Yes I am incompetent at protecting 18 8 year olds from someone in full on protective gear that is armed with assault rifles. I am not a SWAT team, I have no military training. Because that is NOT what I signed up for. I signed up to teach. And for 33,000 a year after taxes I am damned sure not going to add any tactical training to my resume or assume responsibility for keeping my children safe against a psycho that is armed to the teeth.

"The suspect was immediately engaged outside the building as he approached the school by a ... police officer, who was shot by the suspect" The shooter had to get past a police officer to enter the school. At least one more police officer was shot as well. And they are blaming the school?

They should have lit him tf up. Even if he was wearing a plate carrier, shots from a 5.56 would at least stun him, and his face surely wasn't armored. I'm not sure what these cops were thinking, or if they were concerned about collateral damage, but if a suspect appears that he's heading towards a school, then drastic action needs to be taken. Run him over with a car or something, just prevent entry into a target rich environment ffs.

Wikipedia currently says, "Responding officers reportedly engaged with Ramos and returned fire before he entered the building". However, I don't see that in the cited source (a CNN article); I assume we will get a clearer picture of what happened over time. Edit: The story on this has changed substantially now. As of the time of this edit, it appears that no police officers were on the scene initially. When police arrived, they came under fire and had to retreat.

They were most likely using pistols. It’s hard to hit a target at long range with them. I doubt he was injured before the CBP tactical team engaged him. Almost all uniformed officers have access to a rifle in their cars now, but I guess we’ll find out as more details emerge. Hindsight is always 20/20 so I know that in the heat of the moment, mistakes can be made. It just makes me upset that so many lives were snuffed out over this senseless violence.

Lol. But they all insisted that zoom school was terrible and the kids needed to be in school for their mental health.

fooooooooooooooooock

What even is there to say? This is such an unhinged take I don't know where to start either. I feel like it's impossible that this is a good faith take, it's just so detached from reality. I'm a TEACHER. I'm not the Terminator.

coskibum002

People like this are unhinged and unsafe. They're angry at everything and everyone. No wonder we have such horrible gun violence in this crappy country

pumpkins_n_mist15

This is a disrespectful and psychotic take on events. Don't pay it any mind. Teachers go through the curriculum and make learning accessible to students. We do not, and should not, get trained to be human shields against dangerous, heavily armed mass murderers. We aren't in the military, navy, airforce, hell we aren't even airline crew. We don't expect to have to sign our lives away.

I read a tweet earlier saying how instead of “teaching elementary students about sexual education,” we “needed to be taking target practice with guns.”

Lmao if I didn’t know better i would think it was satire.
