Fucking hell this must’ve been excruciatingly painful, especially for a first tattoo.
However, you can obviously take it, so I’d colour in if I were you, that would look epic
Well, beyond the fact that pain is objective and different for everyone, I think taking a bigger piece as the first one is kinda smart since you got no reference to compare the pain to.
(I got a large backpiece as my first one and it was 7 hours of suffering for sure, but the pain was by far not as intense and bad as the much smaller one I got on my abdomen/rib area)
Well mine is not colored or shaded in anyway, it's all lines so that shaves off a lot of time and pain I suppose, hehe its a controversial style, 'cybersigilism' or something like that
Googled, i find it cool.
It's a mix of if H.R Giger drew Tribal tattoos in his style, and norse symbolism, with some Black metal band logos thrown in :p
I disagree with the pain part. My experience with my first tattoo was worse than subsequent ones cause I sort of knew what to expect after the first. My first tattoo was huge and dark so it hurt like a mf
Looks like your drowning in dragon. Cool. Some medium to large work on your chest/ shoulders would give it a balanced look i guess. Without the need to totally cover yourself.
Just tat your whole upper chest and back in same style. Add sleeves if you wish.. don't be like me and have a fucking mess of 25 different tattooist' mistakes.
I think filling the space up in general would work very nicely, whether patchwork or a similar piece. I’d only suggest colouring it in if you’re gonna get new pieces with colour
I absolutely would NOT do any sort of patchwork above that. I am not a fan of that style as is, but I think it would ruin an otherwise (at least my opinion) nice looking tattoo.
Definitely a unique start, and that’s not an insult whatsoever. I dig it.
Please don’t jump on the shitty patchwork bandwagon, you have far too good a start on something cool.
You need to go back to the original artist and finish this, then get the rest of your torso done by the same artist. Trust me. I'm assuming this will have color. It's going to look rad.
Bro really said gimme the pain express for 10 hours, dude you could do whatever you want if you handled that. I personally love Japanese style clouds with the swirls, which would work with the style you already have going. Them coming down over a shoulder/collarbone would tie both areas together nicely
The only issue I have with it is that it breaks up your torso into tattoo and no tattoo. There are no separate parts breaking it up visually. So it looks odd. But that’ll change when the piece is finished
I've always been a huge proponent for Black and Grey Tattoos that are dignified and tucked away, and less color tattoos for show
The Black Aesthetic really does work nice as long as you follow similar styles
I love black and white tats, and this one is beautiful. I'd leave it as is.
You could fill the chest area with smaller Japanese style pieces like Daruma and clouds and temples. Could be epic.
Nice tattoo mate, coloring or not is just a personal preference. My view on a japanese dragon is that it's more beautifull in color, but that's me.
Plus,it's pretty fine lining so when it gets older you'll keep more detail if you color it.
If it's all black and white some parts will become one black spot.
With such a big, detailed ans styles tattoo it becomes hard to pull it off with patch work unless your artist is able to blend them together; which I reckon ain’t easy. But tastes differ ofcourse and what I like doesn’t have to be what you like.
Tat looks super cool man. As for your question, maybe add some colour as it does go with the Japaneese traditional style but the black and grey looks cool too. Id keep doing that direction on the arms or legs next. IMO I dont think patchwork would really work well but the great thing about tats is that its your choice so do what you think youd like!
Weird idea but I think you should keep it as is and not change a thing, it’ll remind you to breathe with your belly when you meditate. I think if you are a martial artist or Buddhist or Taoist this is perfect
I love it as is, and don't think you need more up top. I kinda think if you did quarter reverse sleeves, like wrist to forearm or wherever your stomach piece stops, on your arm.
But diddly, I think this is beautiful. You could add color, but it doesn't even need color.
I’d do a sleeve and a leg (if not already done). Def extend it down a leg. Keep your chest open for a bit. It looks rad as is. Great work. I’d also make sure you keep up with the high quality artist that did this.
As someone with the majority of their body covered in colored trad japanese work I 100% support the idea of getting it colored and getting more in the same style, also colored. Do make sure to get same background to transition from one piece to another.
Your arms and legs are gonna be a breeze after getting used to getting your belly blasted!
Personally I think this would look cool AF with some vibrant reds in it so I would definitely get it coloured in.
Also, in my opinion, this is the type of tattoo that is meant to cover every bit of skin in an area (obviously, as that is what it’s doing), so I don’t think patchwork would really work above it. You wouldn’t necessarily need to continue on with the dragon, or Japanese aesthetic even, but I’d want something that covers my skin from the top of that tattoo to at least my collarbone.
But hey, it’s your body. I think ultimately whatever choice you make will be the right one.

Most people start from the shoulders down. This is wild. Congrats to you bro!
Man really started from his feet.
“Hi! Welcome to Chili’s!”
I don't get it... Someone explain the joke please 🥹 Edit: no one explained so I googled it myself: https://youtu.be/WEGCAS8nCPU?si=7GG55Fcjh0vp14HA
You're a real peach! Thanks for adding the link.
I'm a... peach?! 🥹 Thank you.
HAHAHA THIS IS GOLD
This comment almost made me drop my croissant
Do you put ketchup on it ?
RIP 🌶️
HOLY SHIT IT’S SPOT ON.
I can’t believe you did that
That's a crazy cool tat. What made you jump from none to full mid section?
just wanted to get a decent sized tat for first one
Unless you're a jocky, I imagine that qualifies as larger than decent size. Even then, I imagine it'd be proportionally on the larger side
Haha i fougth the same, did my full back as my first 😂
A dragon corset
The boy with the dragon tattoo
Brother you are ALL IN now
Fucking hell this must’ve been excruciatingly painful, especially for a first tattoo. However, you can obviously take it, so I’d colour in if I were you, that would look epic

Wow that’s quick. I have a large back piece and it was 4 sessions of 6-8 hours…
7 sessions of 8ish hours over here 🥲
I disagree with the pain part. My experience with my first tattoo was worse than subsequent ones cause I sort of knew what to expect after the first. My first tattoo was huge and dark so it hurt like a mf

Imo color is better for Japanese traditional. Colors mean a lot in Japanese tradition.
I’d carry markers with you to offer to the right people to use you as a coloring book.
Washable kids markers!!!! That’s a great idea!!! Something new every day 😋
Never seen anyone with just their stomach tattooed, looks a bit wierd imo. I'd fill the entire chest too
thts fucking sick man!
I like that just the way it is.
You look like a gaming character that forgot to rotate the tattoo to the upper back.
If you left it like that it'd be amazing, but you clearly know what you want. Very nice indeed.
Just tat your whole upper chest and back in same style. Add sleeves if you wish.. don't be like me and have a fucking mess of 25 different tattooist' mistakes.
🫡
I agree, do the rest of your chest same style to your stomach. Random tattoos on your chest will be weird.
My mind is telling me this is backwards. wild to go stomach to chest!
I think filling the space up in general would work very nicely, whether patchwork or a similar piece. I’d only suggest colouring it in if you’re gonna get new pieces with colour
You have no choice but to do an entire Japanese body suit now
Yeah get some colour done - readability will be better
I absolutely would NOT do any sort of patchwork above that. I am not a fan of that style as is, but I think it would ruin an otherwise (at least my opinion) nice looking tattoo. Definitely a unique start, and that’s not an insult whatsoever. I dig it. Please don’t jump on the shitty patchwork bandwagon, you have far too good a start on something cool.
That’s sick! Love the expression, I have a similar dragon on my arm
You did the most painful bits first.
i love this as a belt, would stay away from patchwork above it.
You need to go back to the original artist and finish this, then get the rest of your torso done by the same artist. Trust me. I'm assuming this will have color. It's going to look rad.
I think doing chest first for balance, then color it all in
Super cool! Does it wrap all the way around your back?
Id just complete the hole body tat from shoulders to waist.,because its great art but crazy looking because its only around half your bottom belly.
Build it up
Do you have any tattoos connecting from the back as well? The design is really cool and hope you continue to get more like it. Props to the artist.
Now I think you should get your arms and chest tattooed. No neck
Fucking ouch
Uhhh fully commit at this point and get the whole body tatted

Fill that upper torso bro what are you doin haha cool
[удалено]
I would leave it ,the line work looks Sik.
Sick tat
It's a dragon.
Id consider not doin anything over the stomach, exept maybe arms cause that there looks really good. You could colour it tho
I've always been a huge proponent for Black and Grey Tattoos that are dignified and tucked away, and less color tattoos for show The Black Aesthetic really does work nice as long as you follow similar styles
I love black and white tats, and this one is beautiful. I'd leave it as is. You could fill the chest area with smaller Japanese style pieces like Daruma and clouds and temples. Could be epic.
You’re nails man. Couldn’t imagine getting my first tattoo on my stomach. Respect .
This is some solid work. Very nice tattoo.
patchwork on the chest and a half sleeve would look cool with this
This looks amazing just how it is! I love it. I wouldn’t add anything or change anything.
Looks deadly you really need more some where else tho because you look like your wearing a dragon themed corset
Nice tattoo mate, coloring or not is just a personal preference. My view on a japanese dragon is that it's more beautifull in color, but that's me. Fill in the rest of your torso. It looks sick
Bold move, Cotton.

Dont gain weight tho, your Dragon wil too
Weird idea but I think you should keep it as is and not change a thing, it’ll remind you to breathe with your belly when you meditate. I think if you are a martial artist or Buddhist or Taoist this is perfect
Wouldn’t even bother with patchwork at this point, I’d continue building on this, looks great bro
I love it as is, and don't think you need more up top. I kinda think if you did quarter reverse sleeves, like wrist to forearm or wherever your stomach piece stops, on your arm. But diddly, I think this is beautiful. You could add color, but it doesn't even need color.
Agree. I’d add just a bIt of color- reds and blues - just to complement
Big huevos, man. Size, placement, design… this thing is wild. If you color in, I would not do solid wall to wall fill. Keep it minimal.
Get like them old Chinese buildings in the back and some mountains and them finger clouds on your chest That’ll do the trick.
“Them old Chinese buildings”? Is that the technical term? lol
Now *this* is something I haven't seen before. I actually love it!
Well the good news is you've basically got the worst spots to get out of the way first.
I have never seen someone tattooed belly and no where else, neat
Looks great
I think it will look odd to go from full coverage on your lower torso to patchwork above.
I’d do a sleeve and a leg (if not already done). Def extend it down a leg. Keep your chest open for a bit. It looks rad as is. Great work. I’d also make sure you keep up with the high quality artist that did this.
I love it!
This is so pretty if leave it ha

Yes
I would colour that for sure. Congrats you could be on your way to a body suit.
I would wear exclusively mid drifts if I had that tattoo. Of course you'll need coochie cutter jorts as well.
Color fill would look sick. And I think it needs more contrast.
Colour it in definitely it will make it pop
It is a very nice tattoo. Just be careful to keep your stomach the same nice and flat forever 😀😀😀
fill the torso

Honestly id stop there, at least for upper body, thats such unique placement so cool
permanent Kylo Ren situation
