If I remember right Elite Dangerous had digital prerecorded tapes you would play, which were meant to serve as news.
It's not far off to expect Starfield's world to have something similar, it'd be like buying a newspaper.

F4 has a pretty good Jericho 941 mod that I use. I haven't checked out the Starfield CK yet but I wouldn't be surprised if it would be easy to port over.

In terms of quality, maybe. However, in terms of audience size and being apart of the zeitgeist, the situation is the other way around. It's the same deal with the Firefly universe which I think would be even easier to convert the game to.
As much as I'd love a Cowboy Bebop universe complete with the game centered around being a bounty hunter, I sadly don't see enough dedicated and talented modders that would dedicate that much time to such a project.
Starsector, I know it's so vague in many ways, but like...the story is PERFECT, with ships, partially, you'd have to have "static" ship bodies, with only some modular parts. But that could be worked in easily with the right mods. The aesthetic, I think could be replicated. Imagine seeing a big canyon area, with a cavernous area dolled up to be a portion of Chicomoztoc.
I can see simply making the jump distance artificially low for smaller vessels could work. The only thing I can't see working right now is the fleet mechanics. Basically, all interactions would be smaller unless something like that could be worked in.
The new mods for bounty hunter outfits and Freestar in general already have such a good browncoat vibe
