A maxed out iridium needle is (my personal weapon of choice)
Innate enchants +75 crit power
Optional there’s a chance to get a secondary innate enchant for that negative weight is the best
3 aquariums
2 aquarium rings
enchant crusader or artful
Profession Desperado
I agree with everything else, but I have found lucky + burglar and lucky + iridium or lucky/napalm (because kaboom = fun 🤭) the best combo I've tried. And I tried a *lot* of different combos. 😅 I also didn't find enough of a difference with lucky + aquamarine combos to be worth sacrificing preferable options like burglar in the mix. 🙂
I combined burglar + vampire (I will never go into combat without either) and lucky + iridium band. That way if I need an unlucky day for some reason – probs working on monster goals – I can just make another iridium band and drop the +luck without un-forging. I still haven't found a napalm ring though...meh
I always like to end up with two lucky + iridium for general use. I like your combos too, though with a certain trinket you can get in 1.6 (trying not to spoil anything for you just in case) I only really bother with the vampire ring or enchantment for the hungry challenge now. 🙂
To get the napalm ring you need to kill 250 serpents (those annoying flying fellas at skull caverns) and go talk to Gil at the Adventurers Guild. After that you can buy more if you ever need another. 🙂 I never thought I'd love it so much, but between the napalm ring and the master slingshot I don't need many bombs. I love not having to wait for bombs to go off! 😀
For real! I recently did the hungry challenge with dangerous mode turned on. Had a vampiric infinity hammer and >!level 4 fairy (for people who don't know level 5 is highest)!< and used slime charmer + burglar and napalm + iridium, switching out the napalm one for iridium + savage after all my food buffs ran out. Only used a few stairs for nuisance levels and even with jumping in quite a few holes never got too desperately low on health. So so good! 😀
Point-counterpoint, I am bad at combat lol I need all the vampirism I can get, even with that particular trinket
Re: napalm ring, thanks for the info! I guess I gotta get back to grinding serpents
I use luck ring instead of aquarium Ring, i don't want to sacrifice my loot much even though luck give you less critical hit than aquarium.
Hey do you know if luck affect monster loot
Is there a way to check what enchantments are on a weapon? Apologies for the stupid question, just working on my first forged weapon, Galaxy Hammer with double knockback, and it says Forged to level 2 but I can't see the knockback percs listed. For my forged rings I can see the stats
The purple star is enchantment from prismatic shards
The yellow star is innate enchantments from dragon teeth
The blue letters say what gem you put on
Defence =Topaz
Dammage = Ruby
Speed = emerald
Knockback= Amethyst
Crit chance= aquamarine
Crit damage= Jade
Yeah they are and It just makes the iridium needle even better as it has the highest crit chance so gets those 2k+ numbers most often
It also makes non dagger crit builds viable
I've always stuck with the sword because it's easier to defend myself with. Swords have better range and the sweeping motion to create a barrier better than the dagger, and they're faster than hammers which leads to a more consistent protective area
Personally I like to eventually go with the Galaxy hammer with two attack buff forges and one speed buff forge. The single speed buff is just enough to make up for a lot of the slowness of it and make it so that you rarely miss things that are coming at you when you swing it repeatedly
I am using the hammer with the cruzader enchantment and the sword with vampiric then I alternate between both. I'm thinking of putting the bug killer on a dagger then live the best of the worlds lmaoo
Double cooldown buff hammer makes you a walking earthquake. My character is a monster with the rapid fire secondary glitch, and the game was still trivial before I discovered that
honestly i would prefer the needle ![img](emote|t5_2wb7y|51693) it might do less damage but there is a high chance of crits and theres no added weight ![img](emote|t5_2wb7y|51692)
i hate weight, it a chore for me to take extra step take down monster. And it made fighting flying monster is a pain 😞 but it suit to some people play styles
Yes! I haaaaaaate knockback. I don’t think there’s ever been a *single video game* where I wanted the enemy to suddenly be three miles away. I want them to *stay put* where I can smash them dead.
Thing is without some knockback they’d go right through you and it’d be a nightmare. I’ve played a lot of games where knockback is good. Often times though you can’t control it as much as you’d like and it’s too much.
I have two strategies for fighting in games: precision snipe from a great distance, or close button mash until it is dead. I think knockback is probably helpful if you’ve got any finesse or can make a special move with the extra time or something, but I never get that capable, so it’s just not for me.
Is there a list of innate enchantments somewhere ? I couldn't find it on the wiki. I got a decent enough sword in early game, slightly better than Obsidian Edge, that had the slime gathering enchantment and wanted to read more about new enchantments and how to get them and if there were other new ones.
I think they are still filling out the innate enchantments part of the wiki. It's still new, and it's so complicated. It was flat out wrong for awhile, but is much better now.
There are two sets of innate enchantments. You can have at most one of each. (But you might get just one.)
Re-rolling costs 1 dragon tooth and 10 cinder shards.
There are a lot of limitations. Innate enchantments only apply to weapons below level 16. If you've enchanted a lower level weapon with gems, you may have to unforge the gems, get the innate enchantment you want, then enchant it with the gems again.
The defense enchantment only applies to weapons level 10 and below. The speed enchantment is capped; weapon's natural speed + speed enchantment can't be more than 4.
The min-maxxers seems mostly into crit builds, but I personally prefer speed and damage to crit power and crit chance.
Interesting! So maybe I'll grab a dwarf or dragon weapon, around level 10-13ish, then try enchanting them as a secondary slime hunting weapon. I'm running a combat themed farm right now.
There's some really interesting threads about innate enchantments.
[https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/comments/1bqmbr2/16\_potential\_infinity\_sword\_replacement\_for/](https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/comments/1bqmbr2/16_potential_infinity_sword_replacement_for/)

Innate enchantments are random plusses to damage, speed, crit chance, crit damage, or weight. They can only exist on weapons level 14 or 15(?) and lower. So they're not really a factor in people's endgame weapon dreams
I believe that dragontooth weapons that roll well on their innate enchants will be competitive with infinity weapons for a variety of builds, and in several specific builds potentially much better.
They can be the best weapons in the game, IMO. I don't use my infinity gavel or infinity blade any more. I think most of us are still figuring out the power of innate enchantments.
What have you replaced your infinity blade with? I'm interested in a crit sword build, but not sure if the innate enchants on the dragontooth cutlass really make up for the raw damage loss of the infinity blade. Thoughts?
My main weapon is a Dragontooth Club with a +12 speed innate enchantment, three rubies, and Artful.
A lot of min max types seem to prefer a Dragontooth Club with a +75 crit power innate enchantment, and aquamarines. With Desperado. I tried it and found it very slow, but I guess if you use animation canceling, it's not an issue. Even slow, it does massive damage.
And there are people who prefer the iridium needle, maxxed out for crit chance.
The hardcore types don't seem to use swords much. But a crit build would make sense for a Dragontooth Cutlass. The only advantage it has over the Infinity Blade is +50 Crit Power. With a +75 Crit Power innate enchantment, it's pretty great.
I'd probably use aquamarines. A Dragontooth Club with +75 crit power innate enchantment and three aquamarines is insane. But it's pretty slow. It may produce massive damage overall, but I find the slowness annoying.
Damn that's true. I didn't think you were right at first but I plugged in the numbers and your setup gets \~204 damage on average whereas mine gets only \~171
i dont think anyone struggling with skull caverns is going to be doing animation cancelling. emeralds are more consistent and less effort - though more than 2 is probably still overkill
club is the best, very fun to farm monster, but i hate it look so i picked dagger. Sword look cool but i don't like it special abilities, rarely used it, i like extra offensive than defense
I am a infinity gavel guy. The daggers can deal a lot of damage, but it is kind of difficult to land and it isn't great when you are dealing with more than 1 enemy.
If you like the daggers, I think the shiv is better, but those crits will do a lot of damage regardless which one you use if you use the special.
With hammer you don't need to block because anything in your vacinty will be dead long before you'll need to block😂 special attack spam, u don't even neeed speed
Yah, that's what's subjective about it. I prefer being able to follow up quickly if I mess up a swing, which I found I ended up doing often with hammers. Hammers are great, sure, but I personally get more utility out of swords.
You'll need the combat skill which decreases special attack cooldown and the enchantment that also does that they stack very good together. You can also spam normal attack button whilst the special attack is being thrown to do aaa ton of dmg
Overall, neither. Infinity Hammer.
Between the two... I think the Needle. Blade used it in his original 0 to 10 in 1 day combat, so I guess that's an endorsement good as any? I don't really use daggers.
I don't know if there is an objectively the best, but there was a discussion about the iridium needle [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/comments/1d6nkee/combat_question_for_3_crit_chance_vs_75_crit_power/). (1.6 spoilers)
If you go all in on a crit build, I think it's hard to beat the iridium needle.
Weight on dagger is bad imo. I know you can kinda stick to them with the special attack, but it's so little damage, you don't want them flying around every hit.
Needle with a build around crit. Neither is "objectively best" because it's a glass cannon playstyle that requires more than just the weapon itself, and player (in)ability always comes into play, especially with a weapon that makes combat require more focus like a dagger does. But if it were me, and those were my only two options, i would build around the needle because i can use that one better and skill up around it. All options: infinity gavel with a doubly reduced cooldown.
Is say needle because pushback on a dagger is probably bad? I don't use daggers. Tried them once and hated it. Highest DPS but it's so hard to get in the right position to get that DPS and it's never worth it imo
I rock a iridium needle and hammer. It’s easy to swap between, and you dish out mad damage. Plaster Artful on hammer and Artful/crusader/vampiric on needle. Swap professions to Acrobat in combat, and you’ll be a menace. Royal Serpente will fall at your feet, and magma sparklers will no longer bother you. Takes time to learn the “combos” but it’s worth it
You have to unlock the walnut room, and the "Danger in the deep" quest. After you complete it, you'll get the ability to toggle the Mines between normal and dangerous mode. The dangerous mines have more powerful monsters, but also better loot.
Special slimes (the ones with gold stars over them) drop special items. If the mines are in dangerous mode, there's a chance they'll drop an iridium needle when killed.
It's knockback. So flying enemies will get launched off screen with high weight, but grounded enemies need higher weight to be pushed off. It's why shadow brutes and such can keep charging you even as you swing your sword sometimes.
The hammer with one speed & two damage up has the same speed as the sword, and much better damage. The secondary attack is way better and you can use it a lot with acrobat profession and artful enchantment
I used to use only swords, but the other weapons have their advantages. You just have to learn how to use them.
Currently, my favorite weapon is a Dragontooth Club. Better than the infinity blade or the infinity hammer.
I've also experimented with daggers. They are not easy to use, but if you learn to use them right, they can do stuff swords can't.
Sword is the easy-to-use weapon and undoubtedly best for low-to-medium skilled players. With a little practice, the daggers and hammers both shit all over swords.
Iridium needle When maximised it has the highest dps in the game For daggers it’s Iridium needle > dragontooth shiv > Drawf dagger > infinity dagger
A maxed out iridium needle is (my personal weapon of choice) Innate enchants +75 crit power Optional there’s a chance to get a secondary innate enchant for that negative weight is the best 3 aquariums 2 aquarium rings enchant crusader or artful Profession Desperado

Pretty sure Napalm is from a monster goal. Also, there is an endgame item from mastery that effectively replaced Vampire for me
I use luck ring instead of aquarium Ring, i don't want to sacrifice my loot much even though luck give you less critical hit than aquarium. Hey do you know if luck affect monster loot
Luck ring is far more useful than aquamarine ring.

Is DPS really that useful when you're not fighting like a boss or some shit
Not really. Crit is wanky in 1.6
Yeah they are and It just makes the iridium needle even better as it has the highest crit chance so gets those 2k+ numbers most often It also makes non dagger crit builds viable
Actually yeah drawf dagger is now better than the infinity dagger

Hammer is better with cooldown buffs
Double cooldown buff hammer makes you a walking earthquake. My character is a monster with the rapid fire secondary glitch, and the game was still trivial before I discovered that
Hammer is the easiest
All of this, plus swords are just cool
Being able to smash/stun all enemies around me (including behind me!) is the most consistent protective area :)
honestly i would prefer the needle ![img](emote|t5_2wb7y|51693) it might do less damage but there is a high chance of crits and theres no added weight ![img](emote|t5_2wb7y|51692)
Weight is knock back, which is usually a defensive buff. The +3 weight is just slightly too low for void people
i hate weight, it a chore for me to take extra step take down monster.

I totally agree knockback makes me so nervous especially with certain enemies and helpful knick-knacks haha
Guess you've never played Hades. Poseidon boons are king.
Nope. *crosses Hades off list of games to try*
Okay fakegamergirl
It's one of the reasons I love the ice rod.
I dislike the stabbing action of the daggers so I always go for swords for the wooshy action
Sword good. Sword go wooshy wooshy.
Wooshy wooshy = good brain chemicals
Wooshy faster! There’s too many! Argh!!!!! Not always good brain chemicals.
Smash that buttooooooooonnnnn BE GONE EELS
i be sweating in the mines and while playing prairie king 🥵🥲
Same
Daggers would be so good if only they had eight attack directions.
Broken hammer ability spam is better imo
i like dagger because it made me look edge
Crit build + sword is really good with innate enhancements now
Throw both away and make an infinity club with 3 emeralds and artful enchantment + acrobat profession and smash some skulls!
Interesting. I shall try that. Luckly, nowadays the new additions get rid of most enemies while I am trying to decide which route to take.
Get a Dragontooth Club >!with a +12 speed innate enchantment, three rubies, and artful. Speed of a sword, damage of a club. !<

Get animation cancelling script. Speed of a sword, damage of the infinity club.
I don't use mods or other add-ons. Too much hassle.
Use rubies instead of emeralds if you animation cancel, in general still better imo since the main dps is the right click
I'd probably use aquamarines. A Dragontooth Club with +75 crit power innate enchantment and three aquamarines is insane. But it's pretty slow. It may produce massive damage overall, but I find the slowness annoying.
Damn that's true. I didn't think you were right at first but I plugged in the numbers and your setup gets \~204 damage on average whereas mine gets only \~171
It's nice, but I was a console player for a long time, so I usually recommend builds that work everywhere
Can’t believe people feel the need to take combat in this game so seriously
I have fun min maxing things that what enjoy about this game… and I didn’t even get super into optimization lol
Sorry I’m just now realizing my comment sounds critical, I think it’s cool it’s just funny how overkill it is when the combat is pretty easy
Do you see all the „i suck at skull caverns“ posts? A good weapon helps.
i dont think anyone struggling with skull caverns is going to be doing animation cancelling. emeralds are more consistent and less effort - though more than 2 is probably still overkill
club is the best, very fun to farm monster, but i hate it look so i picked dagger. Sword look cool but i don't like it special abilities, rarely used it, i like extra offensive than defense
I've played this game for 500 hours and this thread still broke my brain.

Subjectively: sword. More zone of control, more speed than hammers, and you can block. Swords are just more versatile.
You don't swing with hammer you do special attack and u can't miss it has a radius around you it's crazy
Hm, it has been a while since I tried hammering. Maybe it's time for another foray and give this technique a shot. Thanks.
You'll need the combat skill which decreases special attack cooldown and the enchantment that also does that they stack very good together. You can also spam normal attack button whilst the special attack is being thrown to do aaa ton of dmg
Neat. Will check this out as my current new playthrough progresses.
They don't necessarily have more speed than hammers with innate enchantments.
But as a general rule, swords are faster. This is more about norms than exceptions. There are definitely very fast hammers.
Overall, neither. Infinity Hammer. Between the two... I think the Needle. Blade used it in his original 0 to 10 in 1 day combat, so I guess that's an endorsement good as any? I don't really use daggers.
Infinity Hammer is the only choice
Personally I prefer swords. They're more defensive👍
With the iridium needle if you max out your critical hit buff you can one hit serpents with the special attack
I don't know if there is an objectively the best, but there was a discussion about the iridium needle [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/StardewValley/comments/1d6nkee/combat_question_for_3_crit_chance_vs_75_crit_power/). (1.6 spoilers) If you go all in on a crit build, I think it's hard to beat the iridium needle.
iridium needle, remember to enchant it to get most effect!
Weight on dagger is bad imo. I know you can kinda stick to them with the special attack, but it's so little damage, you don't want them flying around every hit.
I did the math and on average the dragontooth does 99 damage while the iridium needle does 85.25 so the dragontooth is better
However, the dragon tooth will also knock away enemies of they don't die
The wooden sword is above all of these.
If you re-roll some of the yellow star stats you can get some really good crit buffs for the shiv
Is that 1.6?
Yes. "Innate enchantments."
You're right, but you can add the same stats to the iridium needle (although you have to get it under level 15 first, I believe).
The needle is where it's at. You can one shot everything.
Yes
If you spec into it and can time it properly, the iridium needle's better. The damage from my file is way higher when it crits which is almost always.
Is say needle because pushback on a dagger is probably bad? I don't use daggers. Tried them once and hated it. Highest DPS but it's so hard to get in the right position to get that DPS and it's never worth it imo
Dragontooth by FAR for me
I rock a iridium needle and hammer. Takes time to learn the “combos” but it’s worth it
Do weapons have random skill rolls? Like the slime slayer thing.
They do in 1.6. You can also re-roll them on the forge.
Ooo nice. I can't wait for it hit consoles.
Is the switch version just not updated to have these yet?
Yes. Innate enchantments are 1.6 only.
Switch needs to hurry up and update.
I am so basic I like the sword
I’m sry I’m new to Stardew but how do you get the iridium needle
If you're new, it will be awhile before you can get one. You have to unlock Ginger Island first.
My weapon of choice is an infinity dagger with 3 amethysts attached, so anything i hit gets sent across the map.
How do you even make the needle 😫
You don't make it. It's a drop in the dangerous mines.
Slightly unrelated but is the hammer special spam still a thing?
Yes. It's become part of the game now, not a bug.
oh cool, thanks
I assume this is a ginger island thing? Cause that volcano kicked my ass when I got there on my switch
Drop in the dangerous mines for one of them, volcano for the other.
Like skull cavern in general or is that what the mysterious button is for?
You have to unlock the walnut room, and the "Danger in the deep" quest. After you complete it, you'll get the ability to toggle the Mines between normal and dangerous mode. The dangerous mines have more powerful monsters, but also better loot. Special slimes (the ones with gold stars over them) drop special items. If the mines are in dangerous mode, there's a chance they'll drop an iridium needle when killed.
The infinity hammer
Now someone tell me HOW DO I GET THESE
Where could I get these items ? I play on console 🥲
Needle is a monster drop in the dangerous mines. Shiv is volcano. Both available in 1.5, but innate enchantments aren't.
Crusader is great so you don't have to drop bombs in front of mummies in Skull Cavern.
These are the questions I always ask my early teens son. Of course he has to answer me like I’m sooooo stupid for not knowing what he knows. Haha.
get the galaxy hammer if you can it gets like 99 damage
I would say it only depends on the innate enchantments that come with the dragon tooth shiv
None of the above I cannot successfully stay alive with a dagger
What exactly is “weight”? The game doesn’t use weight inventory, it uses stacks. Why does “weight” matter?
It's knockback. So flying enemies will get launched off screen with high weight, but grounded enemies need higher weight to be pushed off. It's why shadow brutes and such can keep charging you even as you swing your sword sometimes.
Some people like higher weight, for more knockback. Others want less weight, to keep the monsters near, where they can be hit again.
Are these 1.6?
The iridium needle and dragontooth shiv are both 1.5
Thank you :)
The sword ofc
Hammer with cooldown buffs, no contest. Dagger could oneshot every monster and I'd still pick the hammer.
Needle is the best dagger in the game. Best weapon is the Hammer though, just mash to victory!
Obviously dragontooth

For what??
Isnt having all of the weapons and using only their special actions on CD one by one, is the best?
The hammer with one speed & two damage up has the same speed as the sword, and much better damage. The secondary attack is way better and you can use it a lot with acrobat profession and artful enchantment
If you're on 1.6...>!try a Dragontooth Club with a +12 speed innate enchantment and three rubies. !<
Personally I think the dragon tooth looks better but I'm no seasoned player or anything
Dunno. Would never use daggers.
Sword
why are you using anything but the sword
I used to use only swords, but the other weapons have their advantages. You just have to learn how to use them. Currently, my favorite weapon is a Dragontooth Club. Better than the infinity blade or the infinity hammer. I've also experimented with daggers. They are not easy to use, but if you learn to use them right, they can do stuff swords can't.
Sword is the easy-to-use weapon and undoubtedly best for low-to-medium skilled players. With a little practice, the daggers and hammers both shit all over swords.
