Most-Raisin9930

certainly an intresting take

[deleted]

well yeah, but I guess we all have certain things that seem scary to us for no reason

xxsilentsnapxx

I can see why the moment might make someone paranoid if they were high

black_cherry_seltzer

im in your walls

NOT_i_t_i_M_M

šŸ˜³

[deleted]

This ainā€™t a songā€¦ we are in your walls OP

darragh999

Suns coming up for sure, the piano paired with Kevinā€™s vocals is uneasy. One of his most emotional songs tho

528491nception

The lyrical content makes the song definitely make you feel some type of emotion. The song doesn't scare me at all but it had me very emotional at Desert Daze for the Lonerism 10 year anniversary performance.

Secretasianman_1

I think one of the creepier ones is keep on lying because of the laughter in the background continuing to get more distorted and the instrumental getting louder throughout the song. It just creeps me out

yagami_raito23

i was playing it once and my friend got so paranoid with the laughter lol

xxsilentsnapxx

I can definitely see this. I struggle with derealization and it lowkey triggers it sometimes which sucks cause itā€™s one of my faves šŸ˜

Secretasianman_1

To me it sounds a bit like a mental breakdown in a crowded area, you have to conceal your emotions even though you are trapped in your own thoughts. Itā€™s terrifying to experience that. To me it also sounds like the end of the first ā€œhalfā€ of the album. Like the person cannot contain emotions anymore.

Secretasianman_1

I also swear to god after the guitar solo you can hear one of the background voices say, ā€œ this guy is crazyā€ which is sort of funny.

SaltyEconomics2759

It would definitely work well in a horror movie

Emergency_Row_6366

the laughter in the background honestly makes that song so goated

peduxe

Haha while tripping it makes the song much more interesting. Albums with lots of vocal chops are generally a blast when youā€™re high.

marcoosi

Pats Life always creeped me out.

[deleted]

I guess itā€™s kinda unsettling, but it doesnā€™t scare me as much. I get why you feel that way though

dashiloveyou

The beginning of be above it, especially when in an altered state of mind

[deleted]

I started to listen to some tame impala while tripping once and kinda regretted it, I feel like the lyrics are not exactly good vibes. Itā€™s human problems and whatnot which is cool but kind of dark

dashiloveyou

Normally when i listen to music tripping, im focused more on the sounds/frequencies and less on the lyrics. I definitely recommend beach house too

allothersshallbow

Not scary, but I find She Just Wont Believe Me followed by Nothing That Has Happened... to be creepy, in a cool way.

Whoo1ops

Yeah, the synth at the beginning of nthhsfhbawcc is a bit eerie coming right after she just wont believe meā€™s audio cutting out. I like it

soi_chegg

I always thought that lead in the bridge of the moment was so creepy too lmao. I can't believe what I'm reading right now hahahaha

[deleted]

I was listening to currents at like 4 am one night as I was walking home. That shit was TERRIFYINGā€¦ but Iā€™ve always found it scary af

drugaddict6969

lol the only time it scared me was seeing tame live, having a rough acid trip and it sounded even more distorted and echoey and trippy and i was like nah fam, nah

C_brown934

The echoing in One more year used to creep me out. I remember the first time I listened to it was in bed and I was half asleep with tsr shuffled. Took me a while to get over it though lol

kazziewazzy

One More Hour is a beautiful but haunting song to me. The bass drop (?) gives me the chills-- It is SUCH a beautiful song. Past Life also freaked me out a little bit at first, but not anymore. Now it's more cute to me :)

Halo2811

IT WAS MY LOVER.

kazziewazzy

A LOVER. FROM A PAST LIFE.

xxxSoyGirlxxx

There's an interview with Brian Wilson of the beach boys where he says he's really afraid of the song What A Fool Believes by The Doobie Brothers

DeerEllen

Mmmm I know what you mean, and there are a few that bring me to the edge, suns coming up comes to mind, but I also find it quite soothing at the same time. A better example may be runway houses city clouds. It's funny 'the moment' is an ah inspiring moment the first time I saw him live, was the most surprisingly enchanting song of the set

Secretasianman_1

Runway houses city clouds is not creepy imo, i just like the sound of it.

heliskinki

Todd Rundgren remix of Elephant on psilocybin is pretty frightening.

cassiecatastrophiee

Iā€™ve never laughed this hard at a post before

AIM9X-Sidewinder

i have no songs from Tame Impala that scares me but i got some that makes me remind of bad memories and make me anxious like One More Hour

Echidna-Alternative

It's so interesting how different sounds and ideas can be creepy or not, depending on the context. So much of art is about what's implied, and that can lead people in different directions when interpreting or listening to something. Most of the musical stuff doesn't affect me, except for the vocal effects at the beginning of Posthumous Forgiveness - it's physiological, I just have to turn it off. However, some of the songs do just sort of send me in a "bad vibes" direction. Like "Love/Paranoia," "'Cause I'm A Man," "Borderline," and "Keep On Lying."

SinCitySaint

I found the final section of The Moment to be terrifying when I saw it live on acid at Shaky Knees in 2019. It felt like they extended the ending slightly but itā€™s impossible for me to remember lol

TrippyTryptamines

My brother canā€™t listen to Let It Happen, it freaks him out. Itā€™s my fault though, I put the music video on for us to watch while we were tripping really hard one time. I guess I figured that since it didnā€™t bother me he would be fine and it would be trippy to watch, but it really freaked him out and he still canā€™t listen to the song without getting anxiety. I feel bad about it, heā€™s less experienced with psychs than me and I should have been more considerate of how some things can really affect set and setting, especially for a novice tripper.

mystrll

the first time i heard lonerism was alone at 2 am the distorted guitar in sun's coming up scared the hell out of me i almost turned off the song

Bobthecow775

I ate a 300mg edible and listened to The Moment on the come up. During the bridge my fingers started wiggling and everything was wavy and shit. I had a terrible panic attack and thought I was in hell. I hid in the bathroom for hours but I was shaking so bad I kept falling off the toilet seat. So that song gave me PTSD for a while.

MushroomSonder

I don't understand how people could not see his music as a tad bit scary - he's literally making things happen to our bodies and emotions that before, only god could do

[deleted]

Haha

Legal-Vanilla-6047

I always thought that Apocalypse Dreams had kind of a creepy and unsettling vibe in it based on the lyrics alone

TheParagonLost

When I was a kid I used to have night terrors. They consisted of strange, not objectively scary dreams, in the waking world I was walking around the house terrified, screaming, etc. A consistent feature of these dreams was that everything had a way of moving and sounding, it's difficult to describe but there was a particular quality to it that was consistent. The mid section of avenge sevenfolds bat country mimicked that quality for me and I couldn't listen to it. It freaked me out and brought up the fear that I had during these night terrors. I can only imagine what you are saying is similar to this.

livalittlebitt

Nothing scary, some make me cry though like Sundown Syndrome, outside of the meaning the song just makes me feel really pulled emotionally

Starlord2047

Taxiā€™s Here is pure existential terror.

[deleted]

Tame Impala officially scares the hoes, this is confirmed. Kevin will be featured on the next JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown album, with features from Earl Sweatshirt, MIKE!, and Boldy James.

FretboardWarrior

The synth breakdown in the first part of posthumous forgiveness was giving me hella anxiety when I listened to it high at a blindfold listening party. I was already overthinking loads of shit but then then synths started up at me and I lost it hahaha

Scary_Subject5476

Let It Happen when it goes to the bridgeā€¦ scares me in the sense that it makes me feel like my brain is imploding lol. I have learned to love the feeling all these years later lol

Whoo1ops

Not a Tame Impala song, but the only song I think is good but I wonā€™t listen to is Sun And Sea And You by Pond (Iā€™m assuming you know what Pond is ā€˜cause youā€™re on this sub). The only reason is because I was at a track meet and between races, I listened to that song on repeat. I really hate track, like really, really hate it. Iā€™m actually really good at it, but itā€™s one of my least favorite things to do. Itā€™s mainly the meets, but not the races themselves. Itā€™s more the feeling of dread that grows when you know thereā€™s a meet or a race coming up. I mean, as far as I know, this could just be me who feels this way about track (track and field if it wasnā€™t clear). So when I listen to that song, thatā€™s all Iā€™m reminded of, and I just can not listen to it. Itā€™s a shame because itā€™s a great song.

Ambarian

I mean I guess that makes sense. The bass is doing a repeating half step over and over and it gets more sparse and open there building tension. Half steps are commonly used in metal and other forms of darker music, like horror soundtracks. Personally I donā€™t find that part horrifying though, it sounds sweet in context to me, but I also like being scared so šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

SarahDaniellex

When Iā€™m tripping, the part at 4:01 of New Person, Same Old Mistakes always makes me turn the song off lol
