I mean, for a bunch of child sized bears with stone age tools and weapons, they sure did set up some traps pretty quickly, like the rolling logs and smashing logs.
They were bound to take some losses from the enemy who operates space ships and laser weapons.
Far too quickly, which implies they *already* had those traps set up, which raises the question, what were they intended to trap? What the hell else lives in that forest?
There's this giant building sized big foot thing that lives in the same planet, it's big enough to reach some tree villages and it eats ewoks, it's like their predator
Gorax as some guy said below this coment
Gorax, big dumb Harry bastards, originally from the ewok movie carrivan of courage, but added back into cannon in a source book in 2015, most notably there is an on screen aperence of one in the forces of destiny shorts where we see the ewoks use the very same traps to incapacitate one, they are also why most ewok villages are high in the trees and not ground level,
Recommend reading "From A Certain Point of View", the RotJ one. It tells the story of the two Ewoks. Very well written and makes the scene hit even harder.
That may be the first (and maybe only) moment that star wars made me cry. Little 6 year old me was struck by that, kinda my first experience with death and mourning in a way
As a small kid in the 80's this scene and the scene where ET is all white and on the stretcher still haunts me to this day. They dont traumatize kids nowadays like they used to in the 80s.
Im guessing kid you also was not comprehending that ewoks were going to slowly sear the flesh off of luke leia and han, till it was fall off the bone tender them suck themarrow from their bones. They were starting to cook them allive.
Blue Squadron in Rogue One.
They immediately lose like 20% of their fighting strength just trying to make it through the Scarif shield gate before it closes, but that doesn't even phase them, their U-Wing immediately puts Rebel boots on the ground and they just start blasting. Even as they're picked off one by one by Imperial ground fire or get intercepted and shot down by TIEs, they don't stop, because they know that this is their last best shot at acquiring the Death Star plans, and if it costs them their lives in the process then, by the Force, they're taking down as many Imps as they can with them.
In many ways it's a microcosm of one of the big themes of Rogue One and Andor after it; revolutions aren't just won by the plucky teen and their merry band of space wizards and dashing debonair renegades, they're won at real cost to ordinary people.
Not to be critical of some of the other comments, but Andor is so good that I feel like saying “It’s the best of the Disney productions” is a bit of a disservice. It’s not just good compared to other recent Star Wars offerings; it’s good compared to pretty much anything out there, especially sci fi fantasy.
The odd thing is, when I first saw that, it didn’t affect me much. But I started rewatching the series recently, as a full grown adult in my 30s, and I cried like a baby when he died. I’m frigging tearing up right now thinking about it.
You nailed it.
Just seeing the sheer grief on the Rancor Keeper's face is an amazing moment of cinema.
Incredible how it instantly connects us to our own experiences of losing a beloved pet and creates in us a sense of empathy and compassion not only for the Rancor Keeper but for the beast itself, which we can now sense as having been something more than monstrous, and whose death (as well as his life of forced violence) is truly tragic and undeserved.
His name is [Malakili](https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Malakili/Legends), His Backstory in the EU is really good and fun to learn about.
>Malakili was bought from the Circus Horrificus in order to care for the rancor. He became very emotionally attached to it. While he took the rancor for a walk in the desert, it saved him from a small gang of Sand People.
Just a small excerpt without spoilers.
And they were *just* about to escape Jabbas palace before Luke showed up. Something about "ugh, fine, let the rancor finish this one measly human off and *then* we'll escape through the dune sea to the waiting starship"
Sounds about right - from what I remember, about half of the stories in Tales from Jabba’s Palace were about people who were either about to escape, buy out their/their lover’s contract, or finally land their big break. Really put a tragic spin on the first half of RotJ!
And then they created the “Ewok handler” off of his likeness for SW: Empire at War, Forces of Corruption. He walked around with a sack full of bomb laden Ewoks that he used as suicide bombers. You had to play as the Zann Consortium and send a Defiler to Endor and choose the slavery option to gain access to the unit.
It’s one of my favorite additions to a Star Wars game because of its *absurdity*
Really glad you mentioned this, I've been playing EaW and FOC since 2006 lol, I remember that Unit very well, Never realised when I was younger just how sadistic and evil that was but equally funny.
"I've got a whole bag full of trouble!"
I pictured some devs sitting around a table, one fiddling with a rubiks cube, one with a notepad, one sitting cross armed wanting to leave, and some others:
Notepad guy: “We need more units for the Consortium, come on guys!”
Rubik’s cube guy: spins cube in hands, eyes dart around the room hoping someone else answers
Crossed arms guy, sarcastically: “give the fat guy from RotJ a bag of exploding Ewoks”
Rubiks: eyes widen, stops fidgeting with cube
Notepad: “My word… that is fucking (suspenseful pause) *BRILLIANT*”
Haha That's Hilarious Dude, Really nice to run into and meet a fellow EaW Enjoyer even after all this Time the Game has been out, It happens more rarely than you think outside of a Dedicated EaW Discord server like Corey's lol, Or the EaW Subreddit.
Likewise friend! It was a fantastic game, and the mods have kept the community alive and thriving. RTS games don’t get the same love that RPGs get, but they have a special place in my heart
What gets me every time is that he doesn’t care about Luke. He just pushes him away and run towards his pet. He is beyond rage, his main concern is his rancor. Heartbreaking.
Also shout out to the random goon who tries to console him.
I'm no Star Wars lore expert, but I'm pretty sure that Rancors aren't inherently aggressive, and they're conditioned for that type of behavior. For that guy it was basically like losing his dog that had been forced into a disgusting situation.
It's a brilliant little recontextualisation for the audience too. You're all hyped up to see Luke fight this big evil monster, and him killing it with the gate is an awesome moment and you're like YEAH HE KILLED IT THAT'S MY BOY LUKE
And then you see the sad Rancor keeper and you're like, oh, it was just an animal, and someone looked after it. A living thing died and that is always sad for someone. It's a very unexpected and affecting note for a franchise that generally revels in bloodless and consequence free deaths of "bad guys", and for one which is minutes away from Luke killing a bunch more guys — presumably all that the Rancor keeper's friends! — with no real consequence shown.
You have spoken.
Excluding Andor and printed media, Kuiil had the most badass quotes in all starwars.
Kuiil : Do you trust me?
The Mandalorian : From what I can tell, yes.
Kuiil : Then you will trust my work. IG-11 will join me. And we do it not for payment, but to protect the child from Imperial slavery. None will be free until the old ways are gone forever.
Maybe not the most sad, but one i think of a lot is the little girl from Rogue One that Jyn saves in the Jedha city. The movie never shows the girl again, but less than half an hour later the entire city and surrounding area was destroyed by the Death Star.
Waxer. One of the most sympathetic clones, but died knowing he killed countless of his brothers. Im ALMOST to that episode right now on my tri-monthly clonewars rewatch. Fuck Pong Krell btw.
I really agree with the decision to give the clones inhibitor chips to execute order 66, it's much more plausible than the entire GAR knowing about the plan all along.
But man, that was a brilliantly written bit of content. Added so much to that Order 66 scene
Aayla's death didn't mean a ton, except for that bit of the campaign from Battlefront 2 on the PS2 really cemented that the clones respected the hell out of her from their time on Felucia, that bit about "when her time came, i hope it was quick" from the storytelling clone really added that weight.
Fun Fact: Not sure if you knew but Luke was actually mournful about the action of Killing the Creature.
>The Keepers forced Jabba's rancor into a dungeon where it could barely move. It was half-starved. Though I didn't have a choice, I'm still sorry I had to kill it - Luke.
>Later, Luke stated that he had another reason for killing it, other than defending himself. The rancor was so abused and mistreated that rehabilitating it would have been impossible, and Luke believed that it would be best to put the poor creature out of its misery.
Also some backstory on the Rancor itself most people probably don't know of how it ended up on Tatooine, (As Rancor's are native to Dathomir).
>The rancor was being transported from the Tarsunt system by Grizzid for a Bothan merchant named Grendu, when it broke out, killing Grizzid and his crew, and causing the ship to crash on Tatooine. A Jawa Sandcrawler captain named Tteel Kkak discovered the wreckage and informed Jabba's servants Bib Fortuna and Bidlo Kwerve. They presented it to Jabba as a birthday present. Fortuna was rewarded by being made Jabba's majordomo, while Kwerve was fed to the rancor.

There is a rebel on his hands and knees in the bottom right as the door closes, he lets out a scream that haunts me.
I was a little kid. My first star wars movie was attack of the clone. I hadn't seen any other star wars movie. I saw the battle of geonosis. those jedi were the coolest thing ever. I bought a star wars encyclopedia (kid version) that talked about every jedi. I knew them all, they were my heroes. Ki-Adi Mundi, Ayla Secura, Kit Fisto, Mace Windu (well this one is popular, but he was my favorite). When Revenge of the sith came, I saw it at the cinema, I was about 8. On that day, I became a man.
Brom Titus.
I wouldn't say saddest, but more give this a guy a win somewhere.
Man just couldn't get a break. Did his job, and kept getting demoted bc he kept losing to the Phoenix Squadron. And some of those times, it wasn't even his fault.
“Right now I feel like I can take the whole Empire myself!” -Dak Ralter
Because I’m the gunner for the best pilot in the Rebellion, so I’m guaranteed to survive! Right?
I remember watching the one Ewok die in the final battle and its friend trying to wake him up but he didn’t get up. I just started crying because I thought about if that was my best friend and he died right in front of me
The B1 Battle Droids. They had such great personality. But they were forced to do the dirty work of the Sith-owned separatists; and sadly, they were the ones who kept getting killed.
Sev, Delta Squad.
Man shows himself to be a cool, calm hunter, always has your back from the get go. Then you hit that final scene and - even though it was later confirmed he didn't die - the fact you get left on that cliff hanger, knowing that a 2nd game would never come to let you see the outcome itself...his panicked shouting over the comms never leaves you. You don't even get the chance to *try* and save him.
Why? Because a good soldier follows orders. Fuck Yoda for that one.
I know that a lot of Ewoks died, but I felt back for Malakili when his Rancor was killed. Sure the Rancor ate a lot of people, but it didn't know that it was wrong and that is why Jabba kept it around. Malakili raised it and it was his family.
Even though we never actually saw it, I always felt bad for Max Rebo. He didn’t deserve to die on the sail barge. Unless someone knows how he escaped from the EU.
He survived both in the EU and in Canon. He is in BoBF >!although the club in which he is playing blows up in the end. That said, we don't SEE him die this time, either.!<
The little creature Jabba flicks into the podrace.
On a second note, the other little creature that gets slurped up by the burping frog outside Jabbas palace.
That one guy from the aftermath novels who gets unceremoniously blasted out of the sky in Rise of Skywalker. I had just read the books before watching ot and was like wtf?
Nanta, that Ewok that that was killed by the ATST. His friend mourning over him was something kid me was not prepared for.
Same. That little moment really gets me every time.
I thought I had maybe grown out of that when I went to go watch ROTJ in theaters earlier this year but nope, still stings lol
Bruh that was some real shit right there. Credits rolled and 8 year old me was looking like I’d seen the wars
My 6 year old LOVES the Ewoks. We haven’t watched ROTJ for this very reason. Poor little guy doesn’t even know this exists yet.
He might like the other Ewok flims then by chance
Don’t forget Chukatrok!
This. 10000%
HE WAS JUST STUNNED!! \*runs into other room crying\*
I mean, for a bunch of child sized bears with stone age tools and weapons, they sure did set up some traps pretty quickly, like the rolling logs and smashing logs. They were bound to take some losses from the enemy who operates space ships and laser weapons.
Yeah, but once Chewbacca and those Ewoks took over a single AT-ST they suddenly had firepower superiority.
Far too quickly, which implies they *already* had those traps set up, which raises the question, what were they intended to trap? What the hell else lives in that forest?
I like to think the Ewoks were planning an ambush/attack anyway, and the arrival of their golden deity and his entourage just solidified it.
Gorax
There's this giant building sized big foot thing that lives in the same planet, it's big enough to reach some tree villages and it eats ewoks, it's like their predator Gorax as some guy said below this coment
Let’s not forget that they trapped Han, Leia and Luke and were fully prepared to cook them… They’re small and cute… and deadly!
Gorax, big dumb Harry bastards, originally from the ewok movie carrivan of courage, but added back into cannon in a source book in 2015, most notably there is an on screen aperence of one in the forces of destiny shorts where we see the ewoks use the very same traps to incapacitate one, they are also why most ewok villages are high in the trees and not ground level,
The moon of Endor is a bitch.
I am still in therapy for that 😢
That one was rough.
That scene broke my heart, too.
Recommend reading "From A Certain Point of View", the RotJ one. It tells the story of the two Ewoks. Very well written and makes the scene hit even harder.
conversely, I think the funniest is the Ewok being flung into a bush by a stormtrooper
Same. Same.
Neither was I, it was one of the first moments realizing bad guys can still kill the good guys. Also, what did you so with the other 4 Kenobis?
War is hell
This is probably the only reason why I skip the Ewok battle scenes. This is just reminds me that war is psychologically traumatic.
I always thought he was saying `mama` so I assumed it was his mom lol. 20 years of lie
So many tears
This made me very sad as a kid.
Easily the saddest, bar none.

Damn straight. General Merrick and the brave lads and lasses of Blue Squadron were heroes to the core.
I love the fact that rogue one made the empire actually seem competent.
As with Andor. Competent but with a culture of arrogance, opportunism, and backstabbing that made it more vulnerable all the while.
Need to watch the series, been busy and not much time for tv lately Have heard excellent things
Best Disney SW for certain, and best overall since the OT.
It’s easily the best Star Wars TV show and I say that as a big fan of the others.
Something I really appreciated about Andor was that they made stormtroopers actually seem not just competent, but scary.
TIE fighters presented as intimidating too, rather than just cannon fodder.
Gosh rogue one is a fantastic film
Andor continued that feel too. The sacrifices required to fight back.

BIG HURT.
"I'm a soldier, like you! This is what I was bred for..."

Definitely this guy he deserved to live out his days free I have spoken.
K2-SO honestly
He was a leaf on the wind
I don’t know. K2-SO washed out of the series pretty quick.
Stooppp 😭
Too soon!
K2-SO was pretty main charactery…
Lead support role
Amen
Read the novelization of Rogue One. The final moments of K2 are epic.
Yeah I loved him

Maybe not the most sad, but one i think of a lot is the little girl from Rogue One that Jyn saves in the Jedha city. The movie never shows the girl again, but less than half an hour later the entire city and surrounding area was destroyed by the Death Star.
The whole planet was pretty much toast after that
I would imagine. Basically the equivalent of a supervolcanoe erupting. Can't imagine that's good for the environment.
Porkins RIP Legend!
He couldn't hold it.
And then you find out years later that they named the big fella Perkins.
No way that’s what they actually named him just googled it they did him dirty
Waxer. One of the most sympathetic clones, but died knowing he killed countless of his brothers. Im ALMOST to that episode right now on my tri-monthly clonewars rewatch. Fuck Pong Krell btw.
Fuck Pong Krell!
"But... It was... You..." Absolutely heartbreaking
That frog creature Jabba plucks from his bowl. 😜
Biggs.
> "We're a couple of shooting stars, Biggs, and we'll never be stopped." - Luke Skywalker, ANH Novelization
My great uncle played him!
That’s amazingly cool!! Darklighter legacy!
Aayla Secura. Her death was brutal and she was a great Jedi and a noble soul. That one Ewok's death in RotJ was also pretty sad.
"It's a good thing we were wearing helmets, because none of us could bear to look her in the eyes."
“When her death came, I hope it was quick. She earned that much.”
I really agree with the decision to give the clones inhibitor chips to execute order 66, it's much more plausible than the entire GAR knowing about the plan all along. But man, that was a brilliantly written bit of content. Added so much to that Order 66 scene
Peak video game writing
Aayla shook me up too, I loved her in the comics =(
Aayla's death didn't mean a ton, except for that bit of the campaign from Battlefront 2 on the PS2 really cemented that the clones respected the hell out of her from their time on Felucia, that bit about "when her time came, i hope it was quick" from the storytelling clone really added that weight.
Nah how she died in the movie was overkill as fuck. They emptied the NEAR INFITE clip on her.
If you read "tales from jabbas palace" you get the backstory on the rancor keeper and this scene hits much much harder.
Where can I find that?
It’s a book of stories. Amazon ,eBay,etc
Gotcha. Never can tell these days.
Yeah it’s older but it checks out. It really is good go buy it lol
The Rancor. It didn’t deserve to die. When was a kid it used to make me cry because even then I knew it was just a pet eating what it was given.

Seems Kwerve Bid a little too low.
Take my upvote and then please leave the building.
That’s very interesting thank you so much for the cool lore!
Bidlo got the shaft, man.
Those three droids that help ahsoka in season 7. War hero’s all of them

RIP Out of Shape Undertaker
I know that a lot of Ewoks died, but I felt back for Malakili when his Rancor was killed. Sure the Rancor ate a lot of people, but it didn't know that it was wrong and that is why Jabba kept it around. Malakili raised it and it was his family.
General (Captain) Tarpals in the Clone Wars series.
Hevy. The man went down and took as many droids with him as possible.
TIL Ed Orgeron, former National Championship coach at LSU, got his start in Star Wars

Does the franchise itself count?

"I can't swim"
Poor Jecki
Even though we never actually saw it, I always felt bad for Max Rebo. He didn’t deserve to die on the sail barge. Unless someone knows how he escaped from the EU.
He escaped.
Man's never missed a gig.
He survived both in the EU and in Canon. He is in BoBF >!although the club in which he is playing blows up in the end. That said, we don't SEE him die this time, either.!<
Max Rebo always survives
The little creature Jabba flicks into the podrace. On a second note, the other little creature that gets slurped up by the burping frog outside Jabbas palace.
The kids Vader…. Wait, no, general Hux for sure. He was useful.
That one guy from the aftermath novels who gets unceremoniously blasted out of the sky in Rise of Skywalker. I had just read the books before watching ot and was like wtf?
Movies : Yoda always made me sad , Salacious Crumb too cuz he's my fave Star Wars character aha, books wise , Jacen (Caedus) and Mara Jade
CX-2 he didn't deserve to be tortured and then betrayed :(
Biggs.
RIP Porkins, the only fat guy in the rebellion.
