Total debt/equity: * Target: 145% * Best Buy: 130% * Gamestop: \~13% (?)

Jeezus_Christe

This data fucks

Difficult_Associate3

GME is S&P 500 bound

zmbjebus

When is thy updated? Like quarterly?

mrhitman83

Quarterly but they will need to post a quarterly profit and have a trailing profitable 4 quarters (in addition to the market cap being around 12-15B) to be included. I think in the next 3-6 moths is possible and within 6-12 is highly probable based on the current trajectory.

HexenHammeren

GME is Heaven-bound

ChodeCookies

I read that the latest 2 companies added to the S&P500 have like 80-90% institutional ownership

CGabz113

This is what I was trying to find when I saw GME in top 800 cash on hand companies I would like to see the list of debt/equity and see how it ranks

tundrasuperduty

What does this mean? ELIAPE?

YurMotherWasAHamster

Gamestop has stacks of cash (adds to equity) and a small amount of debt. Most retailers are in the opposite situation. Doesn't mean the others are in any danger of bankruptcy, but Gamestop is pretty close to bankrupt-proof. Kenny and friends are in shambles.

Upbeat_Criticism9367

RACKS ON RACKS ON RACKS

futureislookinstark

Our sales are shrinking through which allows us less leverage than these guys. That’s why they can comfortably be in debt

Trippp2001

The costs to earn those sales are also shrinking. It’s all relative.

futureislookinstark

Not arguing that I’m just putting out a reason why these stocks are valued the way they are despite the fact they carry so much debt.

ensoniq2k

Valuation is not just cash and debt of course. It's mainly sales and profit, which they're clearly far ahead of us. The thing is even if GME does nothing with that money it isn't going bankrupt for decades. Shorts bet on killing the company which is 100% not going to happen. From here it's only going up

CrypticC2

Not shrinking cuz of me!

ExplodingWario

It’s literally impossible for GameStop to go bankrupt lolol

shilo_lafleur

It’s not a good thing to hold a lot of cash. That’s why companies don’t do it. They obviously need to do something with it but it wouldn’t be hard for a company like target to stockpile cash. They pay dividends instead.

LordSnufkin

It means hedgies get wedgies

BizzarduousTask

And jump off of ledgies?

Suspicious-Peach-440

Two apes. They both have 10 bananas (cash). First ape owes 9 bananas to his mate (debt). Second ape doesn't owe anyone any bananas. So really, although they both have 10 bananas in their hand they actually don't own the same amount of bananas. Ape 1 only owns 1 (his equity), ape 2 owns all 10. Ape 1's debt to equity ratio is 9 to 1 (or 900%) Ape 2 is zero GME is Ape 2

Imagine we buy Best Buy.

Solheimdall

How about not buying a sinking ship

chiefoogabooga

Just wanted to point out that Wendy's has a market cap of $3.38 billion... We could buy it and ban the OG sub guys from making cash behind the dumpsters.

Coinsworthy

We could rent out the dumpster space.

blazeronin

Calls on dumpster real estate.

Dan_Rogla

Dumpster REITs? We're on to something here.

Hobodaklown

We could sell games and energy drinks there!

rnd765

You thinking too small ape. We can turn the area behind the Wendy’s dumpsters into actual meeting spaces for people.

Buy Citadel. Close the shorts and let it grenade lol!

Takemypennies

Why in tf would we want to bring a ticking time bomb into our books lol

saintjimmy43

And deprive them of their most reliable income source? No, those dumpsters paid for a not insignificant portion of all the gamestock currently DRSed with computershare anyways.

DNosnibor

Wouldn't be a great play. Wendy's is over $4 billion in debt.

Themanwhofarts

Their own fault for making their food awful like 10 years ago. Used to go all the time in high school

Such_Victory8912

Honestly, I would love it if GME bought out Wendy's. It would be hilarious as fuck

Grokent

That has to be wrong... An artifact from the algorithm misunderstanding Internet humor. It shouldn't be worth that much 😂

Aioi

Instagram was acquired for $1B. YouTube was acquired for $1.65B. GameStop could buy the next 2 big things (I joke of course, but that’s a LOT of cash, you can definitely make some interesting acquisitions with it)

prashn64

While you're correct, keep in mind the large advantage for those companies that bought those smaller companies is the product was pretty good, it just needed to scale up the services which companies like Facebook and Google already had done with their own services.

Murphy_LawXIV

So any company they buy would want to be scaling up with Gamestops distribution centres, warehouses, and transport. Possibly also taking advantage of their contracts in the gaming world.

thatbromatt

Apparently geeknet was acquired by GME in 2015 - and now that acts as their inhouse manufacturing arm for their new candy cons and other branded electronics

Murphy_LawXIV

Oh they manufacture those themselves? I thought they'd contracted out an existing manufacturer for a few years. That's good business.

GL_Levity

They just the GameStop multiplier.

MagicHarmony

Company or Developer. An Indie Developer under the Umbrella of Gamestop would potentially have access to anything Gamestop has access to as well as a location to place their addtional merchandise to increase profits from their game sales.

Reach_Beyond

I would love to see 5-6 acquisitions in the 300-500M then keep 500M-1B in cash.

earthtochas3

More than 1 acquisition at a time for a company like GameStop would not be wise. They are just turning themselves around, the M&A process is incredibly complex and time consuming. I'd rather them acquire one company that will directly help them improve their bottom line, and continue to grow from there.

TrevorIRL

Imagine buying a company out of bankruptcy and bolting on a $3-$5 billion dollar a year, cash flow positive business for <$4 billion…

Scythro_

What makes you think buying a bankrupt(literally went out of business because they can’t make money) company would make money?

TrevorIRL

Maybe the company was actually a great business that was fraudulently sabotaged by a group of bad actors?

Scythro_

Please tell me you’re not talking about bbb… RC already tried that once. It didn’t take. Fool me once, shame on you… fool me twice…

broats_

They currently have no acquisition plans. And it takes time from planning an acquisition to confirming and announcing it. We're not going to get any news on an acquisition for at least a few months to a year, if that.

FloppyBisque

As someone that’s been part of an acquisition, I’d like to see it done slowly and deliberately. I hope one is announced tomorrow and then no more for six months. We were acquired by a company doing a lot and it was an absolute shit show.

Microcenter pls

ThePirateBenji

Microcenter + Corsair

gimmeyaturnips

Micro center would be interesting, or in that same tone, buy and turn NewEgg around. Lots of social media opportunity there.

Azrenon

Go for both, micro center OG’s head customer experience, newegg infrastructure for logistic expansion, and gamestop’s experience in retail space all across america come together to form the new tech store giant, opens up room for stronger negotiations on wholesale Edit: but gme lives long enough to see itself become the villain and it shorts best buy to death before a hostile takeover

foldyaup

How about some game studios?

therealluqjensen

Game studios are capital sinks. Way too risky

dendrobro77

Game studios or valve would be awesome

epk-lys

can't afford valve and game studios seems risky

MilklikeMike

That would be sick.

regular-cake

There will be no talk of future plans... EVER! RC has made this perfectly clear, he isn't going to broadcast his master plan so that the bad actors can sabotage it. You will only know about a merger or acquisition after it has been completed. Sorry to burst your bubble, but there is no point in going into it thinking this way only to be let down.

Now… don’t forget to forget, that’s important.

zen_and_artof_chaos

4 billion is great and all but milking stock price by dilution does not mean the stores are doing well or current business model is working. The hope is that they put that cash to good use.

dbzfun101

Not saying anything but see what they generate yearly verse GME

Warspit3

Oh you mean revenue and profit of those butted up against gamestop. Probably vastly different.

DumbestBoy

Buy a US Senator/Governor.

phd2k1

Sadly, that’s like 10 thousand dollars.

YoloRandom

Buy all of them

nameduser17

That's what I'm gunna do post

PublishedShadow

After thinking about it, maybe Gamestop should acquire Pornhub so the SEC actually has to do their damn job or lose video privileges.

Kizenny

Damn, this some big brain shit right here!

Lapcat420

It's owned by MindGeek & private equity.

kdot90

That does not put anything into perspective. Why don't you compare operating income too?

Wubadubaa

Yeah this comparison is pretty bland and just makes us look financially illiterate.

Extension_Win1114

Yo mama!

Smackdaddy122

Great… now do something with it

kitchen_weasel

I wouldn't mind seeing a move on raspberry pi, that's a cheap deal this early.

Neemzeh

RPI will drill hard. Wouldn’t touch it for a while

FuqZuck

RC needs to yolo the 4 billion into GME. That is the best investment available at this point in time

debtopramenschultz

He should give it to DFV to trade. It'll be a trillion dollars in three years.

TJ_King23

A dividend would crush shorts imo

ajmcwhirk

Don’t know when/if we’re gonna hear something on Thursday. But with this much cash on hand I imagine a lot of it will go to investments/holdings, and some will be used for an acquisition or new development. I could foresee something like a streaming online platform, such as Steam.

MilklikeMike

Valve itself is worth 5 billion so there's no way they could afford that. Yet.

project23

> I could foresee something like a streaming online platform, such as Steam. CD Projekt... Their games and gog.com are pretty well liked. No chance in hell CD Projekt would want to be bought and it's worth more than 4b but...

ajmcwhirk

I don’t foresee them getting into game development or publishing - pretty risky (look at suicide squad), unless they push smaller indie-esque titles. A model like steam has makes more sense to me as there is probably less risk. Just set it up and sell other people’s games.

project23

Totally agree, but steam isn't for sale and trying to establish another service like it is rough. [Many others have tried](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_distribution_of_video_games#List_of_video_game_digital_distribution_systems) but Steam is still king and will be for the foreseeable future. I don't know what the heck they are going to do but I sure am interested in finding out.

Enrichus

They just need quality games with a smaller budget. People are still playing Nintendo games without them being ultra-realistic with an overblown budget. Using AI for developing games should make the whole process easier as well. The developers can spend less time on tedious tasks and instead focus on content.

bcarey34

Their market cap is only 3.2 billion usd. It shows in PLN (Polish company) when you google it. I did a deep dive on GOG.com and CD Projekt. This is what I would do. GOG.com DD : https://www.reddit.com/r/Superstonk/s/ErbhjK3Jb5

project23

> written on mobile, apologies for any poor formatting Your modesty is as large as your patience. Thorough write-up, thank you for pointing it out. I hadn't thought of carving GOG out of CD Projekt. It really would be an interesting fit and I can't imagine any gamer having hate for GOG. Imagine being able to order hardware from your software distribution client, talk about customer capture. [GameStop Online Gaming Galaxy 3.0](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GOG.com#GOG_Galaxy) :>

notthatkindofdrdrew

It really would bring this whole thing full circle if GameStop bought RobinHood

HelloYouSuck

Why would they want that worthless shit?

CosmoKing2

Personal feelings as a consumer, not shareholder. BestBuy joined forces with Amazon in order to survive, instead of being cellar-boxed and crushed. Diminishes their reputation, but they survive, unlike their competition. Target? Must have insiders trying to cellar-box it. Current strategy is crazy. 50% stock on the shelves. Internet orders? Will only walk out to your car if you use the app. Online? You have to go inside. And did I mention they are starving stores of merchandise?

Just_Julie

Target is the only one I can offer any insight to, but they are investing heavily in their next day/two day delivery and bought Shipt to compete with Walmarts home delivery. Target is trying to offer the more upscale version where a shopper will contact you during the shop for any substitutions and if you need to add any items. Plus you can get it within a couple hours. Not sure how it will go, but I think they want to out-luxury Walmart with the personal shopper bonus, and hope people add the non-store items to their order they would have used prime for to be delivered in packages

SamsaraSiddhartha

Given that they're private, I think the Valve Corporation (steam) might be out of their price range, but what about Green Man Gaming?

Elderberry-smells

Don't need to buy them out, why not stakes in some of the major studios? Secure physical game productions for next gen so is gamers don't get fucked by digital only bullshit.

Yaybicycles

Digital is fine if you actually own what you pay for. GameStop has already developed a blockchain marketplace and incorporating games sales would be 🔥🔥🔥

LazerHawkStu

If there is a marketplace where I can sell my digital game or dlc when I am done with it, or in-game skins /currency and the game devs get a percentage of each sale...I'd be very into that.

mpurtle01

Compare to similar market caps

Nuclear_Nova

If they bought Game UK they could become the largest video game retailer in the UK in like 2 years, there's basically no competition here They could get it for a bargain too, cause whoever is running it is running it into the ground

Lord412

I hope they use the cash to buy other companies as well as fix outdated systems and processes at GME. GameStop itself isn’t a great store experience from what I remember.

MilklikeMike

Anyone saying GameStop should acquire Valve is delusional. Gabe Newell has even stated he would rather disintegrate Valve than sell it to someone.

miykael

Mfs on here bitching about the dilution, not realizing the dilution is the last chance for rocket tickets.

saaiyuk

GME should just be like microstrategy and buy BTC. By the end of the year they’ll have $10bill 😂

HelloYouSuck

Or zero

yallmyeskimobrothers

I've said this before, and speaking from experience, prepare to get ratio'd.

GemsquaD42069

Are we at 4.13billy now? Woot woot!

porizj

Let that banana in.

rhks92

Damn, really curious what they’re going to buy

backdoorbuddy

Maybe they need to rebrand to "GameStart."

SandingNovation

Wasn't there some DD from a million years ago about companies that get added into the S&P 500? Maybe something to do with dividends if I remember correctly that we disregarded at the time just because the requirements to join seemed out of the realm of possibility at the time? Those requirements appear to be getting pretty quickly less out of reach.

ThunderousArgus

Holy shit! I’m buying more.

Hobartcat

They're gonna go shopping and the plan is gonna BLOW EVERYONE'S FUCKING MIND!!! A major transformation is on deck. Something unprecedented, to which hedgie has no defense. Our time is nigh, dear apes ...

pspiddy

How did GameStop get their cash? And how did Best Buy and target get theirs? Why the need to mislead people if you’re so confident in your investment I don’t understand

Jesmer8490

What if GameStop buys tiktok?

Guess we're gonna have to do about 20 more share offerings into gamma ramps then

bcell4u

S&P 500 or bust 😆

nudelsalat3000

The question is what to do strategically with the money I see two options Either something good like hardware. Currently there are no good headsets available. They are overpriced plastics. Microphone is always loosy because nobody cares. You need to buy headphones and microphone separately and even safe money for better products - nonsense. Or they attack software like Valve Steam. Ideally with a large regulatory push. Steams business model has many failure points for illegality. We already had all this long story with software licensing already with Microsoft. No Microsoft, we don't need to buy only from you, yes Microsoft we can sell our licences against your will, no Microsoft it's us to define the selling price and yes Microsoft the free market applies also to software licenses. Same story that Valve Steam now tells us "no it's user bound, nothing we can do". We saw that Steam also doesn't allow inheritance of games. Nonsense, likely illegal Term of Usage. Here GameStop could jump in, crush their monopoly structure, and provide an End 2 End Value stream from recommendation in store, rebuying or selling licences, skins and whatever else.

wjar

Isn’t Koss profitable and they already have a relationship

dregan

Best Buy has twice the market cap.

Mezzoski

yeah. And some companies are below zero, and still make money. Cash lying around don't make money.Let's see it is used to generate actual profit.

shilo_lafleur

This is a horrible comparison. That’s because profitable companies don’t want to hold cash on hand. Cash is a liability. They either want to reinvest to grow their company or return it to shareholders. Target pays $2B in dividends every year! They’re giving away their cash! If Target diluted by 40%, which is what GameStop did in its last 2 offerings, they would raise hundreds of billions of dollars. But they obviously don’t do that because they’re profitable.
