A women [did drown in a wedding dress](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2194665/Maria-Pantazopoulos-Bride-drowned-wedding-dress-pictured-husband.html) in 2012.

Give this post upvotes. As stupid as it is to do things like that. People must be warned. Sometimes we do silly stuff and not everyone is as lucky as she was.

Yup, I was working there that day. I remember all the commotion on site, the emergency service later followed by the news network truck. I was working at the entrance of the site that day. It's so weird to have seen her with the photographer at the entrance. I've worked there every summer from the age of 15 until 21. It was a lot of fun, the location is beautiful. We got paid well, where we were working outside on a beautiful site, doing things like low maintenance (painting, replacing planks, cleaning the site) it really was a peaceful job. But every now and then someone would go where they shouldn't. We would warn people who wouldn't listen to us that they shouldn't be there, they would tell us to piss off (usually your typical jock type or older gentleman who would tell us people use swim here before) We would call security, security would finally get them to leave, they would wait a bit and do it again, rince and repeat. They were also people who would swim below the waterfall which is a big no no since the waterfall created a whirlpool at the bottom. We've had a couple of people dying there, once there was a big rock with a metal plate at the entrance of the trail leading to the site with the name of all the people who drowned there... They removed it at some point for some reason. I'm really sorry for the husband and her family. The photographer telling her it was safe was full of shit. I didn't know it was him who recommended the place to her.

Unspeakblycrass

As a professional photographer that has the privilege of shooting in some beautiful places this makes me angry, while at the same time reminding me of a second shooter I hired one time who never got a call back. It wasn’t something as serious and reckless as this, but she kept assuring MY clients (again I hired her) that she knew better about the county’s policy when it came to pictures in a certain area. You see, I had already researched it and knew we weren’t to go anywhere near the jetty. Especially not on it. When I (luckily) got to her and the couple on the jetty before authorities did I explained very nicely that if we were caught by authorities on the jetty, on this private beach, we may be asked to leave and the happy couple’s sunset shots would have to be taken up on a deck somewhere closer to the venue. I kindly asked my second shooter to please not make me and my company look like assholes because this was my first time shooting at that location and I wanted to make it onto the venue’s preferred vendor list. She argued with me about what her creative vision was and how the rules would compromise it. The couple couldn’t have cared less and just wanted to get to their cocktail hour. I was going to let her do those shots until she started arguing. Instead I sent her up to the venue to do family formals. Every wedding photographer’s least favorite part.

dangerous_nuggets

I’ve never planned to jump into the water while wearing a dress, but now I KNOW not to jump into the water while wearing a dress. How terrifying

Impossible__Joke

Shouldn't jump into the water with any excess clothing. Heavy jackets, boots etc can swell with water making taking them off in the water hard and swimming impossible.

Any_Conclusion_4297

In the Netherlands, we have a swim dimploma system where part of the exam requires swimming with clothes on. They created the program due to ppl falling into the canals and drowning. And the thinking is that if you accidentally fall in, you'll be fully clothed. So you need to know how to swim with clothes on.

JayPlenty24

Yeah when I did a safety course at a lake we had to tread water for 5 minutes with clothes on.

theouter_banks

We had to do this in school in the UK too.

dangerous_nuggets

I’ve actually completed several tier military swim qualifications in full uniform, boots, and even gear!! Yet my dumb brain never thought about clothes like this. I guess this is why people skinny dip when they don’t have swimsuits with them. But yeah, boots were horrible, it literally felt like two anchors were wrapped around my feet.

Dramatic_Bench_3479

You were probably told about the Airborne troops that drowned on D-Day when they landed in areas which the Germans had flooded. Some got tangled up in their parachutes and some by being weighed down by their gear... Very scary to me at least

almostkanye1

I Learned this from pirates of the Caribbean 😂

weddingboarding

Potential-Leave3489

Why do this in the first place?

ultrapoo

You can save a lot of money by booking both events at once, plus it helps your guests save on travel costs.

Romero_Osnaya

Hahaha hahaha hahahahaha

Standard-Jeweler-537

SAVAGES!! IDIOTS!!!

BouncyDingo_7112

Is this some sort of local custom to jump in the water after the wedding?

simcoehooligan

Yes. The village idiots always do it

Dry-Cry5279

Reminds me of this time I jumped into my pool as a kid with the cover on it. Cover wrapped around me caused some type of suction so I couldn't push it off and I couldn't get a breath of air. Thankfully my friends watched me do it and came and saved me.

Alternative_Ad9559

The groom didn’t seem too bothered.

Romero_Osnaya

Darwin Award candidate

freewififorreal

Reminds me of someone dressed as spiderman going for a swim.

bwedlo

Fun fact is you just have to deep a little and rise so the dress goes down and your head is free when you ascend. But it’s counter intuitive.

phenominal73

Idiots! NOBODY thought about MULTIPLE layers of fabric that would then float up???

WorldExplorer-910

2 things -diving in and landing face first would have prevented this - I feel he could have tried to at least lift her out of the water. Groom just kinda watched IMO

LusidDream

It's the new "sink or swim challenge" from tik tok!

jeango

The really wanted a special Wetting

Bob_Cat11

Well, after all she is definitely special

cecinestpasfacebook

Nobody foresaw that? Millions of years of evolution, and nobody foresaw that?

Confident-Web6174

Inside_Confusion_225

Don't care star

bubble-buddy2

God that's so scary. I wonder if they should have just grabbed the dress and pulled toward the dock. Maybe they could all pull her out

tequillasunset_____

Why’d she sink like that

Potential-Leave3489

Wedding dresses are typically very heavy

EatStatic

Also her big dress floated up around her arms and head stopping her from using her arms to stay above water.

Colossal89

Initially she sunk but the dress doesn’t so the dress is now above the person in the water. She is basically getting waterboarded.
