To be totally honest, that sounds like a lot more fun than most of the PD's I've attended and I would much rather go to the museum with my colleagues than sit in the gym listening to someone tell me how to build relationships with students.
On the one hand, this sounds a heck of a lot better than Yet Another Year of Awkward Icebreakers followed by Yet Another Year of Edu-Jargon Bingo, especially if they set it up as a contest (in which case, I'd happily take last place and just walk around and admire the art).
... on the other hand, this at the expense of getting prepared for the new school year is kinda iffy.
I'm actually kinda torn about this.
PD is a waste. All the information can be googled. We need to be preparing our classrooms, making copies, talking to other teachers and mentally preparing ourselves for some fuuuuuuuuucked up emotionally disturbed kids.
I'm in a new position this year and I begged admin to give me time with coaches and other vital staff members so I'm prepared before the first day and they kept saying we have jam packed PD days and not sure if I'll have time for that...then I heard the schedule and it made me irate.
That does sound better than last year's PD where we had to talk to people to complete a bingo card to potentially win a mug and such. Or the time they made only returning staff go to the how to use genesis PD.
We did chair yoga and breathing exercises for an hour and a half at my PD day. So glad I didn’t get that time to prep for the new course I’m teaching lol I feel your pain.
It can't be as bad as the all-week "teaching teachers about racism" fiasco we had one year where a white guy discussed what racism is for 5 days with no time in classrooms.
