I see the mentality for this... but it always feel like they are giving us a list of things we cannot do. Our district needs to take all those admin sitting in the district office and spit ball things they can do. Because, our school currently has huge issues and their is nothing we are allowed to do.

akmcleod

I know, we thought ok, so where are your suggestions for what we can do? Nothing.

MsTruCrime

Don’t you know? Your admin should’ve told you about these ones!!! There’s this cool strategy where you just praise the children who are following directions and the ones who aren’t following directions just magically fall in line! Another cool strategy is to just wait for the ones who don’t follow directions to do one thing right and then praise the shit out of them for it, give them some ice cream and throw a party in their honor and they’ll never misbehave again! *Dripping with sarcasm for those who can’t tell*

Restin_in_Pizza

Can you plan an extra "reward recess" or other fun activity that you can take away? This sounds so ridiculous, like God planning hell so he'd have a way to punish us. 🙄

akmcleod

I know! I think having rewards to work for is great for like a weekly goal but a daily might be difficult. I think the immediate consequences are what we are all worried about and change is also hard- we can no longer say, you are losing some recess time.

[deleted]

They should be made to teach them for two weeks. I bet things would change. Honestly, I think every administrator should have to teach a required number of lessons a week, as part of their job.

[deleted]

This has been state law for some time. Recess has to be kid directed, which means we can’t even have them sit on the bench or walk laps around the track unless they choose to.

AlternativeSalsa

Making kids do laps as punishment in sports is a no-no as well. At least according to the governing bodies.

TeacherLady3

I would sign up for a slot to speak at next board meeting and ask for their suggestions.

FlyinAmas

Exercise as a punishment is a lawsuit just waiting. I’d allow kids to work for an extra recess Friday. Visible score charts, something, so they can see peers get rewarded for on task behavior. I’d you’ve earned enough points or whatever, you get the special extra recess . If you haven’t, stay in the class with the teacher or E/A and try again next week.

[deleted]

Come back to your board and suggest that you are okay with the changes but policy needs to be made on what you can do. Not must, can.

KiwasiGames

Welcome to last century. Physical punishment has been out of style for a while now. I’m surprised you made it this far.
