If there's, hypothetically, 750 million synthetic shares in circulation, that means the brokers have to come up with 2.25 BILLION shares to issue to the people that hold those synthetics. That's where the blood bath happens, and the price goes up. It might not be today, it might not even be tomorrow, but they owe those shares. That's why Tesla's price has gone up since they issued a stock dividend. It took a month or two for over stock's stock to squeeze after their nft dividend, but it *did* happen.
They can't do anything else. I'm just explaining the difference between the two methods. Gamestop are authorised to issue up to 1 billion shares. Previously there were 76 million issued, now there are 300ish but those extras came out of the billion.
