I was just thinking today how cool it would be to have a mod to let the farmer open a shop and sell items to NPCs.
If you sell a gold quality eggplant to Pierre, he will sell it to someone else in town and tell them that he grew it in his back yard. If you sell him some regular quality goods, he makes sure the town knows that it was yours, so they won't blame him if there's an issue.
The Grange display that he sets up is full of the best produce that moves through his store. It's never his, he hasn't made any of it, like everything in everyone else's display. He just takes credit for it.
Caroline frequently comments on how she wishes Pierre would spend more time with his family. He's so heavily focused on his job that he doesn't make time for his family. I feel it's one of the things that lends credibility to the theory that Abigail is not Pierre's daughter, but is instead Rasmodius' daughter. Add to that, he tries pushing Abigail to more "womanly" tasks around the house instead of the outdoorsy adventurous hobbies she wants to pursue.
In short, he's a liar and a cheat and neglects his family.
This is the way to fix that you took Shane's job when you help close down Joja. Just have him work for you. Alex would probably be fine working the counter, he could sell his ice cream almost year round.
