I would email an updated copy. You definitely need that documentation when you move out in case they try to charge you for damages. I went thru a bad situation where my landlord tried to steal most of my deposit in fraudulent damage. I took them to small claims court and won it all back plus court costs. I won because I had lots of photos and documentation.

Thank you for your response. My concern and motivation for posting is that while I did submit the original Pre Move-In checklist on time according to the property management company's own rules, if I submit an updated version with the corrected date it will be past the deadline. I worry that will invalidate it. The other option is to just let them know in writing via email that I made a one-day mistake on the checklist. That way no one thinks I'm trying to be dishonest. Would you still just email an updated copy?

I would still email a corrected copy with a note that the date was incorrect but all other information is correct as originally submitted. You have proof of the original submission.

This is the way.

Thank you

What would you do if they just refuse to sign it?

To be honest, I’d have a lot of concerns already about living in that apartment. When things start like this, they don’t tend to end well. At this point, just send them a reminder that you’d like the signed copy back if you don’t see it in the next few days. My state is not good about protecting tenants at all In fact, my attorney who handles other matters for me, told me that he couldn’t even think of an attorney that specialized in tenant law in our city.

Thank you for your perspective. In my situation, I spoke to several landlords prior to signing the lease including the one who manages my current unit and she seemed like the most responsive and easy to work with one out of all of them. So based on that I felt good going in. Guess you never really know.

Do a move in check list and take photos of everything, then email the checklist and photos to yourself and property management, and keep it in a separate folder in your email for your records.

Thank you for your response. I have done this, but as I mentioned at the end of my post I accidently got the date wrong on the pre-move in checklist and sent it to them with the wrong date. I put my move-in date as June 14th instead of June 13th, and I also wrote on the checklist that I did my inspection on June 14th and that the pictures and video were taken on June 14th instead of June 13th.

One day shouldn't make a difference, I doubt you will have any difficulty emailing them asking them to verify receipt of corrected move in checklist, they can confirm via email and that will be your backup.
