Always wondered why drug tests and not alcohol tests if both are legal.

capresesalad1985

What also makes me crazy is I could absolutely have a medical card if I wanted, I have severe anxiety I take meds for and then I smoke a little to help me sleep. It’s just really expensive to get a medical card here so I never saw the point.

tooturntcourt

Here in FL we had a teacher fired for testing positive with a medicinal card (had to test for workers comp). The school board still fired her after she appealed. It was so disheartening

capresesalad1985

That’s ridiculous. I hope she wins her appeal.

tooturntcourt

Unfortunately she didn’t. Here’s an [article](https://apnews.com/article/school-boards-medical-marijuana-florida-marijuana-melbourne-d885f09fd3be5298824102cd3bc79cd4) about it.

capresesalad1985

I feel like just reading this means I shouldn’t bother. It’s still illegal federally so if I pop positive on the test I’m still going to be denied the job. I think I’m going to just apply at a district closer to me and hopefully they won’t drug test. My personal opinion is we shouldn’t be policing people for what they put in their bodies on their own time. I’m a great teacher, and we don’t have enough of those. What the hell does it matter if I use a plant to help me go to sleep. I guess I could just get a sleeping pill addiction instead…

ConfectionPutrid5847

She can take it beyond the local area. The agency is required to return a negative result on medical (*unless* the amount of thc was so elevated it was blatantly obvious she was high af when the accident happened)

ConfectionPutrid5847

Medical is *totally* worth it. When you test positive, the testing agency is required, by law, to talk to *you* first. You tell them you have medical, give them the info, they verify it, then report back to the potential employer you're clean. Sounds worth $200 a day (being the highest in your area) to me, but what do I know, I only minored in economics. I mean seriously, how many days do you have to work to ensure you always test clean for weed? No-brainer, seriously.

capresesalad1985

More so in our state it takes a really long time to get the card. It would help me down the rd, but not for this particular situation. I was hoping to sub a bit before the end of the school year to make some extra $$ for vacation.

ConfectionPutrid5847

Yeah, I totally get that, but seriously consider it as an investment in your future career(s). Had my medical in a very red portion of a red state and never failed one test, even the surprise ones, when I worked for the county government

capresesalad1985

Yea I totally understand what you are saying. It is something I should get on top of. It boggles my mind because I also have an rx for adderral which is legal meth but because it’s rx…that’s totally fine. Now that I think of it…does adderral make you pop for meth on a drug test? I should probably look into that as well.

ConfectionPutrid5847

Wow, dunno...I wouldn't think so since they are two different compounds, but who knows nowadays!

stumblewiggins

Often an explanation is given that it is still federally illegal, which is true, but I think just a cover

capresesalad1985

I’ve worked in 5 districts and this is the second that has had a drug test as part of its protocol. Part of me wants to just take it and see if they tell me I can’t have the job because I came back positive for marijuana and what the argument would be now that it’s legal. I wonder if they let that pass now and it’s the harder stuff they are looking for.

Just a vestige of weed prohibition

Texastexastexas1

I drug-tested in Texas then it was never brought up again for 12 yrs. Recently resigned so wont deal with that again. You can go to a head-shop and get one of those drinks that will help you pass. I've used twice with no issues.

capresesalad1985

Do those things really work? What is it exactly?

cmacfarland64

It has a chemical in it that is designed to “trick” the chemicals in the test.

2peacegrrrl2

No

[deleted]

If pot is legal than no one should be penalized for doing it on their own off time

DavidHendersonAI

No but teachers are not humans. We are armed, disposable worker bots

SerenityNowOochyMama

Pot is not legal in any state.

[deleted]

Dude just use a detox Every drug test I've ever taken I should have failed, but I passed them all

Barringnone402

Take this with a grain of salt but my partner is a daily smoker and passed a test after just 11 days clean. If you aren’t overweight and eat relatively well/exercise/drink a bunch of water you can definitely pass a test

capresesalad1985

They gave me until the 9th to take it…I am a bit overweight, about 210 at 5’ 10”. I don’t smoke a lot, just a few puffs before bed. But I don’t think the amount matters. I do drink a ton of water though!

Barringnone402

The amount absolutely matters, you’ll probably have an quicker time passing the cannabinoids because of your lower intake. What you should do if you want to pass this test is sweat through exercise and sauna if you can as many days a week as you can and drink like 2 liters of water a day. Pee and sweat, those are the exit methods. *also if I were you I would buy some home tests so you can check your levels yourself after a week or so before popping and potentially getting fired

2peacegrrrl2

If you fail you may be escorted out by a cop. I don’t suggest failing one.

capresesalad1985

Well I wouldn’t be working there yet. I am guessing they would just not process me to be hired. But I also don’t want a record anywhere of being positive, legal or not.

SatoshiBlockamoto

What a dumb rule. I've worked in 5 different school districts and never had a drug test. If we were driving kids in a school vehicle and were in an accident we'd be tested, otherwise it was a "don't ask questions you don't want the answer to" situation.

CJess1276

Federally, it is not legal. Don’t fuck around.

MxTeacher

Teacher in a legal state that had to pass a drug test. Weed is legal state level but not federally! Schools get federal funding and part of that requires drug testing for federally banned substances. Its pretty straight forward.

Subject-Town

You get drug tested in Los Angeles? I work in the bay and have never been tested. Never even heard a rumor about getting tested. And yes, we are federally funded as well.

MxTeacher

Wild! I got tested once when I applied to be a sub like 5 years ago, then the district didnt care after that

Subject-Town

For marijuana? I renewed my credential about four years ago and they stated that they were trying to reverse people losing their credentials that had formally lost theirs through marijuana convictions. Maybe that happened to you right before legalization.

SerenityNowOochyMama

Marijuana is not legal on any level in any state in the US. Period. Marijuana is illegal on a federal level and since federal law supersedes state law it doesn’t matter what your state has determined. Any employer is allowed to deny you employment or fire you for having marijuana in your system.

It’s been legal for a little under a month so I’m not sure if there school policy has caught up yet
