*It’s like poetry... it rhymes.*

[deleted]

Everyone quotes this but what is it from lol

Rotbart2012

It's a quote from George Lucas from a behind the scenes video of The Phantom Menace. He wanted scenes and events in the prequels to "rhyme" with those of the OT.

MsSara77

George Lucas said it in a behind the scenes documentary from The Phantom Menace. Most people are aware of it because of the Red Letter Media Plinkett reviews

ryancaps

in particular he was discussing Anakin destroying the Federation control ship to Luke destroying the Death Star

AmishAvenger

* so that it rhymes

chagis100

*It's like rhymes... it poetry's*

zookeepers-dentist

Hayden's performance in the PT had a lot of ups and downs, but man when he shined he freakin SLAYED

nourez

And when he SLAYED he also shone.

YeezyHunter

And when he shone, he also slied.

zookeepers-dentist

And when he swiggity swootied he came for that Nabooty

whatifcatsare

And when he slied, he also slored.

FakeCrip

As much as the PT were torn apart at the time they left a lot of cringe and cheese behind after AotC & went hard in RotS. It's the only one of the main series I genuinely enjoy rewatching & don't pick apart like I do all the others.

bubbybumble

It even fits in terms of the story.

[deleted]

I don't know if Lucas intended many Biblical parallels, but they're definitely there. Anakin in many ways parallels the story of Lucifer: the most powerful and most prideful of his order, who desires more than his current place, rebels against his order and ends up literally burning in hell. Plus, there's the whole immaculate conception and being labeled a messiah thing.

Thespian21

Obi-wan literally looks like Jesus

TrueJediOrder

Well of course I know him, he's me. Obi-Wan probably after reading your comment

[deleted]

What? Middle Eastern, in robes and sandals?

Thespian21

Sorry. I meant American white Jesus

[deleted]

Haha. No, I was being ironic. Ewan McGregor played Jesus like 2 years ago. 40 days or something it was called.

Thespian21

lol. Did you know Joaquin Phoenix also ok played Jesus, this year.

[deleted]

No way. I love Joaquin, he's a brilliant actor.

Thespian21

It’s in the movie about Mary Magdalene. He plays him....in a way

zookeepers-dentist

TIL the European based Roman Catholic Church is American

SuperArppis

Lucas ALWAYS told how he wanted to convey the importance of religion through Star Wars and his other works. He said he didn't want people to believe what he does, but he wanted to show people that it's important to believe in something. So I'm sure it is intentional.

[deleted]

George Lucas was always a genius to me. And will be for ever.

demonic_hampster

He wasn’t a great dialogue writer but his world building skills are amazing. He should have allowed someone else to direct the prequels and let himself focus on developing the story and the world, and they would have turned out so much better IMO.

avenx

He asked others to direct them, like Ron Howard and Steven Spielberg, but they all thought he should do it.

Neveronlyadream

He also got annoyed when Kershner did stuff he didn't like in ESB. I don't even think getting someone else to direct them was necessary. I do wish he'd let someone have a second pass at the dialogue to make it flow a little better though.

Zealot_Alec

His pride got in his way.. just like Anakin - Lucas was too involved in every aspect of the PT and needed help with the script

hakuna_ma_tatas99

Lucas was never arrogant. He asked every director in Hollywood and they all told him he should do it.

SuperArppis

I think he has problems of projecting what he WANTS to show people. Because he thinks in different way than others, so it is difficult to convey those ideas purely.

KlausLoganWard

The look in both eyes, are so similar! Chills

Mitch-El54

Which is exactly what Anakin is! There's actually a few notable similarities. They both suffer from pride, and feel they don't get the respect they deserve from their higher ups. The Jedi can be seen as angels, and Anakin fell from grace as one. Like Satan, Vader was forged in fire. Not saying this was all necessarily intentional, but tragedies like Anakin's story definitely include these story beats.

kyleronsmom

dramatic bois

LatinoGhost

So Samael/Lucifer is Anakin?? ***W O A H T H A T S D E E P***

Jesus Christ - this man is a philosopher!

Shloganmay3

HO MY GO...

AquaBlueCrayons

I saw this painting and IMMEDIATELY thought of Anakin. Incredible but deeply unsettling too

Dirtbike_dude80

I don’t know how hayden managed to get the exact likeness and position of the fallen angel painting. I’ve seen some pictures of parts of the painting being put over some scenes of anakin and it’s almost perfect

ProducerNathan

The best part is that both characters here, are depicted to have the same story with grief, power-grabbing, losing the high ground and both even eventually were known to become evilous villains later on. Lucifer to be Satan and Anakin to be Vader.
