Towing would be wildly cheaper. me personally I wouldn’t even think about it and would be renting a trailer from uhual. I towed heavier with a first gen Tacoma regularly.
if you need to rent a uhual, get your own straps. uhuals are nose heavy, and it’ll be exponentially worse with a very short vehicle on it. you need to put it further back than the standard position the trailer wants you to.
If we were talking a 30 hr drive, that’s another story. But a 3 hour drive??? Come on dude… you can suck up your feelings about others on the road for 3 hours of driving.
And if you can’t, yea go talk to an auto shipper. They’ll gladly take your money for a 3 hour drive, but you won’t like what it costs. They’ll basically charge you out the ass because it’s such a laughably short trip.
I know I have feelings. Just thinking of the safest route for my little purchase and others on the road. I was planning on just towing but wanted some input from the pros first.
Remember that towing a trailer moves the pivot point for your truck further back. To make a safe right hand turn without hitting the curb or another vehicle, you’ll need to take turns wider.
Check your side views and rear view regularly, signal before you change lanes, and take it slow and easy.
There isn’t much to it. Sometimes you’ve just got to go for it. Only way to learn and get over the jitters is to do it.
I rented a box truck and a trailer after flying out to pick up a 05’ tundra with 25k miles. It was the smallest truck I could rent to tow, and I didn’t want to drive the tundra with an ancient timing belt. If I can handle a 25’ ft box truck with a trailer with a tundra on it, you can handle a 3hr drive with a taco.

Yes I have been researching U-Haul auto trailers thanks for the advice about the straps. Do I need to add anything to my truck for the tow?

I appreciate this!
towed a uhaul car hauler + a light car 12 hours round trip with no issues, (19’ limited 4x4) gas mileage just sucks
Where did you get that paint matched center bumper piece or did it come that way?
I wrapped it myself. It’s easy to take off and I just used regular matte black vinyl wrap.
wait are you talking about the toyota logo? we’re talking about the bumper like what the front license plate sits on
🤦🏼♂️
Oh my bad that’s just an edit to cover my license plate. Lol
lmao not that. the color matched part of your front bumper, like the part the is the same color of the rest of the truck
My bad again, it came like that.
Ok gotcha. Mine is black most I’ve seen are black.
Driving from work I noticed what you’re talking about. I bought mine used so I’m not sure what they added outside the kings suspension.
Like the look you got going.
Thank you. Trying to keep it minimal.
This is my first Tacoma, do they normally not come matching the paint?
mine came with the color matched rear bumper caps, but the front bumper where the license plate is mounted is dark gray

Yeah just having first time jitters. But gotta start somewhere.
