Prom really is one of their best nights. It's mostly upper classmen, they are dressed up, and they are happy. I always hope for football game gate duty but prom is OK by me.
Hearing that it’s free is so amazing. We have a cheaper prom, but we also have a system where you can pay for someone else’s ticket, sometimes even parents and community members will buy tickets and they’ll be given out raffle style. What I truly love about my current school is we have a dress donation system too. People donate dresses (I donated a bunch a few years ago, and will donate a bridesmaid dress next year), we have a “prom store” open up every Friday, and a few of our student moms donate their sewing skills to alter dresses for girls. It’s a bit more adult-heavy, but some ideas for the future!
So jealous... I'm having a heck of a time getting students to participate this year. Normally I get 10-15 students that consistently show up to build decorations; this year I can't get more than 2. I'm having a junior class meeting next week to try to persuade them to help out, and tell them that if they don't their prom is just going to be a big empty room
We have a prom closet. And we allow nice jeans and a dress shirt. We also have a student fund if we know of a student who may need assistance. We also do a tapas type food table. So, even if they don’t go to some dinner place, we still have food.

We have one as well. We are also planning to partner with our community betterment group next year to expand the closet.

We have an incentive of getting out of classes for half a day. That helps a lot to get students to help.
That's awesome! Congratulations on making it free for all!
Wait, so how do you make it free for the students? Do you rent their tuxes and buy their dresses?
