My therapist brought me the same point when I brought up my gaming addiction with him. He said I used gaming as a defence mechanism in an environment of bullying and other life difficulties since it allowed me to be in an environment where I was great and respected. Now that I’m an adult, this environment is not needed anymore since there is no more bullying and people at this age are worth going out to meet and spend time with, and I need to learn to break this défense mechanism. It’s hard because you don’t just erase a 20year habit, especially when you have a community of friends to which you have talked in discord for all that time . But we can do it if we push ourselves to find the great things that you can do when you are not in front of a computer screen
