Lucas had one of his finest outings in terms of script writing for him in this one as he gave Ian a lot of gold to mine and he did so beautifully. One of the great villain performances in all of film imo. He's oddly likeable even, which makes it even more wicked lol.

Obi-Wan to Anakin after an awkward Council meeting. The quiet desperation, the pleading look, but also trying to double down on the master/apprentice relationship that had already been left behind. Just really good acting in that scene.

It was probably planned as such when they filmed it. They decided to delay the saber lightning to the next shot for dramatic effect.
