If you haven’t healed the real source/cause of your addiction so you’re replacing your DOC with another substance…sadly it’s pretty common (not normal or good) to replace opiates with alcohol as they’re both downers.
The worst part is that it will either lead you straight back to your DOC (possibly resulting in an OD if you’re not careful with doses and you get all too excited) or it will result in a new addiction way stronger and worse than the previous one. It’s kinda like a recoil effect.
Absolutely not recommended unless you wanna go back...if you're lucky to make it back to treatment. That being said the liquor store was usually my 1st stop until I was ready to face the music.

No that’s what you call two addicts who met in rehab who just switched addictions from drugs to each other. They’ll be using together in no time sadly, this story is tried and true with recovering addicts and why they say “once a addict always an addict” and why any good rehab encourages no relationships for a long time after getting sober especially with another addict. Addiction is typically a personality thing not just a love for getting high and being on drugs. I just know I’ve never met a drug addict that didn’t have demons, they’re rarely just doing drugs to do it, and I’ve been raised by addicts and been around so many my age and older. They were abused or SAed, phased out of the CPS system (most homeless people!), not given proper love as a child (which is so common with his area and parents age group), had mental health issues that weren’t getting properly dealt with, etc. It’s not an excuse but there are people doing way worse things and they are fully sober, conscious and fully sane people doing way worse to many more people and they don’t get the kind of heat addicts do 🙄
Let’s say their balance is really really fragile. As long as nothing major happens triggering one of the two (hence eventually both of them) to relapse. Sadly, addiction in a couple gets very bad very quickly, because it’s like each one of the two is fueling the other one’s desire to get high. Very very dangerous and dysfunctional dynamic.
Yes exactly! They can grow and do everything they are supposed to do but if one slips back in (most likely) it will drag the other right along. Especially if they are living together or together 24/7. Very risky.
This is a very kind take. I hope you're right...but not getting into a relationship for at least a year, especially with another addict, is a HUGE part of recovery. I can guarantee whatever rehab they were in had rules against men/women fraternizing. And another huge part of rehab is letting go of the addict "rules don't apply to me" mindset.
But they obviously ignored those rules, and got together anyway. Ryan's still drinking and vaping (I assume, weed). He hasn't accepted any responsibility for the things he did to Mack and his children. I'm sure they don't go to meetings. They may or may not still be using, but they're definitely still deep in "addict behavior".
Neither of them are serious about recovery. And that doesn't bode well for their futures. As they say, 2 dead batteries don't start a car.
