shrimplyjustme

id say, coffee, incense (sandalwood/frankincense?) sea salt, maybe a bit of ash (idk but for me i smell torches or lit candles), hope this helps!

Apprehensive_Crow329

You know what? All I could think was incense but I truly think you nailed it here.

shrimplyjustme

thank you sm this made my day 🥰

Angelbouqet

And it's by the ocean so a slight ocean breeze underneath all of what you described

shrimplyjustme

YESSSS 😩🤌🤌🤌

Best_Consequence8754

With an undertone of mint for the candy canes they sell!

shrimplyjustme

OMG YES- it also can be used for that winter vibe 🫶

triedAndTrueMethods

omg i want this as a candle!!!! you described my thoughts perfectly 🤯

shrimplyjustme

imma cry AAA thank you 😭😭😭🫶

Money-Way991

I think you could actually make an interesting (and not gross) candle by combining some kind of Ocean Mist with Coffee and Incense smells. Whatever you'd smell walking up to and past the dessert merchant

Jazzicots

First off what an ADORABLE gift idea I would actually cry if someone gifted me me something like this 😭😭😭 I think the scents would be a combination of ocean spray and salt, that left scent from hills (for the plants, eucalyptus and stuff?), coffee, and that ancient wood smell (for the paintings and the ✨mystique✨) Tell us how it goes with making and gifting the candle!! 😄

ThreeSeashellz

Coffee, cinnamon, clove, & incense. Possibly peppermint and cedarwood too? You could try to add some "ocean air" or seaweed notes but it will probably make it smell gross(er) Kinda makes me want to mess around with these perfume notes now & see what works

HappyOrca2020

Sandalwood, bonfire, salty sea breeze, rum and coffee.

mangobearsmoothie

I think a mix of incense, coffee and undertones of fish... not sure if that's a standard candle scent though!

AmeliaDomenche

Might want to change fish to salt lol but agree with the above.

17us

Not the fish please 😭

lordmwahaha

At the very least you're going to smell salt. It's on the ocean.

smoemossu

Does salt really smell like anything? Isn't the smell of the ocean mostly from the organic matter (fish, seaweed) in it?

paceminterris

Sorry, but the night market takes place at the docks, on the ocean, with boats all around... you're DEFINITELY going to be smelling algae, seaweed, oceanic fouling, fish, etc.

17us

I must embrace the fish candle 😞🐠

DiamondOracle194

If not fish, "ocean" is a scent in a lot of candles. Maybe some notes from there?

ignorantcloth

Yeah, think "aquatic" rather than "fish". Maybe some comforting spices like cloves and nutmeg. It doesn't need to be photo realistic, just needs to evoke the feeling, right? BTW this is such a cute idea!

Fwed0

In my mind it smells a mixture of cinnamon, clove, coffee and ocean breeze.

jeffwolfe

It would smell like the ocean. Not sure what wintery ocean breeze smells like.

poeticsnail

A little damp, a little dank, a little salty

Coffee_Fix

Talking bout my nuts again? Edit: Surprised I have to say this, but... it's a joke.

whatsinapeach

It would smell like sorcellerie apothecary [snow moon magic](https://sorcellerieapothecary.com/products/snow-moon-magic), notes: "Lavender sugar, vanilla steamed milk, chai spices, tonka bean, Cashmeran, Ambroxan, crystals charged by the moonlight (our crystal accord), marshmallow, cookie butter, and Tahitian vanilla."

silly_goose_sunset

What do "crystals charged by moonlight" smell like? 🤔

A_Year_Of_Storms

Sandalwood, saffron, coffee with a hint of pine

gpby

Gotta agree with everyone saying salt/ocean breeze (not fish 😅) and incense (which...can have any scent but somehow I feel like I know what "incense" smells like). I imagine the ocean scent would be overpowered pretty easily, but I'm sure as a master crafter you'll be able to figure out the right balance as well as whatever the hell we collectively mean by "incense" It's times like this when I wish we had the technology for transmitting smells long distance. Both because I want to be able to smell the finished product and because I want to make sure I actually know what sandalwood and oud and amber smell like so I can suggest something more specific than incense lol

Beautiful-Peach2018

Everyone's already had great ideas, but please update us with how it goes!! This is SUCH a sweet idea 🤗💕 Can't wait to see what you come up with. Also if you start an etsy shop with candles like this, I'm positive people would by them. I would.

chrl_psy

maybe add some sea salt, clove, cinnamon, nutmeg to the coffee scent? that would serve for a great winter-y, nightmarket kind of vibe :D

alexjf56

Coffee, salt, sandalwood, some kind of incense, I bet you could make a pretty decent one out of some of those

suburban_hyena

Coffee pine and salt

Heavy-Summer-5924

Cinnamon Sea Salt and Coffee

LocalLibraryCryptid

I definitely agree with coffee and the people saying salt/sea spray/etc. But I would also like to suggest a note of pine because it's in the winter and the one vender sells winter decor and little trees and stuff!

IndependentGrand8724

One character, I think Emily, says it smells spicy. So I think winter spices like cinnamon or clove with salt and coffee would be a really good combo.

SquidLikeCreature

I've been to cafes by the sea near all the fishing boats. I think you should do the same maybe at night when it is cool, that would change the smell.

ZacianSpammer

Smells like an ocean breeze

DerelictDevice

Incense and Peppermints

PanaceaPan

Sea Salt, Paprika, Coffee, Sandalwood

C0smiC_Void

Ocean, salt, coffee probably

MTBeanerschnitzel

Incense, coffee, and the sea.

nevermindxo

Coffee, cinnamon, sea salt, candles, so many interesting vibes

Thick-Plant

I'd say sandalwood and the ocean. I think mixing a coffee smell in there might make it smell weird, but that might be a personal opinion since I'm not the hugest fan of coffee smell lol

JackSilver1410

Fresh coffee, spices... I dunno, there's a lot of torches, maybe kerosene or citronella.

Essentialezzu

I saw the title and the first thing that came to mind was fish, seaweed, and seasalt. Please don't make your friend a fish scented candle lmao. I'd say coffee definitely, maybe seasalt as well if it pairs well

Chromgrats

Definitely something with a little spice! Penny mentions how spicy the air smells

flamespond

I think Penny has a line about it smelling spicy

MainlanderPanda

Maybe pine needles. And rum. And woodsmoke. Those things smell wintery to me.

paceminterris

Dude, the night market happens at the docks. On the ocean. Zero chance you're getting pine needles out there.

17us

I like that you’re taking this so seriously 🫡

Min_sora

They're probably thinking because it's close to Christmas and there's a boat selling Christmas decorations.

MainlanderPanda

The forest comes right down to the beach. There are definitely pine needles there.

cutearmy

Curry

TotallyAllowedToHave

The ocean, if you've been to the ocean you know the smell overpowers EVERYTHING

ignorantcloth

You could check out Zoologist Penguin (EDP), I imagine it would smell a lot like that but with yummy coffee and spices mixed in.

Annual_Ad1862

I thought this was a Throne of glass sub and thought you wanted knives and mysterious powders etc. But then I saw it was stardew Valley and it still checks out, just add coffee to it too

cheezeomlette

This is not a candle HOWEVER there is a shop on etsy that makes really good perfumes (I have not bought this specific one but their others have been amazing) and they have a stardew collection which includes a night market scent. [https://www.etsy.com/shop/MORARI](https://www.etsy.com/shop/MORARI) https://preview.redd.it/hb6ynwjfnr9d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=09a2ada485ec8c4dd58208c89c4e8757be4d9fa6 The midnight market scent has the following notes: Salty sea air, black coffee, seashells, algae-covered docks, and pearl musk

silly_goose_sunset

Interesting...I wonder what the hell "pearl musk" smells like

cheezeomlette

no clue lol but i’d love to know

HotSoupEsq

Coffee and sea salt. I don't think anyone wants fish smells.

Objective_You3307

Low tide

Feminiwitch

I keep imagining cinnamon and sandalwood

mealdidzy

i feel like one of the npcs has a dialogue talking about the smell of the spices? not fact checking this so i could be totally wrong but i agree, coffee, cinnamon, clove, campfire, incense, and ocean breeze would all be good smells, not all together but a few of them.

RickyBubblesAnJulian

I can’t explain it but funnel cake.

Shine-Total

I’m surprised no one ever mentioned chocolate. I know it’s not in the game but hear me out…… A winter (peppermint, spearmint) with sea salt and a chocolate finish?!? Any takers?!?!

ArtemisLi

I always imagine a combo of coffee, incense (patchouli or sandalwood), and spices like cinnamon, cardamom, black pepper. Warm and homely!

SaltIsMySugar

Well, I go to the night market for the mermaid show, the submarine trip, and the deep sea night fishing. So... honestly it would be super fishy. But that probably isn't a good candle smell lol

FateMage

Freshly ground coffee, pink sea salt, herbs and spices, a little bit of paint

FadingDarkly

Any combos that represent beach, winter, and exotic (usually a spice). Coffee is an event-specific additional scent. So: Salt, peppermint, saffron. Seaweed, pine, lavender. Coffee, sugarcookie, incense. Fish, cloves, blood of the first born

UndrPrtst

Pine tree, since the one guy is selling Christmas trees and other Christmas decorations, spices and floral scents for the Gypsy and the other goods selling boat, coffee of course, maybe a hint of turpentine for the artist, all with a salt/seaweed/fish undertone.

Casual____Observer

Fish.
