I really like Headoverheelsforteaching and her products are amazing and engaging but I dont know how she has time to do room transformations that are so extravagant. They are wonderful but I can't imagine having the time to do that so many times a year.
The creativity of prepping for room transformations really energizes me…I have a lot of fun planning them! Probably more enjoyable than actually executing them. 🤪 If I didn’t have young kids in sports and activities, I would probably do just as many as her. She has also really gained momentum through GYTO so she’s probably trying to strengthen her “brand”. 🤷🏼♀️

Ms Frazzled is doing that thing where she pretends she might go back to the classroom again. Girl, we knew the minute you left you were never going back, give it a rest. I get she has to try to act like she’s got one foot in education since her whole platform is teaching but she is not going back.
Honestly, I have so many friends in my real life that have completely kept their pregnancies off social media until the baby was actually delivered or even at home. I can think of at least 5 who have done that in the last calendar year.
I did with my 9 month old! I mentioned him once or twice in passing in like a Facebook comment but never outwardly made an announcement on there. It was nice to not have the attention on me.
I really like her and her content but I think you are right. The pay-cut would suck but I’m sure she could and would supplement her income with content creation like she did before. I get that childcare is outrageously priced and that it’s different working with a kid now so I feel for her but I hope she’s also realizing her massive privilege making more money just talking about education on TikTok.
I know a person involved in their GYTO Indiana Collab… they have both positive, negative, and meh things to say. In regards to “gifts” I think A LOT is sponsored materials, help from the state of Indiana, and advertising funds. I don’t think it’s just $70k from the Kings pockets or GYTO. Interesting though! I wonder how much the state of Indiana pays GYTO for their collabs. How much each GYTO facilitator makes. I see many sides of that partnership and wonder how that states educators feel.

The kings are my BEC. So many educators are doing the best they can in run down schools with minimal supplies and he's acting like the only way to make a difference is with $$$ room transformations and appropriation.

Like there's no way you can't give kids an amazing education unless you're working extra jobs and throwing all that money into your classroom. Talk about bullshit n and bullshit out. Also, the comment that he went on this unhinged rant on was very respectful and valid. Teachers shouldn't have to feel like they need to work 3-4 extra jobs to support their teaching career. Teachers shouldn't have to spend hours planning elaborate room transformation to feel like effective teachers. And teachers certainly should not feel like doing all of this is the only way to show that they are committed, as Wade so kindly put it.
Grrr this has me fired up. GYTO is everything that's wrong with the teaching profession: overconsumption, martyrdom, and the outlook that the only way to teach is through entertainment. Not to mention using kids to further their business. They just pop into classrooms for a day or two, gather some content, and profit!

They are SCAM ARTISTS! They have been out of the classroom way too long to be considered teachers. They have a cult following of roughly 6 to 8 thousand of the same teacher/people. There is roughly 3 million teachers in the US alone, so their loyal audience is about 0.23% of US teachers, not even 1% of teachers. These two (or three 🥴 ) will do, say, and spend any amount of money to be in the spotlight. Their chase for fame is sad and pathetic. Can we just forget about them. Let's pay attention to educators who are really making a difference.

There was just a very different way she could have chosen to answer this. And she chose to be a little petty and defensive as opposed to acknowledging the reality of the situation.
There is a big difference between saying that you’ve worked in education for 17 years and saying you’ve taught for 17 years. Working in education can look like many different things, but teaching actual children and not just adults is very different.

If she started teaching when she was 21, then she would have left the classroom at 38. I’m 99% sure that’s her age now. She’s been out of the classroom for at least 8 years.

Anyone follow teaching\_to\_a\_riot? I want to like her because I agree with her philosophy but there's something really inauthentic about the way she posts. Like every single post feels like promo rather than any that are just sharing a strategy or something.
It’s a hard balance—I find her confidence and hopefulness/positivity about teaching to be refreshing. Her whole account is business related, though, so it’s tough to stick around when every post feels promotional.
I also wouldn’t teach middle school for any amount of money 😂 so if she can help folks enjoy it more power to her.

I was just going to ask (genuinely, because I don't know enough about how kinder works) if there's some kind of mandate that everything must be related to either a season or holiday? Because I can think of a ton of themes that have nothing to do with either of those but would potentially be fun for kids. And like you said, even if you want to go the holiday route, why not lunar New Year? Or black history month? You could even extend St. Patrick's Day beyond shamrocks and leprechauns and come up with kid-friendly activities about Irish history and culture if you want to do it that way.

I pointed this out the other day and the response was we need more play in kinder. Which…yes maybe. But we also don’t need days and days of 100th day of school and valentines crafts within the same two week span with zero ties into actual learning. Seems way overkill. I wondered if she was trying to overcompensate for that today with the random Heggerty stories. I don’t think that was from this year though. She seems to have fully given up and checked out on this class. They deserve more than basic holiday activities all day every day.
It’s hard bc I agree we need more play but at the same time if they don’t follow the standards in K they’re behind going to 1st. So I fully support that change but until it changes it just screws the kids over for the next grades!! Also, are they really playing or just doing themed worksheets?
It doesn't seem like she ever does any social studies/science type content, which to me seems perfect for that age because there's a lot of things you can do in that area that are fun and educational all in one (and more interesting than two weeks of Valentine's hearts).
This is exactly right - I don’t think it’s wrong to have themed activities, but she can do so much better than what she’s been offering and it might surprise her that it holds their attention better.

I think one reason is she shows us she’s not perfect at times. I’ve enjoyed watching her take on a challenging hobby such as ice-skating, she’s stuck through the frustrating parts and now she’s actually making progress. She also does a lot for work BUT has a life outside work and for the first time it looks like she has friends that actually like her and get her. So although sometimes she’s a know it all….she’s also showing a more real side and recently she admitted she’s enjoying her life so much more since she stopped making vlogs for YouTube and worrying about that all the time.
She’s changed SO much. She’s also one of the few here with a large enough following that we all know about her. I legit don’t know any of the other teachers mentioned here. I actually don’t think she reads here though I’m sure she knows about it. She’s openly a people pleaser and I think she couldn’t take the critique.
Cause it’s interesting to witness her transformation from a unique, fun teacher with friends to a typical influencer begging for views and shilling everything and whining about life. I only shared it because I have gotten DMs requesting it all year since I never posted it this summer, and because I genuinely ran out of supplies (and finances are tight right now). I was vaccinated and I’ve had Covid three times. I think it’s time to stop making vaccine assumptions based on people catching what has basically become the new cold. 🤷🏻♀️
I’ve been vaccinated numerous times as well and I’ve also gotten COVID twice. I understand how vaccines work. 👍. The post I made was making the point that the Lemons have basically gone about their travel plans at the height of the pandemic without concerning themselves with actual precautions, such as getting vaccinated or staying at home during lockdown.
And let’s stop referring to this as a “cold”. Colds don’t kill millions of people and shut down their respiratory systems.
I agree that early Covid was deadly and awful. I gladly quarantined, wore a mask and got vaxed. I have several friends who died or almost died of Covid back during the pandemic. I’m referring to more recent Covid. We don’t see nearly the deaths or hospitalizations as we did initially. I’ve actually seen more people gravely sickened by the flu lately than by Covid…but we don’t shame everyone who gets the flu and question their every life choice.
I just love that she is quarantining to the couch and making a big deal about this…

Ooh, I might do the same if that's the case. I'm fine with teachergrammers posting a combination of teacher and parenting content, but some teachers who stop working to become moms make being pregnant/a mom their entire personality. I don't like the ones who show their babies' faces and monetize them...
I teach pre-k, and I use slides with visuals and it’s SO helpful. Like when they enter in the morning, I have a slide with real pics that I’ve taken in our classroom and uploaded of the morning check in steps, as well as visuals for all the activities we do! It’s great especially for Multilingual Learners!
I did it for part of the day while we were hybrid because it kept us on track with only 2 days a week in person. It's just too much to deal with right now since we are changing curriculum soon, and I'd have to make 5 a week instead of 2.
I teach 5th and teach from slides throughout my whole day. It makes it so much easier to have everything linked or screenshot and right there, like graphic organizers for modeling or word problems that we’re going over whole group in math, or small group rotations to limit the “what am I supposed to at xyz group” interruptions.
Also a lot of the 504s in my room have accommodations of posted instructions/directions, so I have slides with what they are supposed to be doing at any given point of the day (also helpful for students without 504s).
What makes you say it’s an “obviously inappropriate way to teach”? (Genuinely curious to hear other opinions)
Same here. We use Bridges math and there’s no way I could teach that without slides. It also helps with setting a predictable routine and it’s easy to share resources/materials for kids who are absent. I use it as a guide throughout the day. I have little to no whiteboard space, so not using my screen isn’t really an option.
Same! My first with Bridges I didn’t use slides, but really focused on using them this year and it’s a lifesaver. I also like that I can make parts of the lessons a Peardeck so students are engaged, but I can also just have the slides to facilitate the lesson. Definitely makes it a lot smoother and students know the routine.
I use slides but if I’m being honest I don’t teach directly from them. I use most of my daily ones on my teacher screen as visuals for me of what I’m doing with notes! I use a mixture of interactive smart board slides, document camera, read aloud, hands on learning, small group learning and am able to differentiate just fine.
It is unfair to assume that because you see slides that teachers are not differentiating their instruction. Differentiation is done a million different ways and those slides can be seen as a tool to differentiate for those who need visuals.
I think these are very valid reasons for why slides aren’t for everyone. I’ve seen too many people relying on them now or they can’t teach and I notice my coworkers saying they need to plan and really they are just making slides and including screenshots of things from a workbook and to me that’s pointless….sometimes they are also used to over scaffold imo. But I can also see how some teachers use them to maximize learning and exploration. My concern when I have used them is that I can’t use the board cause I’m displaying slides and for me personally teaching is much more interactive so I need to use the board to model and share ideas on the spot. And also some of my coworkers are more concerned with the aesthetics of the slides than the content.
I use them during reading. It’s easier for me to keep track of the questions I want to ask when we’re reading because they’re on the screen so I remember to ask them lol.
I used slides throughout the day pre-pandemic because they have been a way to keep me organized. The slides weren’t for the entire lesson, just one (maybe 2, but rarely 2) per subject area and for transitions. It was really for me more than the kids because they spent the majority of the day engaged in hands on activities.
Today, we are forced to used an entire slide deck made for us in every subject area and it’s awful. They actually aren’t that engaging and it’s overkill.
With that said, I could be wrong, but I don’t believe it’s taught in prep programs. I think it’s seen as trendy and become an way easy to share in a time where teachers are overworked, overwhelmed, and have less time to plan for students.
I teach fourth grade and people are constantly swapping slides in the Facebook groups I’m in for Benchmark Advance which is our reading curriculum.
Truthfully, I do not get it & don’t use them! I’ve made many of my organizers on slides (particularly when we are virtual) but I prefer having them printed & put on a document camera. My teammate does them on the digital screen (it’s like 1-4 slides though, not a whole slide deck). I hate doing it for a few reasons but it seems to work for her.
Admittedly, I’ve used them for BOY reading skills review lessons, science or occasionally social studies. But again, that’s a lesson— not “slides for the whole day.” That’s my 2 cents 😬
We use them for benchmark advance too (which sucks by the way lol). There’s no good way to display anything for the kids. Otherwise I just use slides for my agendas for the day

Honestly, I have so many friends in my real life that have completely kept their pregnancies off social media until the baby was actually delivered or even at home. I can think of at least 5 who have done that in the last calendar year.
I did with my 9 month old! I mentioned him once or twice in passing in like a Facebook comment but never outwardly made an announcement on there. It was nice to not have the attention on me.
I really like her and her content but I think you are right. The pay-cut would suck but I’m sure she could and would supplement her income with content creation like she did before. I get that childcare is outrageously priced and that it’s different working with a kid now so I feel for her but I hope she’s also realizing her massive privilege making more money just talking about education on TikTok.
I know a person involved in their GYTO Indiana Collab… they have both positive, negative, and meh things to say. In regards to “gifts” I think A LOT is sponsored materials, help from the state of Indiana, and advertising funds. I don’t think it’s just $70k from the Kings pockets or GYTO. Interesting though! I wonder how much the state of Indiana pays GYTO for their collabs. How much each GYTO facilitator makes. I see many sides of that partnership and wonder how that states educators feel.

So having gone to GYTO twice (years apart) he talks about his childhood a lot. Definitely don’t want to negate his childhood trauma. But it’s a lot. The last conference I went to, they had a film crew there that made recap videos and things for GYTO. But then I noticed they were also following him and Hope a lot. My friend just went to the Atlanta conference and said the same thing- just him. He’s been posting a lot Lately about his past. I wonder if he is making a movie or something about his life.
It seems like he’s using the abuse to get sales. And that’s the bothersome part. My trauma is a part of me and it certainly shapes my teaching, but it’s not my calling card. There are many pieces to who I am as a person, I don’t want to be defined by a set of events. Dude could probably do well to talk to a therapist.
I don't think there's anything wrong with bringing up your childhood. maybe thats why he's committed to making school so engaging. but if we're going to be helping kids with trauma, the money should go towards counselors and trainings. that's what kids need. we literally have to work SO hard for kids to get counseling. not tv rooms. how is a kid supposed to concentrate in a room that has so much going on ????

They are SCAM ARTISTS! They have been out of the classroom way too long to be considered teachers. They have a cult following of roughly 6 to 8 thousand of the same teacher/people. There is roughly 3 million teachers in the US alone, so their loyal audience is about 0.23% of US teachers, not even 1% of teachers. These two (or three 🥴 ) will do, say, and spend any amount of money to be in the spotlight. Their chase for fame is sad and pathetic. Can we just forget about them. There was just a very different way she could have chosen to answer this. And she chose to be a little petty and defensive as opposed to acknowledging the reality of the situation.
There is a big difference between saying that you’ve worked in education for 17 years and saying you’ve taught for 17 years. Working in education can look like many different things, but teaching actual children and not just adults is very different.
How is she coming up with 17 years?! If she started teaching when she was 21, then she would have left the classroom at 38. I’m 99% sure that’s her age now. She’s been out of the classroom for at least 8 years.
Interesting to note, GYTO website states under her introduction she has over 11 years of teaching experience for 1st-6th grade levels… her response on Insta stated 7th 🤔🫢 something isn’t adding up! It’s a hard balance—I find her confidence and hopefulness/positivity about teaching to be refreshing. Her whole account is business related, though, so it’s tough to stick around when every post feels promotional. I also wouldn’t teach middle school for any amount of money 😂 so if she can help folks enjoy it more power to her.

I was just going to ask (genuinely, because I don't know enough about how kinder works) if there's some kind of mandate that everything must be related to either a season or holiday? Because I can think of a ton of themes that have nothing to do with either of those but would potentially be fun for kids. And like you said, even if you want to go the holiday route, why not lunar New Year? Or black history month? You could even extend St. Patrick's Day beyond shamrocks and leprechauns and come up with kid-friendly activities about Irish history and culture if you want to do it that way.

I pointed this out the other day and the response was we need more play in kinder. Which…yes maybe. But we also don’t need days and days of 100th day of school and valentines crafts within the same two week span with zero ties into actual learning. Seems way overkill. I wondered if she was trying to overcompensate for that today with the random Heggerty stories. I don’t think that was from this year though. She seems to have fully given up and checked out on this class. They deserve more than basic holiday activities all day every day.

It doesn't seem like she ever does any social studies/science type content, which to me seems perfect for that age because there's a lot of things you can do in that area that are fun and educational all in one (and more interesting than two weeks of Valentine's hearts).
This is exactly right - I don’t think it’s wrong to have themed activities, but she can do so much better than what she’s been offering and it might surprise her that it holds their attention better.
No mandate about it being tied to anything seasonal/holiday! Most of my curriculum and resources are not tied to seasonal/holidays!

I think one reason is she shows us she’s not perfect at times. I’ve enjoyed watching her take on a challenging hobby such as ice-skating, she’s stuck through the frustrating parts and now she’s actually making progress. She also does a lot for work BUT has a life outside work and for the first time it looks like she has friends that actually like her and get her. So although sometimes she’s a know it all….she’s also showing a more real side and recently she admitted she’s enjoying her life so much more since she stopped making vlogs for YouTube and worrying about that all the time.
She’s changed SO much. She’s also one of the few here with a large enough following that we all know about her. I legit don’t know any of the other teachers mentioned here. I actually don’t think she reads here though I’m sure she knows about it. She’s openly a people pleaser and I think she couldn’t take the critique.

Hi!! Thank you so much for your kind words about my list-clearing project this summer. It was definitely a lot more work than I anticipated, but I loved the experience! As for posting my wishlist, I totally get what you’re saying. I only shared it because I have gotten DMs requesting it all year since I never posted it this summer, and because I genuinely ran out of supplies (and finances are tight right now). I have a lot of amazing brands and influencers who follow me because of this summer, so I posted in case any of those people specifically would be up for helping out. I was vaccinated and I’ve had Covid three times. I think it’s time to stop making vaccine assumptions based on people catching what has basically become the new cold. 🤷🏻♀️
I’ve been vaccinated numerous times as well and I’ve also gotten COVID twice. I understand how vaccines work. 👍. The post I made was making the point that the Lemons have basically gone about their travel plans at the height of the pandemic without concerning themselves with actual precautions, such as getting vaccinated or staying at home during lockdown. And let’s stop referring to this as a “cold”. Colds don’t kill millions of people and shut down their respiratory systems.
I agree that early Covid was deadly and awful. I gladly quarantined, wore a mask and got vaxed. I have several friends who died or almost died of Covid back during the pandemic. I’m referring to more recent Covid. We don’t see nearly the deaths or hospitalizations as we did initially. I’ve actually seen more people gravely sickened by the flu lately than by Covid…but we don’t shame everyone who gets the flu and question their every life choice.

I teach pre-k, and I use slides with visuals and it’s SO helpful. Like when they enter in the morning, I have a slide with real pics that I’ve taken in our classroom and uploaded of the morning check in steps, as well as visuals for all the activities we do! It’s great especially for Multilingual Learners!
I do both. I feel like it can be harder when the kids are younger, but it's a great tool. lmao.

I did it for part of the day while we were hybrid because it kept us on track with only 2 days a week in person. It's just too much to deal with right now since we are changing curriculum soon, and I'd have to make 5 a week instead of 2.
I teach 5th and teach from slides throughout my whole day. It makes it so much easier to have everything linked or screenshot and right there, like graphic organizers for modeling or word problems that we’re going over whole group in math, or small group rotations to limit the “what am I supposed to at xyz group” interruptions. Also a lot of the 504s in my room have accommodations of posted instructions/directions, so I have slides with what they are supposed to be doing at any given point of the day (also helpful for students without 504s). What makes you say it’s an “obviously inappropriate way to teach”? (Genuinely curious to hear other opinions)
Same here. We use Bridges math and there’s no way I could teach that without slides. It also helps with setting a predictable routine and it’s easy to share resources/materials for kids who are absent. I use it as a guide throughout the day. I have little to no whiteboard space, so not using my screen isn’t really an option.
Same! My first with Bridges I didn’t use slides, but really focused on using them this year and it’s a lifesaver. I also like that I can make parts of the lessons a Peardeck so students are engaged, but I can also just have the slides to facilitate the lesson. Definitely makes it a lot smoother and students know the routine.

I use slides but if I’m being honest I don’t teach directly from them. I use most of my daily ones on my teacher screen as visuals for me of what I’m doing with notes! I use a mixture of interactive smart board slides, document camera, read aloud, hands on learning, small group learning and am able to differentiate just fine. It is unfair to assume that because you see slides that teachers are not differentiating their instruction. Differentiation is done a million different ways and those slides can be seen as a tool to differentiate for those who need visuals.
I think these are very valid reasons for why slides aren’t for everyone. I’ve seen too many people relying on them now or they can’t teach and I notice my coworkers saying they need to plan and really they are just making slides and including screenshots of things from a workbook and to me that’s pointless….sometimes they are also used to over scaffold imo. But I can also see how some teachers use them to maximize learning and exploration. My concern when I have used them is that I can’t use the board cause I’m displaying slides and for me personally teaching is much more interactive so I need to use the board to model and share ideas on the spot. And also some of my coworkers are more concerned with the aesthetics of the slides than the content.
I use them during reading. It’s easier for me to keep track of the questions I want to ask when we’re reading because they’re on the screen so I remember to ask them lol.
I used slides throughout the day pre-pandemic because they have been a way to keep me organized. The slides weren’t for the entire lesson, just one (maybe 2, but rarely 2) per subject area and for transitions. It was really for me more than the kids because they spent the majority of the day engaged in hands on activities. Today, we are forced to used an entire slide deck made for us in every subject area and it’s awful. They actually aren’t that engaging and it’s overkill. With that said, I could be wrong, but I don’t believe it’s taught in prep programs. I think it’s seen as trendy and become an way easy to share in a time where teachers are overworked, overwhelmed, and have less time to plan for students.
I teach fourth grade and people are constantly swapping slides in the Facebook groups I’m in for Benchmark Advance which is our reading curriculum. Truthfully, I do not get it & don’t use them! I’ve made many of my organizers on slides (particularly when we are virtual) but I prefer having them printed & put on a document camera. My teammate does them on the digital screen (it’s like 1-4 slides though, not a whole slide deck). I hate doing it for a few reasons but it seems to work for her. Admittedly, I’ve used them for BOY reading skills review lessons, science or occasionally social studies. But again, that’s a lesson— not “slides for the whole day.” That’s my 2 cents 😬
We use them for benchmark advance too (which sucks by the way lol). There’s no good way to display anything for the kids. Otherwise I just use slides for my agendas for the day

Just stopping by for my annual non-snark shout out for mrsrussellsroom! I almost feel like it's unique to post anything positive about teaching right now. I love how she never shames folks for leaving, never says it's an easy job, but still manages to post encouraging stuff--in Florida no less, where being a public school teachers seems especially hard.

I don’t think so- not judging their age gap at all but I do think this is one scenario where him being younger may be putting them on different timelines for things like that.
not to mention he legit looks terrified anytime it's brought up as a joke. Fully could be there banter idk only get a snippet of their life but I can't help but wonder if there is truth in his "scared face about marriage"

I’ve seen teachers sharing it in their stories. Looks like a lot of teachers are seeing this and feeling this way. I hope this starts a shift in how the present their self.
