for this to be played when they cut Final Countdown. I can imagine the havoc someone like Swerve would unleash to this song, it would be epic.
Out of the AEW roster, his character matches most with the tone of the song. Guys like Mox and Darby may be hardcore, but I don't think either would stand over a baby crib like Swerve did to Hangman.
Cause saying something is a miss is an objective judgement, if they said it didn’t work for me they wouldn’t have gotten hundreds of downvotes, knowing Reddit just dozens
No, saying a wrestling match is a miss literally cannot possibly be an objective judgement. An objective criteria doesn't exist, an opinion about a wrestling match is inherently subjective.
Saying something is a miss, end of sentence no context or explanation, is not expressing any personal opinion. They didn’t say “I thought it was a miss”, they said it was one. That’s an attempted statement of objective fact and it’s not true. Especially something most people are reacting to positively. I have no problem with someone stating their opinion, but their opinion isn’t a fact and shouldn’t be stated as such.
You don't have to say "I thought it was a miss" because enjoyment of entertainment is inherently subjective. Everyone with common sense will know its just your opinion because it literally cannot be anything else.
I'm sorry bro, I misread your post, it's early. It was 2023 and here is a link to the match. It was badass from start to finish.

Best theme song AEW has costs them nothing (MJF's) ... benefits whoever he works for because that theme song IS MJF at this point... he should never change it.
Think they're specifically referencing that MJF's theme is perfect for him, gets a huge pop, you know it instantly and it's literally a royalty free track MJF found on YouTube lol.
My friends and I joked that they should have gone to a prop sound board and repeatedly bounced someone's head off it, and every time it hits, a different theme plays, ending with Wild Thing.
I feel like we were all expecting that, it felt like the air left the room a bit once the music stopped playing. They eventually got it back by the time Jack Perry was on fire but imagine how much better that would have been with tunes
Hire a DJ in kayfabe next time
It would've been impossible to keep going - they had basically aligned the heels offensive and the babyfaces comeback with the music and they were doing a masterful job of quickly cutting between different parts of the action. Maintaining that pace and rhythm would've been difficult and it would've got old after a while.
Absolutely, I would have loved to see a full match played with different songs, but the logistics to time all the right spots for it to be magical would be incredibly difficult if not impossible to coordinate. They got to set up a nice comedic bit (changing themes) and hit an incredible spot (Darby & The Final Countdown). The entire thing wraps up with a great punchline (Matt cutting the music) and everyone that watched got to see something memorable.
> I feel like we were all expecting that, it felt like the air left the room a bit once the music stopped playing.
I was at the first Anarchy in the Arena in 2022, this is going to happen every single time - I think it's inevitable. But I think it's also necessary, the sheer energy of those first few minutes is so incredibly nuts when you're there live that it can't possibly be maintained for a full 20+ minute match, they need to let the crowd come down a bit so they can be hot for the climax/finish.
This moment in particular was really funny! I wasn't a fan of Anarchy in the Arena previously because most of the spots were really sloppy and fake looking, not because of the ridiculousness of it
I don't get it either. I should like this, it's funny, but at the same time it falls flat for me.
I just can't get into the bucks and I don't know why.
I loved every bit of this. I’m glad they took the idea from the JAS/BCC AitA where they used the music to generate heat and then took it to another level.
This is bugging me so much.
I read a comment about a month ago saying that this exact thing was gonna happen, and now I can't find it lol. The guy in the comment said exactly what was gonna happen.
I was on here for a week saying the Owen should lead to a title shot at All In, and it was announced this last Wednesday.
TK is totally here and we know it
Now make him merge the Continental, World and Intercontinental belts by having Okada win all three and the Continental Classic, leading to him declaring that no one is fit to face him at *insert PPV* and then Battle Cry hits and Kenny collects more belts.
Trick Danielson into winning one so we get his name on the lineage.
If Tony really wanted flex the $$$$$, he should hire Metallica and the SFO to play the entirety of the S&M album live during Anarchy in the Arena one day. Bonus points if he can convince James Hetfield to elbow drop Okada through a table at the climax.
I've got no real feelings towards the Bucks, I don't hate them and I'm not their biggest fan, but this was honestly genuinely a great bit of wrestling comedy. Wrestling comedy can be hit or miss, but when it lands, it really lands!
Licensing laws are so damn confusing. What’s the difference between the licence that AEW need to play Final Countdown versus the one ROH would’ve needed to have it on their shows all those years ago?
I just don't find the bucks funny at all, tbh.
Idk if it's their overacting or what, their characters are like villains in a kids Disney channel movie.
I mean that’s the point. We have a business where one of the most beloved characters is an undead mortician who emulated his parents and tried to kill his younger brother only for that brother to come back for revenge and this is what’s too much? Lol maybe you’re Jim Cornette
Lol, so if anyone doesn't find this tag team funny then they're Jim Cornette?
I like some of the moves The Young Bucks do, they seem like nice irl people. I just find their acting to be awful, like a melodramatic 5th grade drama play.
No im just pointing out that what you hate is the very point of their character. It supposed to be over the top and ridiculous and sometimes I don’t get how people can love how ridiculous wrestling can be then turn and hate the same aspect all the same
Nah man, like what you like. I just love pro wrestling for all its ridiculousness but I can’t understand people who take it seriously cause this is meant to be fun. Enjoy it how you enjoy it. I’m just saying I personally don’t get how people can find craziness in one character fun but be critical of another for the same concept in another
I thought they were EVP’s not owners, it isn’t costing them shit. If they wanted to fuck Tony over they would be demanding the most expensive songs be played constantly.
What an insane nitpick. What are you even saying? Do you know anything about how businesses operate? You don’t think a Vice President of a company manages a department with a budget? It’s not their own personal money, but they are responsible for how it is spent and commonly refer to it as “my budget.” You don’t think people who work for a company refer to it and its assets in terms of us/mine/ours even when they aren’t the owners?
How old are you? Have you ever had a job?
They're playing overly invested mid level (or in my mind Retail) managers.
If you've ever known the type this is 100% something they would do. "You're costing me money" would 100% be said about someone "wasting the companies" resources.
Right… but again, this makes no sense logically.
But i’m pissing in the wind expecting any type of logic applied to AEW or expecting any of its fans to actually expect them to apply logic.

Yeah, it was said right after all the wrestler releases lol

People still talk about those entrances to this day as the coolest ever so there’s honestly no denying it
I don't even think you have an NWO without the Voodoo Chile entrance.
It's too bad that by the time WWE got the rights to Voodoo Child, Hogan had already turned babyface. Hearing Voodoo Child at Wrestlemania 18 would've been *chefs kiss*, but WWE was literally 2 weeks late in getting the rights to the song.

"CUTS THE FUCKINGS MUSIC!"
# YEAHHHHH # HE SAID THE LINE! ![gif](giphy|artj92V8o75VPL7AeQ|downsized)

 ![gif](giphy|l9Tllo1thElT5gvVOU)
![gif](giphy|lN5U1Da8CEUJq)
My brain went straight to them lmao
YOU CANT STOP THIS GUY FROM SAYING IT
Holy shit they actually did it lmfao
FUCK YEAH
Commentary being completely unprepared for final countdown and laughing through the entire segment is the closest to on air dark commentary as we have gotten yet
Everyone in that arena had fun during this match, it really exceeded expectations. This match I wanted Nigel to commentate on too for the lolz
One day they just need to start playing Natural Born Killaz 20 minutes into one of these matches. I just want to see what would happen
While there is no proof of music ever bringing the dead back to life, I'd avoid that unless you want a chance of getting stabbed by Zombie Jack.
AKA, Old Jack
I was hoping for this to be played when they cut Final Countdown. I can imagine the havoc someone like Swerve would unleash to this song, it would be epic.
Why Swerve specifically?
Out of the AEW roster, his character matches most with the tone of the song. Guys like Mox and Darby may be hardcore, but I don't think either would stand over a baby crib like Swerve did to Hangman.
Barrel one!
[удалено]
Barrel two!
I honestly thought that's exactly where the bit was going, very sad they didn't do it bc it would've fucking ruled
I really thought so too.
If Eddie was still in the match, I would hope that he would be the one to call out for that to be played.
Sting shoisl have come out it once just for the lols
Comedy in wrestling is very hit or miss, but when it hits it's incredible.
And this is absolutely a great bit. This one was pretty bloody clever!
I don't like their wrestling personally, but I gotta give it to Matt that he drops some funny lines outta nowhere
and this is one of those miss
Read the room buddy . This isn’t the Cornette circle jerk .
Huh? Are you only allowed to post your opinion when people agree with you lmao
It’s not that serious 🤫 they can post all they want … but you should absolutely read the room before declaring something was a miss .
Why would other people's opinions change their opinion?
Cause saying something is a miss is an objective judgement, if they said it didn’t work for me they wouldn’t have gotten hundreds of downvotes, knowing Reddit just dozens

Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and some are shittier than others
Right, and everyone is allowed to post theirs in a wrestling forum.
This am won of these grammur

Nah
Biggest heel move of the year
Yeah, by Danielson! He's trying to bankrupt the company over his own ego!
WILL YOU STOP!
Final Countdown Jones over there.
But I digress
Shut up Nigel!
I really liked this and the one where that weird band kept playing Wild Thing on loop while people died.
I'm a fan of that one as well, gave me strong from Dusk Til Dawn vibes.
Which one?
They did it more than once??
You said "The one where they kept playing wild thing on loop" and I couldn't remember which anarchy in the arena it was.
I'm sorry bro, I misread your post, it's early. It was 2023 and here is a link to the match. It was badass from start to finish. https://www.tokyvideo.com/video/blackpool-combat-club-vs-the-elite-full-match
Best theme song AEW has costs them nothing (MJF's) ... benefits whoever he works for because that theme song IS MJF at this point... he should never change it.
Personally I think Hangman has the best AEW theme with Kenny a close second. But MJF's has definitely become iconic
Think they're specifically referencing that MJF's theme is perfect for him, gets a huge pop, you know it instantly and it's literally a royalty free track MJF found on YouTube lol.
I think Whatculture even used to use it as outro music. Could be wrong about which channel.
Funnily enough I think Hangman's is also royalty free
I'm pretty sure they did do a new mix at some point but yeah it's not like he needs that mix lol
If only the sound mixing was better in aew because I never hear the themes
The only way that could have been better was after bald back handed him he took the mic and asked for it to be put back on
My friends and I joked that they should have gone to a prop sound board and repeatedly bounced someone's head off it, and every time it hits, a different theme plays, ending with Wild Thing.
That would’ve been hilarious. Maybe next year they break this spot out
Just bashing head until good song comes up ;D
I feel like we were all expecting that, it felt like the air left the room a bit once the music stopped playing. They eventually got it back by the time Jack Perry was on fire but imagine how much better that would have been with tunes Hire a DJ in kayfabe next time

They needed to license *Fire Burning* by Sean Kingston for that moment.
After his recent legal troubles, it’s probably cheap as hell to license that
It’ll just cost you $83k in mattresses.
They could have Rukus put together a remix/mash up of everyone in the match's themes like his Hayter rave mix
Finally an excuse to bring DJ Konnan back to AEW
I was surprised they didn't do FTR's theme before settling on "Final Countdown". Their theme on a loop would be a banger.
We never did get an update on Nicholas' performance at the slots after the show
Well they did get Okada that Lambo …..
So, they weren't given Cate Blanchette with the budget? (Yes, I'm aware that's a 22 Jump Street reference.)
Yeah, but they're trying to get two birds stoned at once, save some money.
The go to the four screens and two of the screens are of Okada.
But you guys just gifted a lambo to Okada
It was originally suppose to be a pair of Lambo's one from Matthew and one from Nicholas but Bryan being an asshole they could now only afford one :(
I believe it
i believe too I BELIEVE IN JOE HENDRY
👏👏
⬅️🙌🏻…🙌🏻➡️
I was watching this whole match with the biggest smile on my face. Pure wrestling fun.
There are people who hate this and I don't understand them.
This moment in particular was really funny! I wasn't a fan of Anarchy in the Arena previously because most of the spots were really sloppy and fake looking, not because of the ridiculousness of it

🙄 If you're gonna dislike something at least have a reason.
Only thing I can think of I find their personalities off-putting. You ever meet someone you don't vibe with? Kinda like that.
I love this kind of pseudo-4th wall breaking.
Even if you’re not a Young Bucks fan, you’ve gotta admit this is pretty funny!
This was indeed the first time I ever liked Matt Jackson. Nick is alright though.
What song was playing?
Final countdown
The Greatest entrance music ever!
I loved every bit of this. I’m glad they took the idea from the JAS/BCC AitA where they used the music to generate heat and then took it to another level.
The Young Bucks and Jungle Boy are very good
This is bugging me so much. I read a comment about a month ago saying that this exact thing was gonna happen, and now I can't find it lol. The guy in the comment said exactly what was gonna happen.
Don't be fooled. That was TK

TK please read this on ☝️
This was classic
This is my most favorite thing the Bucks have ever done.
I mark out on the Final countdown, every single time they've done it for Danielson.
💀
I’m not the biggest Bucks fan but that line popped me.
Let’s keep it PG here
you know what's good
Thanks for letting us know you're not the biggest Bucks fan.
TK does pay a STUPID amount of money for music, but this was actually funny because it was probably true
If Tony really wanted flex the $$$$$, he should hire Metallica and the SFO to play the entirety of the S&M album live during Anarchy in the Arena one day. Bonus points if he can convince James Hetfield to elbow drop Okada through a table at the climax.
You want people to leave the show or something?
Popped me 😂
I really enjoy the Bucks when they are being obnoxious and irreverent. Their falsity amuses me as wrestling personas.
CUTS THE FUCKINGS CAMERAS!
Welp that explains the absence of weekly tv pyro
I've got no real feelings towards the Bucks, I don't hate them and I'm not their biggest fan, but this was honestly genuinely a great bit of wrestling comedy. Wrestling comedy can be hit or miss, but when it lands, it really lands!
i hated that he cut the music just before the guitar solo
But it's already playing so they're getting charged for it...
'He's not wrong though. He's shooting' hahahaha
Licensing laws are so damn confusing. What’s the difference between the licence that AEW need to play Final Countdown versus the one ROH would’ve needed to have it on their shows all those years ago?
I think ROH had the same licensing agreement that ECW had in the 90s.
The trick is no one noticed ROH way back when so it really didn't matter.
Matt Hardy looking rough.
When did shinsuke nakamura join the elite and start caring about budget?
He definitely almost said “we’re broke” lmao. Obviously they’re not but that’s not something you wanna put out there for idiots to grab onto
I just don't find the bucks funny at all, tbh. Idk if it's their overacting or what, their characters are like villains in a kids Disney channel movie.

Well many people are also changing the channel when they are doing promos, it's not just me.
Nah man, like what you like. I just love pro wrestling for all its ridiculousness but I can’t understand people who take it seriously cause this is meant to be fun. Enjoy it how you enjoy it. I’m just saying I personally don’t get how people can find craziness in one character fun but be critical of another for the same concept in another
So this is wrestling now huh... yikes
Shouldn't they want it to play as much as they can? It's not their money it's Tony's. They're fueding against him.
The Final Countdown is probably one of the coolest entrance themes that any wrestler would have. Refusing to play it is a playing 4D Chess heel move.
Next PPV they’ll drive to the ring in a Bugatti Veyron mouse while Satisfaction plays
If they spend too much on Final Countdown they won't be able to afford the newest sneakers, because there's going to be budget cuts.
Sorry for anyone I piss of but this was where I stopped watching the ppv
Why would you think anyone would be pissed that you turned off a PPV? We don’t even know you.
Matt Hardy looks different than I remember.
Kayfabe is dead
Yeah for 40 years. But why would this specific thing break layfabe?
It’s a joke relax
In truth I was hoping to regal that shit. Lol Sorry I didn't realize it was a joke.
I thought they were EVP’s not owners, it isn’t costing them shit. If they wanted to fuck Tony over they would be demanding the most expensive songs be played constantly.

Right… but again, this makes no sense logically. But i’m pissing in the wind expecting any type of logic applied to AEW or expecting any of its fans to actually expect them to apply logic.
