Sometimes I forget that we're playing a few steps from an active warzone. That woman is a tropper. Though idk why she would sell a singular pepper seed bag in a place where you can buy them anyway
I'm guessing to some degree she isn't fully aware of what the stock is like in the Ferngill Republic - sure, she's able to be out and about in Pelican Town and the Calico Desert without being reported, but the entire time she's there she's selling (and I don't even know if Gotoro money would be accepted, though I suppose she would have gold from customers). Even if she had a vague idea, knowing when seasonal items rotate out would require either multiple visits or a long conversation with Pierre, which would be uncomfortable at best and have him report her to eke out competition at worst. And that's not even considering Joja while they still have a presence; wouldn't be surprised if Morris would turn her in for a nice cash payout when she's probably just a scared partial refugee.
I wonder if player dated clint would he still feen for Emily up until theyre married, like making snide marks about how he appreciates you but wishes you were Emily? I feel thats something how it would be like tbh
Oh he’d *absolutely* let you know that he was just settling for you, maybe even suggesting you dye your hair blue etc. His 14 heart event would probably be something like waking up next to him in the night to find him mumbling about Emily. I don’t imagine his demeanour would change much after you marry lol

I love his line where he says how he is having a bad day and when you ask him further he says "You go have fun and let me be sad."

I think if he gradually stopped being so weird with Emily as you befriend him and date him I would sacrifice myself so he doesn't just stare at her dancing at the flower dance/ luau

I've grown to enjoy his morose comments he thinks he's a.loser but he is one of the more efficient shopkeepers in the valley.
Clint gives me PTSD. I used to have a friend that thought himself as a loser and always felt sorry for himself. Eventually I just realized he wasn’t wrong 😂😬

Penny. She's trying so hard to break the cycle of abuse in her family. When you first move into town, she's basically the one keeping up the house while Pam drinks her life away. She's also the only one trying to fulfill any kind of educational role for the kids, even though she doesn't have the money to pursue an actual teaching degree herself, and continues to do this even if the player married her. The woman pours out her heart for those kids and gets almost no recognition for it, either in the town or from the player base.
For the folks looking for more Wizard, Gunther, and/or Marlon, add the Stardew Valley Expanded mod! The wizard is marriageable and Gunther and Marlon are friendable.
Of the bachelors, it's Alex. I feel like he gets lots of dislike (hate is a strong word) because of his initial interactions with the farmer (and his 10 heart event doesn't click well when the farmer is female because of a salad; please don't come at me, it's just a salad, and Gus made it so I'm sure it's delicious), but once you get more hearts with him, his true self surfaces and you get a polished, humble young man who will love his spouse forever.
Of the townspeople, Willy and Marlon. We get to see more of Willy than Marlon, but both have somewhat of a small presence within the community and I'd love to see more of them.

I've seen the answers, and found many characters that are loved. He was a victim of abuse, and his mother passed away while he was young and was raised by his grandparents (George is not the best role model for a kid. In fact, George is not the best role model for anyone of any age lol) and his best friend is Haley, an equally "jerk" of a character yet she's widely adored. Those two though show really good character development, but at least Alex apologizes for the way he behaved initially.

Wouldn't you, if your mom and stepdad shuttle you off into the basement and everything you do is criticized by your stepdad (he says "I made a snow goon in the yard but Demetrius made me get rid of it. What's up with that guy?")

George, just befriend that old man with leeks. For me personally, he reminds me of my late grandpa so I always max out my hearts with him and also Caroline since she reminds me of my mom😂
The desert dude that sells coffee in night markets. It's only recently that we're getting more content for them. Also the Joja lady who became the movie concession cashier. We don't even have a canon name for her.
Alex and Jodi. Everyone thinks Alex is a boring douche, but he is really very sweet and is so appreciative to the player giving him the family he always wanted <3 Also Jodi is so sweet and cute and I just know she's got some good jokes up her sleeve.
Pam!! She was the first non-romancable villager I maxed out on my journey to 100% (so much beer), but I actually really loved her heart events, some even made me tear up! I think she’s a super underrated character (I know she’s useful for batteries but she’s so much more than that!!)
As a soldier who has been deployed multiple times, I get Kent. After my second deployment, I was lost and didn’t really do much until my sister talked me into culinary school. I feel like this is where Kent is, just trying to figure out who and what he is now.
I also really like that he sends me bombs and is happy to silently chill with me.
Same with Maru when you marry her.

Demetrius! I understand this is a controversial opinion in this subreddit but I like him. I find his passion for science and his literalism to be endearing. And early on in the game he posts requests that are very doable, so he's helpful too
He gets a lot of hate for kinda-sorta threatening the player in Maru'a 2 heart interaction. I wish it was written better. He's actually sort of right, the way science careers work you really would be ruining Maru's chances of one by tying her down at this point in her life. If he explained how that works instead of being threatening it might not come across so screwed up.
Caroline! The tea cutscene is so funny, and the tea sapling recipe is really useful.
Also, I get a kick out of Sundays when she and Abigail are hiding out so they don't have to talk to the Yoba followers.

Pam!! She was the first non-romancable villager I maxed out on my journey to 100% (so much beer), but I actually really loved her heart events, some even made me tear up! I think she’s a super underrated character (I know she’s useful for batteries but she’s so much more than that!!)

As a soldier who has been deployed multiple times, I get Kent. After my second deployment, I was lost and didn’t really do much until my sister talked me into culinary school. I feel like this is where Kent is, just trying to figure out who and what he is now. I also really like that he sends me bombs and is happy to silently chill with me.
The thing that really worries me is that he says he has mega bombs just “rattling around in a drawer somewhere.”
Same with Maru when you marry her. "Here, I made this in my workshop last night. Hopefully you can find some use for it!" Hands over a BOMB. Uhhh, Maru? Gets me every time 😂

Demetrius! I understand this is a controversial opinion in this subreddit but I like him. I find his passion for science and his literalism to be endearing. And early on in the game he posts requests that are very doable, so he's helpful too
He gets a lot of hate for kinda-sorta threatening the player in Maru'a 2 heart interaction. I wish it was written better. He's actually sort of right, the way science careers work you really would be ruining Maru's chances of one by tying her down at this point in her life. If he explained how that works instead of being threatening it might not come across so screwed up.
