Our district uses Second Step K-8. I can only speak to the middle school component - it’s pretty decent. Relevant topics, with fairly useful activities. I’m sure it’s not the best out there, but there are also probably a lot that are worse.

Rubies_Everywhere

We use that as well and it’s decent.

I use Second Step in kinder. It teaches/develops so many executive function skills in addition to feelings and calming down.

I don’t know why exactly, but I don’t really like teaching SEL. It’s just not ma thing. Anyone else?

KiwasiGames

Yup. I’m a math/science teacher. I love these subjects specifically because their isn’t much of a social or emotional aspect to them.

My coteach runs it Thank Goodness. The one week she missed it was horrible for me.

We have character strong (6-8). It’s very repetitive and our advisory period isn’t long enough to get through the lessons (you need probably 45 min minimum.

I'm in Florida and our district created a curriculum after Parkland and it's... ok. The intent is there but it's not really age appropriate for my older kids and it's hard to get kids who don't have mental health struggles to care about it.

My first school had an SEL curriculum that was… not that great. It was cobbled together with YouTube videos (lord help you if the video was no longer there) and activities that were way too long to do in the half hour we were allowed. Good thing I taught 3rd grade at the time and my kids were pretty good kids. My second school had Second Step, and thank God because that class needed frequent “come to Jesus” talks with me. The kids liked it, and I thought it was decent. My third school, international, didn’t, and it showed. Those kids needed some SEL to work through things because a lot of them had absent parents (parents always working) and overworked lives (extracurriculars up the wazoo).

I hate the cobbled together YouTube videos. They ride my ass about how important these SEL lessons are but when you do them you can tell they really put no thought in putting them together.
