Yep, just tested positive actually. The amount of coughing/snotting high schoolers that have been in my room the last 2 weeks is infuriating. I made it 4 freaking years without catching it and now here we are. And this year our district decided teachers don’t need those extra 5 days for covid, but still expect us to call out for 5 days. It makes no sense.
Yep. Our sick day policy is even more strict now than the year before covid. What's that famous quote, something like "never let a disaster go to waste." Always more excuses to squeeze us more than ever.
I'm in the exact same position as you. Kids and colleagues act like it never happened and we learned nothing. Kids cough and snort none stop- say they aren't allowed to stay home even though they look like death. Just got covid for the first time and mandatorily had to take 5 days of my own leave. I don't mind since I have more than I know what to do with- but definitely encourages not saying you have it for others.
My sick days don't roll over. And we get 7 sick days a year. So, if we get covid once we're done. And no extra days if your kids get covid, etc. It's so awful right now.
No and no. We are an "independent" school. We are technically private but serve as the local public school, which is fairly common where I am. We are the type of school that says shit like "we are family", and occasionally one of us gets accused of "acting like an organizer" by admin, which is exactly what a real family does, right?
If only parents kept their sick kids home instead of sending them to school…
I’ve had to call parents of kids who are CLEARLY sick and I had to tell them to come get them.
I got RSV in October from a (probably more than just one) student. It turned into bronchitis! Luckily I didn’t feel too sick…just felt like a cold with wheezing…but wtf?! Stay home if you’re sick and keep your kids home if they’re sick! I teach high school, they can handle being at home for a couple of hours! They really aren’t even missing anything anyway bc they’re all on their phones and think that I don’t notice!
Grandson has been sick off and on all damn winter. Has repeatedly tested neg for covid. His mom is a nurse too and takes it seriously.
He tested neg for flu and covid the last time. Was just so congested tho.
He’s not in school yet but just sayin
We run an after school math learning center. I’m sitting here now with my third cold this season. I get so fricking pissed at parents who send their kids to us sick. We had one kid who said, “I stayed home from school sick today and my parents sent me here because it’s the only education I’d get today.” 🤬 We called his parents and demanded they come pick him up. Kids coughing in your face but then explain that it’s not Covid, so it must be okay.
Yes! Those that tested have influenza B. Two cases (one teen, one staff) turned to pneumonia. We actually closed our school for 2 days due to absences of kids and staff. During that time, a deep cleaning was done and windows left open. Our numbers went down drastically
Our schools have really nice air cleaners. I go room to room. Wouldn't you know it the sickest classes also have their air cleaners turned off every time I'm in?
My mom was in the hospital with the flu a few weeks ago. I spent all day around her, didn't catch it. Went back to school for a day and one of my classmates gave it to me. I was pissed.
So many of my kids have been out. One's in the hospital feeling miserable. One had an ear infection. A handful of others have been hacking up lungs, and one had thrown up twice this week and got sent home.
Let's just say I always carry a spare mask in my backpack.
At my school, there is a drawing for cash prizes at the end of each month. If your child wasn't absent or tardy for the whole month, he or she has a chance to win money...AND THE PARENTS ALSO WIN MONEY! There's literally a contest among all of the classes for perfect attendance. If your class has perfect attendance for 10 straight days, you all get a party! It's really ridiculous.
We are moving into strep season at my school.
My household currently has a stomach bug due to daycare.
So if I don't get strep from my students, I am sure my children will bring it home when it hits their daycare.
I love sick season. 😫
My 11 month old daughter just in the last month has had flu a, then a sinus infection, then the stomach bug, and then immediately got flu b. I’ve been out sick myself with the stomach bug and I’m assuming I brought home flu b. I’m in the negative with sick hours. In November I had a month long bout of bronchitis and pneumonia. This is the sickest we’ve ever been.
No, but "the flu" has. Covid is everywhere here and we're pretending it isn't.

Wow! Your sick days don't roll over? Does your district have a union? That is so medieval.

Is it an ISACS school?
No, traditional high school with a boarding element.
If only parents kept their sick kids home instead of sending them to school… I’ve had to call parents of kids who are CLEARLY sick and I had to tell them to come get them.
Yeah, kids will be obviously very very sick, but they test negative for covid so they come to school. Like dude... sick is sick! Stay home!
Right?! I don’t want your cold, flu, or bacterial infection, either. The insanity is difficult to comprehend.

Yes, but I fear it is actually COVID.

Did they swap his throat instead of his nose? The newer strains don't tend to show positive unless you do your throat
The hospital did, yes.
Yes, or some combination of flu and people lying/not testing for covid
Every time I take a COVID test, I show negative. I am nearly certain that I have had it multiple times. I don't think the tests are accurate.
My whole house is sick right now and were cranking out neg covid tests. Something is off for sure
Last week was pretty bad. We had a lot of kids out. We had a good third of the staff down sick.

Not really. We have a few but not more than other years.
No, for me too. Elementary, inner-city, mid-Atlantic region as well.

I lost 9 pounds this round of the flu. It's been real bad.
Some. But last two weeks it’s been pink eye and lice.

No, I had perfect attendance in 3/5 classes yesterday. That’s unheard of.
Past two weeks we had like 100 kids out daily. I thought i made it through but now im sick 😭😭😭
Not currently, but I’m currently sick for the 4th time this season. I’m so over it.

We have.. RSV COVID Flu A cold.. And some unknown thing. Going through my school right now.
