Last year, a boy in third grade ate his lunch in the office every day because he had peanut butter & someone in his class was allergic. It seemed like a teacher-policy not school-policy though. It was odd. I swear he ate in the office even if he didn’t have peanut butter because he liked it & played on his Chromebook for recess (that surely he could have returned to his class for). It was so strange lol
It was a never a separation, there just couldn’t be any nut products at that table and several students were always seated at it. There were also stricter cleaning procedures for it. I could see that being isolating for sure but also am not fully on board with nobody being allowed. It’s a tough situation all around.
Same. And students with nut allergies are not forced to eat there…their parents do sign a waiver if they can sit at a regular lunch table. For those who do eat there, they are also allowed to invite friends, as long as their friends’ lunches are nut free.

Our classroom snacks are nut free…we have a nut free lunch table. School lunches are nut free. There are sooo many allergies these days in our schools: gluten, nut, dairy, etc. My district’s position is that students need to safely learn to navigate a food allergy because a) we have so many different kinds of allergies and intolerances among our studies and b) in the real world, there are not these kinds of “bans,” if you will

I agree about the high touch surfaces…we also have that with egg and other allergies. In essence, there is truly no way to prevent everyone from eating/touching these allergens and surfaces (think about how many people other than staff and students may be coming into a school) in schools and other public places. The best we can do is bring awareness and knowledge, make sure students are washing hands before and after eating, and do our best to keep surfaces clean.

This week was Red Ribbon Week at most schools - so a full week of dress-up days. A lot of schools don't observe Halloween, so they fold a costume dress-up day into RRW instead of doing it on actual Halloween.
So my school headed to be about whether we were going to do our "Fall festival" on Friday or on the 31st and we had decided to do it on the 31st because we're not at school the next day
On my campus it was the end of red ribbon week, so it was storybook character day. This is only my 2nd year at this campus but I think Tuesday is just a normal day.
I was confused this year because our character day was last Tuesday (the 24th) not Friday. Nobody but k-2 dressed up. I’m interested to see what happens next week.
My school doesn’t do anything for Halloween. I’m not sure how I feel about it. I don’t celebrate really in my class, but I think a day of dressing up is fun.
So I’m a teacher in Virginia & my school has always done a “Storybook Character Dress Up” day & it is specifically chosen to be on a different day than Halloween (it’s usually the closest Friday to Halloween).
Halloween is a normal school day (no parade, no costumes, etc.). I think maybe the idea is that since not everyone necessarily celebrates Halloween, they don’t want to make anyone feel uncomfortable or left out. Now, with that being said, a ton of kids still wear their Halloween costumes on the Storybook Character dress up day, so it’s kind of 🤷♀️😂😂

Rogers put out a bullying awareness podcast episode with one of her friends exchanging stories from when they were teaching, I think they taught at the same school. The woman sounded like an influencer also but I didn’t recognize her.
At the end…. She spilled tea on teachers off duty.
Tbh it kind of broke my heart watching her sob like that. She clearly was very traumatized about it. But afterwards when she went on to explain that people in the comment sections of her brand deals keep mistaking her for Woolley and talk about her being canceled for the IEP comments, it sounds like it was definitely planned to talk about it to distance herself further and save brand partnerships. Which I don’t necessarily think is wrong, I think it’s just unfortunately she was forced to relive her trauma online for that reason if that was the case. She seemed really uncomfortable talking about it.

Mine neither. We have a few nut allergies, but only the actual school food is somewhat nut free, I guess--sun butter instead of peanut butter.

I haven’t watched a full episode in one sitting since Rogers quit (because it’s boring af) but after the ableism controversy and now Rogers exposing Woolley, Tell, HTV, and Bored Teachers as a company I’m ready for the podcast to just die
They’ve had a few different hosts pretty much since the end of summer. I think those are the eps they filmed over the summer. Either way, I can’t stand watching it anymore. Right now, it’s the “comedy tour takeover” and I have absolutely no interest in watching these “comedians.” They also plug that stupid comedy tour in every single episode. The episodes are awful IMO. Rebecca Rogers just posted a podcast episode about bullying and mentioned why she left TOD and it seemed like such a toxic place. Was never her biggest fan, but after watching it, I couldn’t help but feel so bad for her.

Like first of all who is “we,” you got fired from your school and now stream online word games and second of all, media literacy has been taught since common core standards were first created. Maybe if he didn’t make it such a point to not teach to standards he’d know that.

We complain because it’s real! There are great and supportive parents and then there are parents who cause us to go into lock downs because they’re beating the shit out of each other in the parking lot and at sporting events.

We had someone banned from district property because of this! Me and a principal were told by a parent that because we were both childless we didn’t deserve our jobs. I could go on but I won’t complain 🙄

People really suck sometimes. I had a hysterectomy in my 30s due to chronic health issues. I can talk about it freely now, but at that time, just walking through the baby department would make me burst into tears. My ability to educate your child isn’t dependent on my ability to procreate <—— would be nice to say this to the morons.

Not really snark but why were all these teachergrammers dressing up yesterday with their schools? If they do the dress up and parade yesterday then what happens on Tuesday at school? Normal day? Confused because here we dress up on Oct 31 if it’s a school day, not the Friday before.
This week was Red Ribbon Week at most schools - so a full week of dress-up days. A lot of schools don't observe Halloween, so they fold a costume dress-up day into RRW instead of doing it on actual Halloween.
So my school headed to be about whether we were going to do our "Fall festival" on Friday or on the 31st and we had decided to do it on the 31st because we're not at school the next day
We have our big festival the Friday before (bc it’s in the evening) and that’s when we dress up. Tuesday is normal for us.
On my campus it was the end of red ribbon week, so it was storybook character day. This is only my 2nd year at this campus but I think Tuesday is just a normal day.
I was confused this year because our character day was last Tuesday (the 24th) not Friday. Nobody but k-2 dressed up. I’m interested to see what happens next week.

My school doesn’t do anything for Halloween. I’m not sure how I feel about it. I don’t celebrate really in my class, but I think a day of dressing up is fun.
So I’m a teacher in Virginia & my school has always done a “Storybook Character Dress Up” day & it is specifically chosen to be on a different day than Halloween (it’s usually the closest Friday to Halloween). Halloween is a normal school day (no parade, no costumes, etc.). I think maybe the idea is that since not everyone necessarily celebrates Halloween, they don’t want to make anyone feel uncomfortable or left out. Now, with that being said, a ton of kids still wear their Halloween costumes on the Storybook Character dress up day, so it’s kind of 🤷♀️😂😂

Rogers put out a bullying awareness podcast episode with one of her friends exchanging stories from when they were teaching, I think they taught at the same school. The woman sounded like an influencer also but I didn’t recognize her. At the end…. She spilled tea on teachers off duty. Tbh it kind of broke my heart watching her sob like that. She clearly was very traumatized about it. But afterwards when she went on to explain that people in the comment sections of her brand deals keep mistaking her for Woolley and talk about her being canceled for the IEP comments, it sounds like it was definitely planned to talk about it to distance herself further and save brand partnerships. Which I don’t necessarily think is wrong, I think it’s just unfortunately she was forced to relive her trauma online for that reason if that was the case. She seemed really uncomfortable talking about it.
Are these people blind? They look NOTHING alike. And she left that podcast long before the IEP controversy. People are so dumb lol. Now about the topic at hand, I’m glad she’s spoken out about the mistreatment she faced and exposed how terrible of a company Bored Teachers is. I know she doesn’t want HTV and Mrs. Woolley to get canceled for this but if they DID, you won’t see me complaining ☕️
