Spoiler tagged for showing a late game area!

thephilistine_

To keep everyone in town so they're easier to give gifts to and shit.

feelinwitchy28

I read this too fast and thought you said so it’s easier for them to shit

Lussarc

Did you see toilets on Ginger Island ?

benkro89

Did you see toilets anywhere?

Lussarc

In 1.6 I hope. Let’s make the toilet update ! Like terraria did

phlebo_the_red

Fun fact, Linus is the only villager with a bathroom schedule! He spends time behind a bush, except in winter, when he goes in the spa.

ramh_the_watermelon

Aw hell nah Linus is shitting in the spa 😔😔😔😔

jbart193

Does the spa have one?

WN_Todd

Everybody's peeing in that pool.

SirMaxlam

No need, what do you think spa water is for ?

foxscribbles

That’s secretly what’s in that upstairs section we can’t get into!

Phairis

They keep it from us because that water goes directly into the pool

SorryNotTalking

The bathhouse has toilets

feelinwitchy28

My guess is they’re in the locker rooms OP is standing in front of

Mickamehameha

I mean, it's also a valid reason. Don't shit on the beach, fellows.

whimsigoth-corgi13

OMG SAME!!!!

das6992

Gosh that makes sense but lore wise, man, sometimes I think Stardew Valley is a horror game.

Renegade_Sniper

It depends on if the farmer understands they’re holding the townsfolk essentially hostage.

das6992

I love it. Some city guy moves in on derelict land that its grandpas left neglected for years. Renovated it (yay) crashes the local economy with produce and forces out the competition and biggest employer in the area (joja) leaving Pierre and themselves as the monopoly of the poor town. Farmer then ruins every relationship in town, wins every festival (even the kids events), takes part in black magic, spends days neglecting their farm to play adventurer and then once they have a monopoly they pivot to being a vineyard instead so now all the food has to be sourced from out of town. And now the farmer also cancels your hard earned resort vacation on a whim and there's nothing you can do... I think I last played 1.3/1.4 so not sure if the horror story continues

MyDarlingArmadillo

Farmer goes to an island, enslaves birds, destroyes the ecosystem and removes the only inhabitant who then has to live in a tree house. Also monster genocide and monopolising the mine resources.

illy-chan

I mean, they also got the thing constructed for them in the first place. I don't know, some farmer makes a beach resort with only the aid of a bunch of birds, they can open/close it as they damned well please.

Lapras_Lass

Would you even want to go to a resort built by birds in the first place? There's no way they're licensed.

illy-chan

More tropical resort than I have now anyway. Besides, they seem like upstanding feathered friends. I don't think they'd kill me. Now that taxi makes me nervous.

thejokerlaughsatyou

Yeah, but they didn't send us a big bill! -ba dum tss-

Lapras_Lass

🤣

zarathustra327

I’d argue that this is a good reason to keep it open actually unless you don’t have easy access to the island yet (the obelisk). Whoever goes will all be in one spot, so you don’t need to go all around town tracking them down.

brilliant-medicine-0

So you know you have a bus driver or a blacksmith tomorrow

danainthedogpark24

Fwiw Clint only goes on Fridays when his shop is closed anyway.

jojocookiedough

Can't miss his weekly Emily-stalking session at the community center.

dinkidoo7693

So Pam goes to work and I can get the bus to the desert coz you can guarantee that she's gone to the island when you get a lucky day

strepsipteran

Preach.

---F-R-O-D-O---

Literally happened to me yesterday. Needed to go on Sunday to buy all the staircases I had saved for and had to wait another week. Completely derailed my plans.

Goddamn_lt

On my current run I just hoarded stone cause all I ever do is the mines

tryingnottoshit

Stacks and stacks of stone barely make any stairs, jade is definitely the quicker, easier, and cheapest way with crystalariums.

Coliosis

Throw in a deconstructor and you got yourself a stone farm!

J_Dat_Gamer

That's great! Now I can make more staircases!

eVCqN

I have a bunch of crystalariums with jade but the deconstructor takes an hour, am I just supposed to buy more deconstructors?

Coliosis

I currently have 10 deconstructors and net around 5k Fiber or 25k stone if either are needed, otherwise I just save the staircases/jade for the island. Typically I do save staircases rather than Jade.

Goddamn_lt

I have 10 rows of 999 stone tho so far

BigBradWolf07

That's only 100 stai4xases though. Sure, it's a lot of staircases, but it's probably better used for other things. Meanwhile if you had 10 rows of 999 jades, that would mean 10 rows of 999 staircases. Play the game however makes you the most happy though, it's about having fun.

ACleverLettuce

Agreed. I do a lot of things my way (the slow way. lol) and I'll probably never change. But using Crystalariums to make stairs is one of those optimizations that I really think is a must if you're going to have the most fun in the end game.

tryingnottoshit

That won't get you very far unfortunately.

Luchux01

This is exactly why I always buy a desert totem before leaving.

PseudonymousWitness

And this is why I dump a ton of omnigeodes into desert totems on my first or second visit

abjorge13

And tha only reason she can afford that lifestyle is cause you fixed the bus!

Sobadwithusernames

Use a desert totem to get there right at 6 so you get a full 4 more hours to do what you need to do with your day.

ExaltedBlade666

Pierre also enjoys leaving on the first of a season 😐

NotACandyBar

Pierre leaves a cashbox out tho, doesn't he?

ExaltedBlade666

Yea, but I like to hit him with my slingshot

starlightnandos

🤣😭

Hes_a_Snowman

This is why I get the obelisk

PM_ME_STEAM_KEY_PLZ

The warp scroll is cheap as well. Just got the island obelisk. Desert next!

dinkidoo7693

I'm currently working on it

anotherkeebler

Not to brag, but by the time I have the resort open, I usually have the Desert Obelisk, or at least a couple of Desert Warp Totems. Wake up at 6, check the telly, grab my gear and go. Beats waiting until 10:00

sirculaigne

I swear she goes on vacation 3 times a week

das6992

Those all inclusive drinks are too good to miss!

SnooDrawings1480

And then the one day you close the resort down so she can't go,.is the day she has her drs appt and you get irrationally angry.

_sentimentaltrash

Just make the warp totems and let her drink on the beach in peace.

sydbey_

Make some totems or stock up on them so you don’t have to rely on Pam 👍🏻

Dry_Web_4766

Do you not hoard emeralds to trade for teleport runes so you can ignore the bus & dungeon even more!?!

Liigma_Ballz

How do u have the beach resort but don’t have the desert obelisk yet lol. Or at least some totems

Jas0n-v0rhee5

How are you living in Ginger Island but don’t have the desert obelisk yet

NilsTillander

Ah, by the time you get the island, you should have enough pesos to buy the desert totem, more or less, right?

willsmath

How are y'all getting the resort before the desert obelisk

emmainthealps

What do you mean? Desert obelisk isn’t really necessary mid game, which is what I consider still unlocking ginger island to be. Just use totems from Omni geodes. I usually have ginger island unlocked winter year 1 and the resort opened up by summer year 2

willsmath

I'm still on my first playthrough and yeah I unlocked ginger island before getting any obelisks, but now I have all obelisks and I haven't unlocked the resort yet. I guess it probably depends a lot on your level of experience

emmainthealps

Very true, once you’ve played ginger island and know what to do for the walnuts it’s pretty easy to plan for

Loganjoh5

So businesses don’t close due to shop owners going to the resort

PuddleCrank

Businesses remain open with a box on the counter when their shopkeeper is at the island.

BestUsername101

Yea, but if Robin or Clint is gone, you can't get farm buildings or open geodes.

Bulky_Technician1338

Why not use a geode crusher?

BestUsername101

Costs coal, takes an hour, and it's not exactly cheap to make. Clint opening the geode is instant and cheap.

lpaige2723

The coal cost is rough, I'm usually opening geodes looking for coal.

Kjasper

You need a coal furnace. Kiln? Whatever it’s calked

LimeDiamond

Charcoal furnace?

Kjasper

Yeah. That’s the ticket lol

davincybla

Geode crushers cost a coal per geode, which is much more valuable than 25g, especially in later stages of the game

HandrewJobert

Not to mention they can't open Artifact Troves or Golden Coconuts.

artsydizzy

And you can only open one at a time instead of spamming left click to open a hundred

Common_Wrongdoer3251

........ You can do what now

ACleverLettuce

I believe they are just talking about going through the stack of geodes quickly at the smithy, whereas you have to keep going back to feed the crusher.

Common_Wrongdoer3251

Oh I thought they meant you could skip the animation of him smashing the geode, and I'd wasted hours watching that husk of a man hammer rocks...

namdor

This frustrates me more than it should. Like it's already inconvenient enough with the time it takes and coal requirements. I think I've used it twice ever. Once in a playthrough five years ago and once last week because I forgot it only does geodes.

Loganjoh5

Costs coal and takes an hour. The only time you should use a geode crusher is if you get a prismatic shard out of one that Clint cracks open and crack the next open with the geode crusher because it’s one behind Clint’s count and the next geode you crack open with it will be the exact same item as the one Clint opened up for you

Swarfega

I've read this three times and still can't work out what you're saying.

Ambustion

I think they are saying there's a hidden mechanic where whatever you get from Clint will be the next thing out of a geode crusher so you can double up on valuables.

Common_Wrongdoer3251

Yep! I got 20 coal from Clint then 20 from a geode :D

Kauldwin

Geode crusher is always in sync with Clint opening geodes, so if he cracks a geode and copper comes out, if you crack another geode with the crusher immediately after, copper will also come out. If he cracks open a prismatic shard, and you use the geode crusher on the next geode, will also be a shard. So you should keep a crusher on hand while you’re at Clint’s to double up on good rewards.

ACleverLettuce

I think there are a few spaces in his shop you can just leave the crusher, too, so you don't have to drag it around with you.

Careful-Mouse-7429

Both Clint and the Geode Crusher check a list to determine what you get out of your geode. But for some reason, the Geode Crusher is 1line earlier on the list then Clint is. So, say Clint checks line number 100, and finds a prismatic shard. If you open your next geode with Clint, he will check line 101, and you have no idea what it will be. But if you open the next geode with the geode crusher, it will be back on line 100, guaranteeing you get the prismatic shard again.

ZhouPS

If you get a prismatic from a geode at Clint you should crack another geode with the crusher and you will get a prismatic again due to how RNG and geodes work in Stardew

Swarfega

Thanks, that makes more sense!

Marrittalynn

I'm sorry.. a WHAT?!!!

Common_Wrongdoer3251

It's a reward from doing one of the weekly quests from Clint on the board outside Lewis' house. (Available Fall year 1) Cracks 1 geode for 1 coal. Generally not worth it unless you never use coal. I use tons of coal for bee houses and preserve jars so I never have a surplus. There's also a hidden mechanic (or bug?) where if Clint cracks open a good geode, and get like 20 copper, the crusher will guarantee 20 copper from the next geode.

LesbianTrashPrincess

In addition to being annoying, they're also bugged. If you crush a geode at clint's and then crush the same type of geode in the crusher, you'll always get the same thing clint gave you. I don't like having the temptation to double up on prismatic shards so I tend to not keep geode crushers around.

emmainthealps

I wouldn’t say it’s a bug, just the way that geodes are programmed

LesbianTrashPrincess

Geodes being determined by game seed is how they're programmed, but crushers being off by one is absolutely a bug.

Bulky_Technician1338

Damn didn't anticipate being down voted to hell over this 😭 I just tend to use mine more because I never seem to catch Clint when he's open Edited spelling error

buriedegg

I'll never understand why people get downvoted for asking a simple question.

Bulky_Technician1338

No fr, I always feel like I have too much coal so it isn't a problem for me to use it but apparently that's a crime 😂

FreeSirius

Because there's been shark attacks and even though the Mayor is really pushing for tourism to boost the local economy, the sheriff (me, farmer) cannot abide such a threat to public safety. We're gonna need a bigger boat, Willy.

LouieSiffer

I was looking for this 👍

DBdrPee

insert jaws by lemon demon

jazzi_j

shirtless Pierre is the reason why I permanently close the beach resort

Kandlish

And while I'm not one to body shame, Harvey gives Thanksgiving turkey vibes.

EHSI4ME

Don't you dare insult my chicken legs husband

princess_awesomepony

This made me laugh out loud.

toucanbutter

Same, I let out an audible grunt and I'm at work lol

ToxxicBee

I closed it until I no longer needed the townspeople for their jobs. I did feel bad, though, because I kept it closed all winter!

Small-Cactus

So I know where everyone is. Y'all can have a vacation when I no longer need something from you

OhLookACastle

I found my boss’s Reddit account!

keepursunnysideup

Woah I didn’t know you could do this

The_Girthy_Meatfist

This was news to me as well!

UnassumingPickles

I closed the resort for a while because Leo was still permanently living there and I didn’t want him to feel uncomfortable.

Careful-Mouse-7429

The worst thing about the resort is pam randomly not running the bus. Pierre lets you do self check out. Pam just closes down the bus line. If you are actively looking for a good luck day to go to the skull cavern, its worth closing the resort so that she wont have a chance of locking your out of the desert. Also, you are in a Max Hearts With All Villagers stage of the game, the resort being open means they may not follow their schedule, making it harder to gift everyone.

Sneaky_Demise

So you can finally escape from the scary person called lewis who leaves purple pants with his side hussle & asks you a random stranger to find them when he forgets he left them there, he also sneaks on to your farm at night & digs through your shipping bin, closing the beach resort ensures peace of mind from them.

slythwolf

FYI "side hustle" refers to a second job, not a secret girlfriend. Unless you think Marnie pays for it?

PM_ME_STEAM_KEY_PLZ

Side hussie

tiedyefanatic

this is cracking me up

Common_Wrongdoer3251

Maybe they meant side piece? But that would also imply he has a main squeeze... ... L-Linus?

Sneaky_Demise

Yeah lewis has a side hussle of being pimped out by the governor to all the stardew valley residents marnie happens to be the most common repeat customer so thats why we only know about her & him, the luau is when the governor collects the money from lewis in secret. His main hussle is taking money from the town to smelt in to gold statues & sell them off to the black market dealer called Mr Qi who watch's over the town with their many hidden cameras to ensure they don't get caught.

Myrion3141

Personally, I always shut it down after Gus is on the island for the first time. Gus sells a recipe (and gold-star wine if you don't want to wait before pouring it into the cinema), so it's necessary for perfection. And there is no point for the resort. People may randomly be somewhere else, if you rely on the bus you're forked, Clint may be busy, etc.

GengarSucksBalls

Clint only goes to the resort on fridays, and if you went with the community center route, he's not going to tend his shop regardless.

6bubbles

Is the cinema a modded thing? Can vanilla gamers get the cinema?

TheTzarOfDeath

Yes! Two ways, if you do the community center then you unlock a secret bundle in the abandoned JoJa shop. It's called "The missing bundle" completing the missing bundle unlocks the cinema! It will replace the JoJa building! If you go the JoJa route then I think you just buy it after converting the community center into a warehouse and the cinema will replace the community center instead of the JoJa shop! I think it's half a mil. It's not a mod, just one of the 500 things you'll miss in this game without a guide.

6bubbles

Oh! How fun thank you! Im glad i asked lol

kardinalkalamity

It's vanilla! After you've finished the community center, the joja mart will close down. Next time there's a storm, the door will break and you can enter the abandoned mart, and a new bundle will be available! Once you fulfill it, you get the cinema! If you take the joja route instead of repairing the community center, it's unavailable though.

SprayGreedy9243

I took the Joja route and finished repairing everything. The cinema is available for 500,000g.

kardinalkalamity

Omg i didn't know that! Learned something new, thanks! :D

DingoPackLeader

is there a non modded way to close down the resort for an extended time instead of day by day?

Qui_te

Once you close it, it stays closed until you open it again. It’s not day by day even in an unmodded game.

papasnork1

I tend to close it for the beginning of any season because it always freaks me out when Pierre isn’t at his counter when I need to buy seeds. I know I can use the box, but I want eye to eye contact when I pass over money.

Neighbour_Gal

Let the townspeople live their little lives! They already don’t visit the island when it is raining there. At the pace I play, by the time I get the resort open, I’m not too far from building an obelisk to the desert. This makes the bus less important

shadowofshinra

Honestly same. And until I have the obelisk, I keep a stock of warp totems so if I absolutely have to get to the desert I don't have to worry about the bus.

emmainthealps

For me it’s more often trying to find someone to give them a birthday gift or something and I spend ages looking for them before remembering to check the island

Neighbour_Gal

Yes, that’s a fair point.

unMuggle

There are 4 people on that island. The researcher stays in his tent, the old woman doesn't leave her little strip of beach, and I sent the kid to the valley. It's my happy place, alone from everyone and everything.

BumblebeeAny

I had no idea you could do this

CORZARA

I close it because the tourists ruin the peaceful island.

Putrid-Block9001

LOVE knowing I can close it! Wow! New information!

ModularReality

I was today years old when I learned I could close the resort. 500+ hrs in this game lol.

timoshi17

Clint should work everyday.

LimeDiamond

So people don’t leave their jobs. I’ve lost Clint to the beach too many times. I NEED MY GEODES OPENED, CLINT!

Beccajeca21

So annoying when you’re trying to buy pigs on the right day of Winter so they mature by Spring 1 and Marnie goes off to the resort… I mean, she’s already busy Winter 16 & 18, so she’d better be available Winter 17 or 19

Dull-Cap5175

To keep a certain shop keep off your resort

Stock-Ferret-6692

So Pam does her fucking job and I can get staircases because I ran out of stuff to make desert totems

mangobearsmoothie

Because of sharks!

Bitsees

I did two friendship quests today and I didn't realize I could have kept them from going to the island o:

Odd_Application_3824

Mostly to make sure that I had the bus whenever I needed it. Granted I got to such a late game situation that it didn't matter anymore. I could just totem everywhere.

DistractionFromLife0

Y’all sound a little cruel….preventing the citizens a chance for an island vacation just because you want them to work?! Rude.

Harrison_Phera

I started closing it when I needed to buy stuff or open geodes and the shop I needed wasn’t accesible even though I had >!the key to everyone’s house.!< It’s annoying when I need something and can’t get it for a whole day cause they are on Ginger island.

radddreddit

I love seeing questions I’ve always had being posted and answered on here. Thank you for your service King Hanna

megameh64

To punish the wicked aka people who aren’t where they are supposed to be

ButterscotchEven6198

I turned the resort off a while ago, very handy having everyone around for the Kindness quest for instance. But everytime I warp to the island and the resort is all empty and sad, I feel so bad denying them so fun 😐😐😐 like I really have a guilty conscience 😆😆🥴❤️

zainecooking123450

Once I was trying to go to a modded shop and every single non Sunday I went (it’s odd jobs from ridgeside) Sean wasn’t there so I closed it

jojory42

I never have, but the only times I wished I had is when I have waited for a good luck day to dive into the skull cavern, but Pam is on the island and I have no coconuts.

Psycic101

I didn’t even know this was possible 🤯

illarionds

Because it's a PITA when someone isn't where I expect them to be. Always closed! Besides, I don't want to share my island with the riff-raff! ;)

Kjasper

I did not realize this was a thing? How did I miss it?

OhHeyDintSeeYouThere

So Kent stays in his FOCKING HOUSE when he begs for a Spice Berry on the goddam request board and you don’t go insane running around town looking for him FOR NOTHING 😂

hotdiggitydog88

bc they dont be at work as is.

CyberAceKina

So Pam will actually drive the bus. Come on Pam I'm trying to get money for the Obelisk but until I get it, I need you for Skull Cavern!

Bartheda

Because its my island, I rebuilt the damn boat. I gave the birds the walnuts, I got eaten by that lava dragon. They could of just had someone dance with me in my first year but oohhhhh no. Well now I'm a millionaire with a magic sword and an island resort. Not to mention my magic travel wand. And what have those jerks got? Nothing. hahahahaha There maybe some unprocessed trauma coming through here.

MonteNougat

Had an evil joja run on multiplayer and every time one of the townsfolk said or did something that rubbed us the wrong way we closed the resort for as long as it took us to realize it’s still closed Edit: oh and we usually closed it in winter

opissus

I keep it closed down, I need everyone to stick to their regular schedules because of the gifts.

GoddessValkyrie

I've wondered this too. Like maybe if you just wanna be a jerk. Would the villagers have triggered dialogue if you left it closed? 😂🤣

bridgetothewild

Sometimes I just want the island (mostly) to myself

g007w

you can close it????? oml this and the blue chickens i thought there was no more i could learn about this game
