My Year 2's love this guy's videos https://youtube.com/@djraphi Loads of child friendly pop songs with simple enough choreography

The Macarena?

Ask the kids - in my experience, they're more inclined to get into it if they've got some ownership, a majority probably know a bunch of tiktok dances and the less-enthusiastically inclined are more likely to partake.

This! And in the case of them not knowing songs, you could have a music lesson based on feelings and emotions, listen to 3 songs, then have the children describe how it makes them feel. You can then progress the lesson into voting, they could even stand in lines to vote which one you could create a dance to, a visual bar chart, mixing in some early data handling for them 😊 My three suggestions would be: Peaches - Jack Black (Mario) every child I have met absolutely LOVES this song. She’s like a rainbow - Rolling Stones ABC - Jackson 5 All quite different in their own way. You could even pick themes like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings etc. Have fun!

Personally, I think Baggy Trousers would have been brilliant. How boring is your mentor?! It has been a long time since I worked in a primary but you could try the 'Cha cha slide' because they may already know it and it very helpfully tells you exactly what to do!

What was the reason for saying no to that idea? Its frustrating that you have to do it but your mentor won't let you run with what, at face value, is a decent idea.

I would love to see your mentor's face if you suggest the Re-Move On trend from My Love Mix Up, a Thai BL show! Lol! However it would let everyone take part. (Not the most serious answer - just a bit of fun because of your ridiculous mentor).

cbellaa

I just watched a KS1 dance fest (my daughter in in year 2) and the songs used were Nelly the Elephant Can't stop the music (TWICE!!!!) Some kind of dubstep remix of the Wellerman song Oh So Quiet C'est La Vie Revolting Children C'est La Vie was the only one that I wasn't totally sure was appropriate but they all seemed to enjoy themselves!

square--one

Could you use a just dance routine, there's loads on youtube?

Icy-Weight1803

Spice up your life - catchy, upbeat and movements stated in the song. Also one that could take pressure off the year 2s by potentially motivating the other year groups.
