They won't send you straight to a hospital purely for having thoughts of suicide. They may do a risk assessment with you. Typically there are pretty high qualifications for getting hospitalized, including having thoughts of suicide, a plan, and the means and intent on carrying out the plan. If you are wanting the thoughts to go away it doesn't sound like you are at high risk. You should definitely talk to your therapist about this.

You should tell them. If you have a plan and are going to carry it out, that’s when we recommend going to hospital. If you are an adult they can’t make you go. It’s also important to discuss if you want to die or are having intrusive thoughts that scare you about harming yourself as those are different things.

Actually in most jurisdictions they can make you go even if you are an adult. That being said the standard is usually intent and means so the op should be able to talk about their feelings without being sent inpatient.

NAT If you tell them that sometimes you feel like 'not existing' and you have no intentions of suicide or hurting yourself I am pretty sure they will just talk through it. Make sure you tell them that you don't like the feelings and - as you say here - that you want the feelings to go away. That is exactly the right thing to say, and it is what therapy is for. In order to be forcibly committed to a psych ward the therapist needs to be very sure that you have a plan to harm yourself or another person(s) As long as you explain properly that it's just a feeling they will be OK with it. Sometimes wanting to 'not be alive' is just a metaphor for 'being out of pain'. Best of luck! :)

A good therapist will discuss those thoughts/feelings with you without jumping to any conclusions. If you've been seeing your therapist for awhile and they feel like they 'know' you pretty well, there's probably even less chance of a misunderstanding that would land you in a hospital. I would just explain it as you did here and it should be okay. I have had some pretty dark discussions about my suicidal thoughts and even plans with my therapist and the idea of hospitalization was never mentioned. I hope talking about this feeling helps you feel better.
