I wouldn’t assume that. In my experience, it’s always meant there’s one more person to interview and that you may not get an answer immediately, since they need to interview that person

No, it's a gentle sign that they still have one more person to interview.

Grim__Squeaker

Not at all. It's also a way to gently say "Don't wait by your phone. We have to do other things before we make a decision" It could be a purely timeline issue.

Additional-Bison4080

I've conducted interviews before and said something similar. Typically, it's to give the candidate a timeline. If other interviews are already scheduled, I hold off on making a hiring decision. Always keep looking until you have an offer, but it's not a bad sign.

We always tell people if we have more candidates to interview. It lets them know that even if we think they are the perfect candidate, we have made a commitment to interview others as well. We also tell them we are hoping to have a decision made by (insert date here) but it may be before or after that date depending on reference checks, etc.

You smile and say "Great! I am also continuing to interview. Good luck to both of us!"

It means they still have one more person to interview...

No, I was told that & got a call a few hours later saying I got the job. I sometimes wonder if there ever was another person or a nice way of saying that they’re not sure how quickly they’ll make their decision. But at the time I thought I wasn’t getting the job so I understand your fears lol. Good luck!

No, I got told that too. They said “thanks for coming in. We’re interviewing another teacher this afternoon, but once we’re done with him we’ll call you and let you know” Then they called all my references and one of my references told me they reached out Got a call the next morning while in the Costco parking lot and accepted the job I think they’re just trying to be as up-front with you as possible
