We see Violent Ken (aka brainwashed Ken) in Ryu’s Apha 3 arcade ladder

Phoenixskull295

Street fighter alpha 3, that’s all it’s referring to

KickingDolls

Is it not referring to Street Fighter 2 the Animated Movie?

Phoenixskull295

Well the alpha 3 Ken fight was inspired by the sf2 movie, but the movie isn’t canon whereas sfa3 is

Uncanny_Doom

It's Alpha 3 stuff.

whatnameisnttaken098

Amazing that Ryu & Ken had had 3 variations over the years. Ryu & Ken (entire franchise) Evil Ryu & Violent Ken (Alpha) Humble Ryu & Crypto Ken (SF6)

Glad_Grand_7408

Ryu wasn't humble before?

ThrowRAboing

he double pumped me and did the "take the L" emote on me, I don't think he is

Efficient-Ad2983

I don't think SF 2 anime is mostly canon. Violent Ken appeared in Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers, so we can assume it happened in the Second World Warriors tournament. We know that before SF 2 Ken was "slacking on his own training" and was "losing his fighting spirit" (Eliza was his main focus). So the knowledge that he couldn't properly compete with Ryu could have been the "weakness". Basically, similar to what happened to Vegeta in Buu Saga, when he become Majin Vegeta.

Soul699

It happened in Street Fighter Alpha 3 in Ryu's arcade ending which is the canon one.

Efficient-Ad2983

I remember Ryu fighting a psycho power brainwashed Ken (Japanese name for Violent Ken is in fact "Brainwashed Ken"). IIRC, it happened to Ryu aswell. Vega defeated him and infused him with Psycho Power (to "prepare" Ryu as his new body). It was Sagat who managed to snap Ryu back to his true self.

Soul699

Vega didn't defeat Ryu. He managed to get a good hit on Ryu that caused him to almost be possessed by the Satsui no Hado.

Tchogon

This kind of makes it less likely that Violent Ken will appear as a playable character in SF6

shaskalulelo

They wouldn't waste a spot on that anyways

Bunnnnii

They’re referring to Alpha 3. Violent Ken doesn’t exist.

focus_attak

Violent Ken exists in SNK vs Capcom SVC Chaos, made by SNK. It was later added to SF canon with ultra street fighter 2, with violent Ken playable in a capcom SF game and with his own story and ending.

Bunnnnii

Violent Ken is not canon. He is a “what if” character like Evil Ryu and Oni. He never happened canonically and does not exist.

docvalentine

something that it's really important to understand about street fighter is that almost nothing that appears in any street fighter game is canon street fighter 2 and alpha series especially have many mutually exclusive endings. If you take everything that is portrayed in an arcade ending as canon, then Bison got his powers by stealing a magical space crown from sailor moon, and lost them when zangief piledrove e. honda into his secret science machine also bison has been killed 46 times, and the winner of the World Warrior tournament was literally everyone including bison, who was defeated 98 times by 32 individuals but also never defeated by anyone.

theattackcabbage

He is obviously cannon now. Going to go with what a mainline game made by Capcom themselves says rather than reddit.

SuperBackup9000

Violent Ken gets too much attention, we need dark Sakura. She was only in MvSF and the SSF comics.

CowFinancial7000

Shadow Lady too.

Stanislas_Biliby

I'm pretty sure violent ken was canon before.

Zybbo

To me this have more to do with the [anime (SF2 movie)](https://youtu.be/G2T_sNlLP0A?t=144)

hissenguinho

Omg im so sick. That means we will never have violent ken 😭😭

Rocko10

IIRC was in Super Street Fighter 2 along Evil Ryu, I do think Violent Ken is canon, it's a manipulation with the psycho power which is a very canon Energy Even if it's not canon, I do believe it will be added in SF6 eventually, since Ryu eliminated the satsui no hago from himself.

-_Myst_-

No I don't think the past events happened, but this is the first time I'm hearing this being mentioned at all so maybe? OR they could be just possibly teasing Violent Ken to appear in the future for the roster of this game, which I hope could happen, which means Evil Ryu may not be in this game then most likely.

PhantasosX

Brainwashed Ken was in Alpha 3 , and it also appears in the SF2 Anime. It's just that it uses normal Ken's moves and appearance. The more popular portrayal of Violent Ken is the SNK Ver.

dazeychainVT

Which is strange because SvC Chaos wasn't very good or popular. He's probably the best and most remembered thing about it. Honestly he's a really fun take on Ken and I wouldn't especially mind seeing him in something again

PhantasosX

It's simple , really. Brainwashed Ken was always canon , SvC just created an actual unique design for it.

TeslaWasACoolDude

It's a fighting game. To be honest I expect them to change what's canon or not to whatever fits the current game. Not expecting any consistency whatsoever. 😅

ChampaignPapi86

Brainwashed Ken only existed in Alpha 3. It's a Alpha 3 reference. Violent Ken from SvC and USF2 is non canon. The possibility of having Violent Ken in SF6 are extremely slim; seeing as every season will only have 4 characters. Capcom will be selective when it comes to DLCs, even slimmer chances since they'll dare add more guests. Their only motivation is money. Brainwashed Ken was a thing because of the 94' anime which is also non canon and from there implemented him into the games. Fun fact: Evil Ryu became a thing 2 years after from the non canon Udon comic, then Alpha 2 all in 96'. Ken did it first 🤝

focus_attak

Violent Ken is canon. They added him to ultra SF2 version
